In the Shadow of the Apple
So, I’ve decided to take another shot at running a game. This one will be Urban Arcana, with one twist. In this game, rather than working for a secretive government agency like Department-7, you are a small-time PI firm that specializes in Shadow-related cases.
This game is somewhat inspired by the TV show Angel, a spinoff of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. If you want to get an idea for what kind of stuff you might encounter, and live in the US, I would suggest going to Hulu.com and watching a few Season One episodes (only American users can watch Hulu). The main difference is that where Angel had various races of demons, this game will deal with fantasy creatures of all types. Also, Angel was set in LA, while this game is set in New York.New York. The Big Apple. The most populated city in the United States. And possibly the greatest city on Earth.
Historically, New York has been a favored destination for immigrants. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, millions of foreigners were processed at Ellis Island, seeking a better life than they had known back home.
Now, during the early 21st century, New York is once again a gateway for immigrants. But these new immigrants do not come from Russia, Germany, Mexico, or for that matter anywhere on Earth. These immigrants come from another world. They come from Shadow.
The world at large is unaware of this. Most people can't even recognize Shadow creatures for what they are. But some are aware, and can see Shadow creatures. And in this city, a few have banded together to help those who need to be helped – all for a reasonable fee.
