Rusthenge: Salt and Iron

GM PluralBoats · 4/4 players · posts Once per day

The village of Osprey Cove has been a quiet, humble community since its founding. A quiet place and a refuge for a people who escaped a violent and turbulent past. However, the world of Golarion is not a static one, and threats, old and new, can arise to imperil even the smallest and least significant of places. An ancient threat, long dormant in the hinterlands of Chakikoth Isle, is being roused from its slumber, and new heroes must arise to meet it.

Rusthenge: Salt and Iron will be using the adventure Rusthenge, published by Paizo, and will take level 1 characters through to level 4. If the adventure goes well, we may continue on to another Adventure Path, such as Seven Dooms for Sandpoint, and convert this into a full campaign.

This is a game that is more geared towards newcomers to the system, who want to try it out in a more constrained adventure before committing to a full campaign. Absolute newcomers to PF2E are more than welcome!

Rusthenge is set in the Kindred Coast, on Chakikoth Isle, an island in an archipelago in the west of New Thassilon, in the world of Golarion. The island is fairly irrelevant now, home to a handful of villages and little else, but also houses ruins of the capital of Old Thassilon, Old Xin-Edasseril. While ignored and irrelevant, these ruins, and the growing power of New Thassilon is attracting more and more attention to the once-unclaimed island.

The day prior to the start of the adventure, the village of Osprey Cove is battered by a seasonal storm. That in and of itself isn't unusual, but something occurs during the storm that triggers an investigation, and the uncovering of a deadly conspiracy. For more information, see here.

Characters can be from any region in Golarion, but should have at least a broadly heroic temperament. Extensive knowledge of the setting is absolutely not required.

We will be using the rules as presented in the Remaster of the Second Edition of Pathfinder - players are expected to have access to Player Core, at the bare minimum. We will also not be using any third-party material at this time. As the GM, I will be primarily using Player Core, Player Core 2, Gamemaster Core, and Monster Core. I may acquire more books if I enjoy the system and wish to flesh it out more.

We will be using two variant rules detailed here, along with character creation guidelines. In brief, characters will start at level one, and can use any common or uncommon ancestry/heritage/background, as well as some backgrounds unique to Rusthenge.

Considerations to PbP play are described here.
