Wilderlands of Eldritch Fantasy
In the land of 1000 Gods, between the metropoli of human kingdoms and the hidden fastnesses of reclusive elder races, lie the ruins, ancient underground labyrinths, and monstrous lairs on which a man's fortune and fame might be found. Most who venture these lands perish in unspeakable ways. The fistful who don't generally retire crippled and maimed in corpus and mind. But those few who succeed become like kings, and that promise alone fills the head of many a would-be adventurer.
This is meant to be a three-month experiment in whether constructing a more collaborative and improvisational style of running a campaign will allow me to run a game inside of my work schedule. I know you all also have busy lives. If this succeeds, we'll continue on beyond the three month period.
The setting we'll be using is the Necromancer version of Judges Guild's Wilderlands of High Fantasy, made a bit wyrder. The core system will be Adventurer Conqueror King System (ACKS), an advanced and customized retroclone of B/E/C/M/I, and ACKS Companion. I'll also be drawing on Lamentations of the Flame Princess and some of its supplements, Beyond the Wall and Other Adventures, and Mythic Roleplaying and its Game Master Emulator. I also intend to cobble together some domain play rules from ACKS; Domains at War; An Echo, Resounding; and Reign.
This is old-school D&D. It's hard-nosed and brutal. These won't be characters with pages of back-history, because there's no guarantee they're going to live through the week. We'll instead be building the stories forward, in the antics and exploits you get these unfortunate, misguided, greedy fools into.
