Hundreds of years ago, dwarves and gnomes came together in the Phandelver's Pact. To share the Wave Echo cave, a source of both material wealth and great magical energies. In time a group of human wizards joined the Pact to harness the magic held in the cave. Together the Pact created the Forge of Spells, where great magical weapons were made. The area prospered and the nearby town of Phandalin became host to the rich and powerful.
In time however, the riches pouring forth attracted the wrong kind of attention. A large force of Orcs came to make the gold their own, and the were aided by a cabal of wizards seeking to claim the powers of the Forge. The battle was fierce between the two forces and the ground heaved with the magics let loose. Much of the cave collapsed and there were few survivors. For those reasons, the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost.

In recent years, people have begun returning to the area, lured by stories of gold and platinum just waiting to be mined, and the chance of finding the Wave Echo Cave. This has caused Phandalin to be rebuilt and it has become a frontier town. And with the growth, bandits and raiders have returned as well, to prey on the weak. Because of the chances of riches, you find yourself in the city of Neverwinter looking for a patron to finance your adventures.
Hello all. This'll be my first time DMing in a PbP format (and Dming a serious adventure in general) and am excited to give it a go. I'll be following the starter set for the most part though I won't force the starter characters on the players. I'm looking for 3-5 players (as I don't want to over-extend myself) and ask that you stay with the PHB options. I'm fairly new to DnD and want to get a feel of the vanilla version before I begin incorporating the non-core books or homebrew. The deadline for applications is June 2 or until I have a full party.
