Desperate Pilgrimage is a heavily house-ruled D&D 3.5 campaign. You'll find no aquatic halflings here; it's a world of humans, where elves, dwarves, gnomes and goblins are mysterious legendary beings and often disregarded by scholars as fairy tales. Guns haven't totally outmoded swords, yet, but they've replaced the bow and arrow. Chivalry isn't dead, but nobody wears clunky armor anymore. The first coal-fueled engines have just come into existence, and progress in the field of manufacturing has revolutionized the way society produces anything.
It's a world of industry, exploration and intrigue. Or, it was. Civilization has collapsed in the face of the biggest disaster in recorded history, and for all we know, the entire future of humanity rests in a single steamboat.
