War. War never changes. Long after the nuclear holocaust, when the last echoes of the old civilizations ceased to reverberate and the great Vaults opened their doors, humanity came face to face with its mortality. With all they had ever known gone, and facing extinction, humanity did what it did best: adapt.
As they had done countless millennia before, they formed small communities centered around agriculture and trade. Over time, these communities joined together in loose alliances, with the aim of surviving the harsh realities of the Wastes: raiders, wildlife, and worst of all, the mutants.
The greatest of these was the New California Republic. What started as the small village of Shady Sands would blossom into a beacon of civilization, incorporating The Hub, New Reno, San Francisco and other settlements. They defeated mutant threats, turned back invading hordes, and brought peace to the Wasteland, a feat thought impossible. Humanity had survived. Or so they thought.
In time, humanity's oldest enemy resurfaced: itself. Power grabs, political intrigue, and open warfare have decimated the NCR. The peace it had worked so hard to forge for its citizens is a thing of the past, as are so many other human achievements. Humanity is at a crossroads. Will it continue to survive, or has it reached the end?
