Camp Stoneroot
It is not uncommon for the Dean of the Journeysoul Academy to appear before his senior class. And less common for him to visit with his students as they toiled afar during their outdoor internships. Yet, on occasion, he would take leave and wander away from the halls of the learned to see how his young adventurers were holding up to their tasks in the field.
He enjoyed the outdoors more than he admitted and found the opportunity to see Camp Stoneroot during the bug hunting season, very refreshing. It also gave him a good reason to practice his teleport spell, and he agreed with himself that he would only show up the night before camp broke so that he not disturb the syllabus. Plus, he admitted, listening to their own accomplishments certainly made the old Dean feel much better about letting his students go.
Before leaving the camp, he always presented himself anonymously to students as they enjoyed their final evening campfire of the internship, and he listened as they embellished tales of bug slaying or talked about school life in general. For that reason alone, he made sure he was in disguise, ensuring he received the full force of his student's critique. He chuckled as he listened, realizing that no matter how old he was, he was always learning something.
On this night, he told the students a tale of a handful of students that dared go into Stoneroot Cavern, not too far from here...just over to the North there and up that carved stone stair. There is a rotted tree branch that juts out from an old ruined tower that points to the exact location of the cliff entrance. They sure angered the Dean when they did not return as scheduled... He smiles as he tells them.
And sure enough, at the following final morning roll call at camp Stoneroot, five or so students fail to sound off....
