Oyan: The Catalyst's Legacy

Civilization has found purchased across the great continent on Oyan, each with their own cultures, traditions, and means of survival. The world has had relative peace for generations and War is a cursed three letter word. Eighteen years ago, a great Aurora spread across the northern sky and could be seen for thousands of miles; virtually all of Oyan bore witness to it. It was magnificent, beautiful, and mysterious. For three days it shone and then just as inexplicably as it appeared, it was gone. But it left something in it's wake: magic. Oyan finds itself in an Age of Discovery not unlike the one that spread civilizations across the breadth of the world. This one has proven to be more personal though, as many find different paths to magical prowess. But magic comes with a price for both the user and the community around it. What will this look like when the magic is fully harnessed? Who will be it's mediators and conjurors? What people are destined to be its reapers or victims? There will be those that oppose magic for the old ways, but will they have enough to keep the delicate scales from tipping too far out of balance?
