The Atom Family

In The Atom Family players will take on the roles of the immediate family of Dr. Alexander Atom who have been transformed by cosmic energy from an alien object to become the world’s only superheros.

In 2015, the world’s greatest mind, astrophysicist and inventor Dr. Alexander Atom attempted to capture and decode unusual signals coming from 4I/Odin, an interstellar object, as it passed between the earth and the sun. Atom was absolutely convinced that 4I/Odin was the artifact of some alien intelligence, and he believed his work to be the most important scientific discovery of the century.

On the night that 4I/Odin passed closest to the earth—the time when the signal would be the least likely to be interrupted—Atom invited all of his friends, family, and colleagues to his university laboratory to witness his monumental discovery. He was going to prove with this data transmission the existence of intelligent alien life. Atom’s closest family even got a front-row seat of the signal download at the observatory a few miles out of town where the antenna array was located.

Things, however, did not go as planned.

When Atom’s giant array locked on to the signal from 4I/Odin, the object sent a powerful burst of data and cosmic energy along the carrier beam back to Atom’s observatory. There was a massive explosion at the observatory, and when rescue workers arrived, it was believed that Atom’s immediate family had all been killed. But, one by one, they emerged from the rubble, not dead but transformed. The cosmic energy from 4I/Odin gave them superhuman powers, the likes of which the world had never seen.

It is now 2025, and for the last ten years Dr. Atom has slowly decoded what alien data he could recover from the wreckage of the observatory. And his family, the Atom Family, has become the guardians of the planet as its only superheros. The Atom Family protects the world from natural disasters and from a new threat: supertech! Just a few years after the 4I/Odin incident, an explosion of supertech—used by criminal gangs, lone wolves, and enemy governments—appeared in the world. That supertech is now spreading and advancing at an alarming rate. Getting to the source of this supertech is Dr. Atom’s highest priority.

Game Conceits:

• This is a silver-age Fantastic Four game with the serial numbers filed off.
• The Atom Family are the good guys, and supertech villains are the bad guys.
• Protecting civilians is the highest priority.
• The group is family, and they are always loyal to one another.
• The group lives in New York City in the Atom Tower, the home base for the Atom Family.
• More people were present at the observatory than the PCs. We’ll bring them into the game as needed. Otherwise we will ignore them.
• If we need non-super family members, we will assume that not all of them traveled up to the observatory but stayed at the lab with Dr. Atomic.
• The game is PL 10.
• Characters should have Cosmic Energy as a primary descriptor for all their powers; they became superheroes during the blast.
• Characters should be built for FF kinds of stories, four-color heroes with strong archetype vibes.

I am looking for three to five players who can post three times a week. This first game will be a short convention-style scenario that should be over in a 3-6 months of real time with more adventures to come if everyone is still interested.
