The Ash Heap

GM Ratwalk · 12 players

The year is 2020. Ten years ago, the world burned. Cities shattered, the sky fell down, and reality itself trembled as powers beyond mortal comprehension collided. The event is remembered only as the Derecho Incident, and the cost was staggering. 1 billion dead, landscapes scarred, and entire nations reshaped. But global civilization somehow survived, rebuilt on fractured ground, its people wary of the impossible being real. That the nations of the world were not the only superpowers that existed. Now, a new generation of Enhanced humans rises. Stronger, stranger, with greater numbers than ever. Some call it evolution, to others it is a warning of the final conflict that dooms the human race. You are among this new breed, trained under watchful eyes and burdened with a question no one has answered: Will you be guardians of the fragile peace or the destroyers long prophesized to wipe the world clean? (Check game expectations for more details)

Arks
Ten safe cities and metropolitan areas designated by the International Vanguard Company (IVC) to be free of Dimensional Pins. These areas are legal to live in as a civilian, and there is minimal radiation or exotic energy exposure in these areas. Most of humanity is rebuilding in these places.

Ark 1: The North American (Located in Kansas, USA)
Ark 2: The Central American (Located in Cozumel, Belize)
Ark 3: Northern African (Located in Casablanca, Morocco)
Ark 4: Central African (Located in N'Djamena, Chad)
Ark 5: South African (Located in the Kalahari Desert)
Ark 6: Asia Minor (Istanbul, Turkey)
Ark 7: European (Berlin, Germany)
Ark 8: South Asian (Chandigarh, India)
Ark 9: Oceania (Island of Bali)
Ark 10: East Asia (Shanghai, China)

Dimensional Pins

A contingency plan that prevents the destruction of our current local reality by limiting the tears in our dimension to designated areas using exotic energy manipulation. These pins rotate from place to place but generally are situated near vast territories with low population. Examples include DP 1 (Central Saharan Desert). Research teams, relic hunters, and some mutated survivors still call these areas home.

Reclaiming Grounds

Areas where Dimensional Pins cannot spawn but population was devastated. These sites have been taken over by the Research Corps (RCs), a conglomerate of about 25 of the leading research think tanks and industry leaders in every scientific field from engineering to agriculture. These areas are carefully selected for reconstruction. Though the re-establishment of local vs refugee populations has become a pitched topic many committees of the RC. RG 1 is the Amazon Rainforest and has no Dimensional Pins.

Technology

High-Tech Reconstructions: Cities feature advanced transportation, energy grids, and even medicine derived from Enhanced Human discoveries. Some technology is outright powered by these individuals or samples of their tissues.
Relic Integration: Derecho artifacts fuel innovation but are unpredictable; experimental weapons and biotech are rare and closely regulated.
Communications Networks: Communication and data-sharing are less advanced than our current time and monitored for 'metahuman escalation' by the IVC. A high class PR suite is given to all IVC personnel, including the Player Characters.
