Welcome to Mothership, the sci-fi horror roleplaying game where you and your crew try to survive in the most inhospitable environment in the universe: outer space. You'll excavate dangerous, derelict spacecraft, explore strange unknown worlds, encounter hostile alien life, and examine the horrors encroaching upon your every move.

Warden: c_alexander

ms-new-header_22.jpg?v=1714335560&width=2400Easy to Play. Hard to Survive. Mothership® is designed from the ground up to be intuitive to run and easy to play, no system mastery required.

The players will be taking on the role of these characters out in the uncaring void of space, trying to make ends meet, and maybe make something of themselves while they're at it. They will have to brave strange alien ruins, scour derelict space ships, and often play dirty if they are to survive. You'll play to expand your crew's arsenal, make some important contacts, and reap the rewards of completing challenges.

Mothership' is a D&D Killer - 10 reasons to dump high fantasy for sci-fi horror | The Ugly MonsterWhat’s different about Mothership?

If you have played other roleplaying games before, here are some differences between Mothership and other games:

  • The game master is referred to as the Warden.
  • There are no levels or experience points.
  • Characters improve mechanically by converting Stress into better Saves.
  • Characters mostly improve by making allies, acquiring wealth or a ship, installing cybermods, gaining knowledge, and collecting favors within the game world.
  • You don’t roll for every little thing. If you have the right tools, Skill, or class, you don’t usually roll unless the stakes are high or there’s a lot of uncertainty.
  • There are no social rolls. Instead, social encounters are handled through roleplaying.
  • Violence is extremely deadly and should be used as a last resort.
  • Healing is expensive, and desperate players finding a way to pay for procedures can drive the game forward.
  • Encounters are not balanced to your characters’ capabilities.
  • Your Stats and Saves are not necessarily a measure of your character’s personalities. They are a measure of characters’ ability to act under extreme pressure.

For this game, players can expect to be provided creepy audio log files to interpret, pictures of locations, NPCs, and the horrors of the unknown. Should you accrue enough wealth, your characters can buy their own ship to run business out of.

You'll play as an individual that's lived long enough to develop the skills to get by in the universe. However having backup characters is probably a good call, space is dangerous.

The mission survivors will take shore leave from the horrors they've faced, often for months or years before returning again, developing skills with their accrued stress and hard-won credits.

My intention for this game is to have a diverse collection of players with a home hub, where the players decide which missions to take and form their own crews.

There will be a home base space station where characters can gather and plan, negotiate with the inhabitants, or investigate the station's dark secrets. Missions could be posted in the station, or perhaps the crew has a lead from a previous mission.

If the crew gets on the wrong side of someone, they may find themselves the targets of dangerous bounty hunters. Or the crew themselves might get paid for head-hunting a rogue android out on a desert moon.

ms-new-header_03.jpg.33e8cce386b9a3339d45224dd6852375.jpgThe game style I am going for is primarily player-driven. The members of this game will co-operate with each other out-of-character to form a 3 to 4 member crew, collaborating based on the Mission they've chosen.

In character the various crew members could certainly be interacting with each other during downtime in the station pubs.

This is an open campaign, where players can dive in at any time. Lets be welcoming and show new players the ropes, cuz who doesn't like another bug hunt?
