Game Description

Welcome to Midara, a homebrew setting of my own design. A setting of high fantasy that borders on science fiction, where magic is a part of daily life for almost all inhabitants, and those who cannot at least cast minor spells are considered handicapped. Even the beasts of the forest have power to call their own, and wise farmers keep an eye on their stock, lest the magic so painstakingly bred out of their animals returns.

Those capable of using powerful magic, on the other hand, are precious and rare, destined for greatness.

It is a world that knows precious little peace, as magical beings claim the mantle of gods, and lead there followers to war until they're too broken to continue, only for other forces to swoop in to claim the remnants. Civilization, such as it is, exists in small pockets held together only by strength of arms and potency of magic.

This is going to be a violent game with dark storytelling that focuses on complex character dynamics internally and a world in turmoil externally. Also... challenging fights every step of the way. It's a gritty world, and your characters will be introduced to all kinds of unpleasantness in their quest to survive and find a way to strike back.

The main villains are... yeah... they're as terrifying and just about as irredeemably evil as it's going to get. One of the major villains is a sapient rat swarm that will kill, rape and eat your characters. If you're lucky, it will be in that order. More likely the opposite. If you're not able to handle that kind of setting, then be adult enough to admit it and walk away now.

The fights will be challenging, and different enough from standard D&D monsters that having a categorical knowledge of all monster weaknesses will likely work against you. Some enemies (bosses, generally) will require extensive research to learn their vulnerabilities. Plus pretty much everything down to the random encounters have spellcasting options.
