The Soul Reavers
This is a game idea about a slightly futuristic modern world where groups of heavily armed and armored forces called Soul Reavers hunt down and kill the Undying Horde. The year is 2150, but the world has not learned to get along yet, still preferring to point out the borders of their countries. Governments are still ruled with a militaristic bent, and fighting for your country has never been more popular. Science has come a long way, with decent robotics, big nasty guns, and sweet ass tanks. We've even begun a small colony on the moon, now called Maria City One.
Then one day the Earth passed through the orbit of some passing comets, carrying with them dangerous and unidentifiable radiation. Many of the asteroids burnt up in the atmosphere, but several cities were decimated and dust was spread into the air for three weeks. In the wake of the seemingly mundane event was something unrealistic to most humans.
The dead stopped dying.
For reasons unknown by any, normally fatal wounds do not stop the functions of the body. A strange disease seems to put the body into chemical overdrive to be able to ignore such things, but the strain of this makes everyone inflicted with it become insane and often become obsessed with violence. It is only a matter of time and the degree of wounds that determine when a person finally snaps. After this point the body undergoes a mutation, slight at first, but as the days pass more of these mutations occur until the outside matches the inside. Many of these monstrosities are as big as buildings.
The media reports it as the Undying Horde, as the numbers increase exponentially, with the threat of becoming a world-wide plague imminent. The governments of the world responded to this as early as they could, forming teams of professionally trained and deadly soldiers called Soul Reavers. These teams would be sent to wherever the Undying Horde could be found, fighting them with extreme indiscretion. The leaders of the world believe that removal of the asteroids can help stem the tide of the Horde, giving the Soul Reavers a real chance against them. However, removing them is the Reavers' job too.
