For fear of continuity confusion with Krys's game taking place in Spring Creek, and since I'm going to be a bit lazy and draw from caricatures of personal experience, I'm going to shift the setting from a small town in South Dakota to a small town in Arizona named Mailing (that one's made up, but trust me, we have weirder ones). It's out in the middle of cactus land, far enough off the I17 to be forgotten by the rest of the state. (You can keep the old characters if you'd like, and integrate them into the new setting, or you can switch them out for new ones, it's all good by me.) Drag racing is still cool, as are ATVs, parties in the middle of nowhere, anything involving pools or water, and dragging; where one surfs on a couch being dragged behind a pickup truck in the middle of the desert. Mountain Shadow High School takes all kinds, from the wealthy families with luxurious houses alone on their mountain tops, the suburban types whose new town is spoiling their view, to the poor folks on the far side of the mountain, surviving unnoticed since the first families wandered off the California Trail.
The world as of yet is completely normal, all history to be assumed identical to reality, except in ways no character knows about yet. The game will start with the insanity gradually appearing.
