"We are wasting our time on this foolishness!" the dark elf shouted. "Forget your pathetic dreams and let me show you the path."

The bulky man sitting at the desk ignored the elf hiding in the deep shadows of the cellar. His attention was focused upon an ancient scroll laid upon the desk. Faint golden light flowed from his fingers as he mumbled a spell. The light spread across the parchment in waves, causing the writing to ripple.

"There are other ways to our goals," the dark elf whispered again. "The Heptagon does not exist; you are being a fool."

Rage gripped the man, tearing him from his seat and the scroll. Two large strides brought him to the dark elf. With a powerful backhand blow, the dark elf was thrown violently against the wall. As the elf slumped to the ground the man bellowed, "You dare insult me!? I am your god and your king; and as soon as I recover the other six Heptagions, I shall be the god and king of all."

As quickly as it flared, the anger vanished. "You must trust me, old friend," the man said, warmly offering a hand. He helped the dark elf to his feet and turned his back on the elf. Any other man would have died twice, once for striking the dark elf, and again for turning his back on such a dangerous creature.

The dark elf did not strike; could not strike.

"You wish to kill me, do you not?"

The dark elf remained quiet.

"Of course you do, and yet you are helpless against me." The man concluded calmly. "Do you know why that is?"

A square chest sat in an alcove to one side of the cellar. The man approached and lifted the lid; soft orange light cast stark shadows across the room. "How can you look upon the beauty and power of the Second Heptagion and not believe?" The man asked, in awe of the single item in the box. "How can you feel its power and not understand?"

"No matter!" The man blurted out, before the elf had a chance to respond. "You need neither understanding nor belief to obey." He returned to the table and found, to his delight, the parchment had changed, revealing a map in red ink, or blood, and a number of notations to find the Sixth Heptagion.

The man cast another spell to copy the map to a blank parchment and handed the new scroll to the dark elf. "You will find the next one here, Braynas. Do not fail me and do not draw attention." The man's mood changed from elated to menacing faster than Braynas could track.

The elf took the map and departed. The man returned to his research. He would gather all seven Heptagions and force the world to bow...

Hopefully this brief intro intrigued you. I am very excited for this campaign. The campaign is set in the Forgotten Realms, but very loosely. The setting primarily informs the state of magic, gods, races, etc. But I don't know or care what kingdom is next to who or what the political climates are or the history of that region. So consider this game to be set in a land distant from any region covered by any of the books.

Gameplay will take place in the Kingdom of Sophaddalia. A map of the region can be found here.
