In a world of magic and wonder, people are, frustratingly, still people. A peasant is still concerned mostly about caring for his crops, and not every merchant is ambushed by savage monsters every other journey. Life continues in a fairly normal manner, with the common folk offering gifts to spirits that may or may not exist, the upper classes strutting around as if the world belonged to them, and nations fighting wars, not over idealistic causes, but over such things as the claims to a region rich in silver deposits.
Some things are different, sure – Sending in a fleet without magical wardings results mostly in large amount of flotsam, and raiding a major temple without researching their policy regarding magic may be slightly suicidal, but all in all, the motivations remain the same. Given enough time, almost everything can become an accepted part of life, and so too is the case here.
In the world of Threshold, people are much the same as everywhere else. They fight for love and for gain, quarrel for petty reasons, yet some still manage to rise from the vast masses of mediocrity. Life is great, and full of possibilities. Every day is the end of a story and the beginning of two – Be steadfast, and you too may live on in legend.
