The Beast of Hirot
At the ragged edge of the great High Forest, where the dark trees press close and the wilderness swallows the road, the small village of Hirot lives in fear. Each night, as the last light fades beyond the distant hills and the forest sinks into shadow, a monstrous creature stalks the village streets. It comes silently from the treeline, a devil-beast of fang and fury, tearing into the living before vanishing once more into the dark woods.
No one is safe. Not the poorest woodcutter nor the oldest crone. Doors are barred, fires burn through the night, and prayers are whispered to any god that might listen. Even the weary headman of Hirot, and the handful of hunters and woodsmen who guard the palisade have proven powerless to stop the beast that comes with the night.
About me: Hi, my name is Ben. I'm 44 years old, happily married, and the father of two lovely daughters. I've been playing RPGs since the early 90s. I started out playing board games with my older brother, and then we discovered D&D and went a little crazy 😅.
Later I moved on to PBEM games, and eventually to PBP. I've played all editions of D&D (except the 2024 one), as well as Pathfinder 1e, Dungeon Crawl Classics, and various retroclones. I recently joined MW to have some fun with you all here. Professionally, I work as a financial analyst for a large corporation. Besides RPGs, I enjoy movies (from serious cinema to C-grade horror), comics, good music, and playing golf. I’m looking forward to having a great time here and having fun with you all.
About the Adventure
The adventure begins as the heroes travel through the High Forest for another day. The day before, they were caught on the trail in a nasty downpour and gale, forcing them to quickly find shelter and causing them to lose their bearings. After wandering for a few hours, they suddenly hear strange, aggressive human cries coming from nearby. This is where we'll begin.
You've known each other for a while now and decided to travel together. For the purposes of this game, we'll assume you set out from Uluvin to Everlund as a group, taking the shortest route through the High Forest. However, this detail isn't particularly important to the plot of the adventure.
I plan to run this module as it was originally released for Dungeon Crawl Classics in 2012, adapting the plot and challenges to D&D 5e. There will be some social interaction, a bit of mystery, a bit of dungeon crawl, and a confrontation with the main antagonist of the story. This isn't a very complex adventure in terms of plot—think of it as meeting up at a friend's house on a Saturday afternoon, like in the good old days, to play a fun one-shot and just have a good time.
My hope is to bring together a diverse group of players who just want to relax and have fun together.
Who I'm looking for:
Players that enjoy "roleplaying" over "rollplaying", can get involved in the game, post regularly and consistently, and get along with and respect the other players. I like players that will communicate with me. Real life happens and I am very understanding, so if something happens and you aren't able to post for an amount of time, then just let me know.
Who I'm not looking for?
Players who only care about their own characters rather than the team. Players who are constant rules lawyers and argue about everything. Players who try to sabotage the game and ruin the experience for others. Players who always play extremely dark, antisocial characters and act like they’re above the rest of the group. And finally, players who disrespect everyone’s time and disappear after two GM posts without any explanation.
If you're interested in the game, please check the character creation section. You'll find all the most important information there.
The recruitment deadline is March 31, 2026
