Pathfinder 1e

Fire and Gold

GM DM.Mag · 5 players

This is a Classless Hack of Pathfinder 1e game which is allowing for a high level start at level 16. You may choose to build your own race and character spending XP to buy all of the things one normally would get by earning levels along the level based charts in the PF1 ruleset. This is a war between Fire Dragons and Gold Dragons. One could build a gnome or an eagleman warrior who serves with the Silver Knights. One could build a young dragon on either side, or one of the periphery dragon kingdoms as a mercenary or volunteer. Lizardmen, dwarves, gnomes, orcs, ogres and fire giants all have evolved into unique sub-species in the ringed mountainous range and are playable. This will be a 1 post per week game in order to allow for tactical thought and discussion and allow someone with limited time to contribute.

In the mountain range known as the Dhalrang Mountains war has raged for centuries between dragon clans. Races forged to serve both good and evil dragons have been born and worked the stone range from the inside. In the East of the range, Dwarves and gnomes reside in and on the mountains for the Gold dragons who reside high in the clouds for contemplation. Orcs and Fire Giants toil beneath the scree strewn volcanos and scrub shrouded peaks in the North and Southern ends of the circular ring of active volcanic mountains.

It's been more than two centuries since the Gold Dragons were called to do battle with their rivals in the region. Their king is now a mature adult with a wife who came of age not too long ago. They command a legion of dwarves and gnomes in their pursuit for higher enlightenment. The dwarves were taught more than a thousand years ago how to tame the volcanic shafts in order to harness heat for forge and hearth. The gnomes live in hand cut caves near the surface herding goats and practicing magic. Both races trade with each other, cut off from others of their kind. They've adapted and evolved into their own sub-species.

In the past two hundred years the Fire Dragons of the north have flown across to chain the Fire Giants who broke away and fled the last time war broke out with the Golds. It's been a bloody century of war between the dragons of the North and South which was under the iron fist of Hormund the Mighty. A juvenile Blue Dragon offered services to quell the rebellious branch of giants in the south and in the war happened to fall in love with the oldest male who survived. Hormund was slain by fell magic after a path through the granite mountainside was carved with her lightning breath. The act united North and South under King Zlatin the Red and Queen Bariul the Blue.

Now with the ability to pull followers from the North and South Zlatin is eyeing the eastern mountains hoping to catch the rival Gold's asleep. A war party headed from North and South looks to converge on the cloud ringed range. Danger lurks in the center of the range against such a war party. The center is a lush jungle tended by intelligent lizardfolk and dinosaurs who can engage in melee against younger dragons. The giants in the South must either scale carved sheer rock walls and risk falling or traverse a dangerous swamp. The swamp harbors a renegade Black dragon Drunoas and her half harpy, half dragon children who demand their toll of all who pass through their desolate swamp. These children hunt and feed on the dinosaurs near her black swamp and are no stranger to combating giant foes.

High above a citadel made of clouds and ice an ancient order of Silver Dragons and their followers keep watch over the continent going in a long path carved out of the sky. Hawkmen and Eaglemen were forged by Silver Dragons long ago to help in their combating destructive threats that are beyond the reach of mortals on the ground and several of them have noticed the activity on its yearly passage over the mountains. Doing their duty a pair of Hawkmen were sent to bring word to the gnomes living on the surface. Another pair of Eaglemen were sent higher to find one of the dwarven priests that tends to the elusive and secretive Golds that war is coming as the Fire Giants have chosen to test their mettle against Drunoas and her children. Wading through the chest deep black water which is a feeding ground for Back Dragon wyrmlings will test their patience and fortitude as they wade through. Meanwhile Zlatin and Bariul escort an army of followers along the foothills just above the jungle. Mages and warriors alike hunt dinosaurs for their dragon masters in a massive army which has turned the Greens against them forcing them to climb along the rocks in chains day by day.

Lizard folk warriors have offered to serve in either side of the war as mercenaries and as hunters to hunt for meat to trade, not owing to any side and looking to preserve their jungle home. Angering the Greens they were made to serve, 37 Lizardfolk and 3 young dragons were slain before a peace was made internally to sell meat to those who avoid their jungle home. Greens fly above the high canopy to keep watch for gnomes, orcs and giants from cutting wood and stealing dinosaurs.

War is coming to the Dhalrang Mountains, famous for it's circular nature that grows taller each year through volcanic activity. Created as a home for dragons it's now grown too crowded with servitor races. Those who rule are now being called to defend their own region in the range. A call for those loyal to their Dragon King or those who sing up as mercenaries. Bariul has brought a contingent of her followers to aid her husbands war against the Golds. It's said she only brings magus students with her on campaign. Her husband brings a myriad of warriors both as loyal followers and those who fell in battle to him far south of the mountains. Chaining the brave warriors of the badlands in an oath of servitude they have met up with the army of Zlatin. Its said a Davholi Knight and a Wolfman warrior were forced to kneel and bring their followers through a mountain pass opened by the Fire Giants. Both were of great repute among the badlands but are relatively unknown elsewhere.

The cloud fortress remains parked over the jungle with a Contingent of Silver Knights tracking the progress of both armies. Sworn to the protect the innocent and stand against wickedness, the Silver Knights are being recalled from all directions to make a stand incase the Greens or Drunoas side with the monstrous retinue under Zlatin and move on the eastern end of the range in unity.
