“Pathfinder 2e Play-by-Post: The Bastion of Blasphemies+ A Gothic Horror Campaign in Ustalav “Some places are haunted by the dead. Others are haunted by what the living have done.””

The Premise

Ustalav is a land where the dead do not rest easy.

A land of ancient noble houses, decaying estates, isolated villages, crumbling monasteries, and dark forests, Ustalav has long lived beneath the shadow of its own history. Its people are accustomed to superstition, suspicious of strangers, and painfully aware that the things whispered about in the night are not always merely stories.

Here, the past is never truly past.

Old family feuds outlive their participants. Ancient sins are passed from generation to generation. Abandoned estates conceal terrible histories, while beneath the soil lie the remnants of forgotten civilizations and powers that should have remained undisturbed.

It is a land where a village priest might quietly keep a silver dagger beneath his robes, where a nobleman's family crypt may contain more than his ancestors, and where a seemingly ordinary night can lead to something far more disturbing.

You have come to Ustalav and the town of Grayce for your own reasons.

Perhaps you are a scholar from Lepidstadt investigating an obscure historical mystery. Perhaps you are a refugee from fallen Lastwall seeking employment, a priest pursuing a disturbing rumor, a half orc that is seeking adventure, or a local from Grayce who has grown tired of watching the people around you disappear in the night.

Whatever brought you here, circumstances will draw you into an investigation that begins with unsettling events in the the town of Grayce and leads toward discoveries that challenge the history of the land.

Characters will begin at 3rd level, using the Pathfinder 2e rules. The campaign will progress through a series of adventures in Grayce before transitioning into Bastion of Blasphemies at 5th level.

The official Bastion of Blasphemies Player's Guide will serve as the primary character-creation reference for the eventual Adventure Path. Its advice and custom backgrounds will be particularly useful, even when creating characters for the earlier adventures. That said, you do not need to build a character specifically for the haunted castle from the beginning. In fact, I'd prefer characters who have their own lives, motivations, histories, and reasons for becoming adventurers. As the campaign progresses, those backgrounds can become increasingly relevant.
