Brackish Basin - a Mausritter adventure
When the saltwater pond known as the Brackish Basin is drained due to an upstream beaver dam, it leaves the citizens of Brineford without their livelihood. It also reveals an ancient temple on the pond floor, built by fish in generations past. What secrets could this long-submerged temple hold?
This is a one-shot-style Mausritter adventure written by Brian Stauffer. The game system is not hard to pick up for a newcomer: not only is it free (pay what you want at itch.io or DriveThruRPG, or access the srd here: https://mausritter.com/srd) but also the rules are short and simple. That's not to say the game is easy. I think the rulebook's list of best practices for players gives a good sense of what to expect from Mausritter:
- Ask lots of questions. Make notes. Draw maps.
- Work together. Devise schemes. Recruit allies.
- Dice are dangerous. Clever plans don’t need to roll.
- Play to win. Delight in losing.
- Fight dirty. Run. Die. Roll a new mouse.
I have actually never played or run Mausritter before, so if you have experience with it, you're way ahead of me already. If it goes well, I might go on to offer another adventure or something more ambitious - but for now I'm not committing to anything beyond this one adventure site. Let's see how that one goes first.
My expectations are that players are able to post two or more times per week. If you know you won't be able to post for a little while, or even need to step away from the game, it's ok, it happens. Please just communicate, either in an OOC thread or by sending me a message. If players are absent without warning I reserve the right to move the game along without them, and their characters will be assumed to follow along passively or maybe go stare at a wall for a while.
