The Reformers

GM SeekingPolaris · 4/5 players · posts Every few days

We’ve all heard stories of superheroes with unimaginable power, the ones who kick, punch, and blast to kingdom come. But what about the ones who don’t? What do the superpowered pacifists do? The heroes who need some good PR? The ones who just need a change of pace? They join The Reformation. Led by Rowan Kein, AKA Blue Jay, the Reformers serve as first responders, de-escalators, diplomats, and investigators–––all while trying to limit violence. For Kein, it’s a mission to advocate for active nonviolence and serve in spaces that other heroes overlook. However, each member has their own reasons for joining the team. Some are part of the short-term rotation of heroes that are often on probation, healing after injury, or rookies learning the ropes. Others are more permanent members who have found purpose or community here. Together, the Reformers navigate the constant changes in their society, wrestling with what those changes mean for their hero personas and their civilian lives. World: Other Teams: There are several other superhero and antihero teams, but Omniwatch is the most famous and powerful on Earth with 8 prime members and numerous branches worldwide. Formed thirty years ago and before superhero legislation existed, the team has shifted with society and has become more of an institution as time has gone on. Several Omniwatch members have joined the Reformers at some point, and Blue Jay was on that team before she formed the Reformers over 3 years ago. Most other teams are region or specialty-based (magical threats, organized crime, etc.), and have a wide range of relationships with law enforcement and the public. Shockingly, three members were killed by an unknown entity a week ago, and amidst the superhero infighting over what to do, the Reformers are left to support the public. The Undying: an Illuminati-like group of seemingly immortal figures with varied moral codes, the Undying, occasionally intervene in superhero affairs in order to maintain order and not draw the attention of mysterious beings called the Corrolam. Hero Life: Members of the Reformers and other major teams are salaried. Whether they go full-time, keep a secret identity, or live in team housing is up to them. Setting: Most cities in the rp won’t be real ones, and the Reformers’ headquarters, Rikler Mansion, is located in Cobalt City on the East Coast of the US. For the most part, the rp will be set in a modern setting with futuristic tech (think most Marvel and DC settings). Lore-Building: Like DC or Marvel, this world has heroes and villains of alien, magical, and many other origins–there is no set path. I’d like to build on the world’s lore as we go, but I want to do so with all of you and make space for everyone to develop the backstory they want for their character, so bring your big ideas! Misc: Humorous, satirical, and darker elements are all welcome, and we can balance these tones. However, I want to avoid heavy gore and themes of self-harm and SA for our friends who that may trigger. Just because the team isn’t supposed to fight, doesn’t mean there won’t be action! The Reformers often go on high-stakes missions. However, this roleplay will also dig into the team’s personal lives and bonds with each other Romance is welcome, but keep it safe for work, please and thank you. Please try to post once or twice a week. If you’re gone for 3 weeks without notice, we may end up moving on without you. Character Ideas: - Blue Jay’s co-leader or second-in-command who focuses on strategy and tech, and, after some recent traumatic events, is starting to question the Reformers’ status quo - A well-known member of Omniwatch who’s on probation after a mission gone wrong - A hero with powers of a darker nature who is trying not to hurt people - A former sidekick who’s recently struck out on their own and is trying to prove themself - A bitter big-leagues wannabe with sucky powers - A hero with rare, powerful abilities who truly believes in the Reformation’s mission despite outside pressure to “do more.” - A public figure outed as having superpowers and pressured to use their abilities If you’re looking for a superhero roleplay with fun banter, moral quandaries, dynamic action, and emotional depth, join the Reformers.
