The word is excitement, the word is enhancement, the word is fear. For word spreads of a strange force from the south - and far away across the great Sahara in Afrika. Ghana has discovered a force - magic.

Fewer cities are more deserving the title of of City of Civilizations than Constantinople - 8th Century Constantinople will be the inspiration for our setting - however, this is an alternate reality. While many things are at first glance familiar - the differences are sudden and massive.

With the discovery and widespread use of magic Constantinople was naturally among the first of cities to utilize this new phenomenon. And here, nearly two decades after the discovery - all manner of fantastic and fearsome creatures roam the wilds of the Earth.

This is a world at war with itself. A world gripped by fear. A world where man and elf do not keep company. Welcome to the Magocratic Dystopia of the 8th Century.

A world where you the hero - are set apart. Whatever fate you possess - you are gifted as none other. Whether it be the gift of magic in evocation. Or skill in steel unfathomable. Or guile most crafty and cunning. You are set apart and you will change the tide of the world.

This world will hate you for it. But through adversity you will reach the stars.

The words in the tongues of the land are thusly.

"Min khilal alshshadayid, 'iilaa alnnujum."
"Per ardua, ad astra."
"Zài nìjìng zhōng, yào xīngxīng."
"Through adversity, to the stars."
