The Unwritten Revolution

GM Showtime710 · 0/10 players · posts Casual/No schedule

**The Unwritten Revolution** The American Revolution is coming. The colonies are restless. British authority is beginning to fracture. Old alliances are being tested, rumors travel faster than armies, and across the continent people are being forced to decide where they stand. But something else is moving beneath the history we know. Ancient secrets have begun to surface. Strange creatures have been seen where they should not exist. Maps do not always agree with the land they claim to describe. Dreams, legends, and forgotten stories are beginning to intersect with events that will eventually shape a nation. This is a D&D campaign set in Revolutionary-era America, blending historical events, exploration, political intrigue, mystery, and supernatural horror. Real events and historical figures will appear throughout the campaign, but the characters will gradually discover a hidden story unfolding beneath the Revolution. Players will begin as members of one of **three groups**: * **British Soldiers** — Members of the British military serving in North America, beginning their story from the perspective of the Crown and its forces. * **Mohawk Characters** — Members of the Mohawk Nation whose communities, traditions, alliances, and lands are being affected by the growing conflict. * **American Colonists** — People living within the colonies as resistance to British rule grows and revolution approaches. To begin the campaign, I am looking for **no more than two player characters from each group**, for a starting maximum of six characters. These groups will begin separately. The British characters will have their own story. The Mohawk characters will have theirs. The colonists will have theirs. Each group will experience different events, meet different people, discover different pieces of information, and develop its own understanding of what is happening. At times, those stories may intersect. At other times, the characters may be separated by hundreds of miles. Eventually, their choices may bring them together—or place them on opposing sides of the same event. ### Choosing Your Partner Because each starting group will consist of only two characters, I want the players to have a say in who they begin the campaign alongside. Interested players should first post a general character concept and indicate whether they are most interested in playing a British soldier, a Mohawk character, or an American colonist. Before full characters are finalized, players will have an opportunity to talk with one another and decide who they would like to be paired with. Each pair should then create a believable connection between their characters. They might be siblings, relatives, friends, fellow soldiers, neighbors, hunting companions, political allies, rivals, people assigned to the same duty, or simply two people whose circumstances have forced them to rely on one another. Your characters do **not** need to agree with each other. In fact, disagreement is encouraged. What matters is that they have a believable reason to remain together when the campaign begins. Ideally, every pair will begin with two things: **Something that binds them together.** And... **Something they disagree about.** Those differences may become much more important as the Revolution grows. ### How the Campaign Will Work This is intended to be a character-driven, play-by-post campaign with multiple storylines happening at the same time. Players should be comfortable with the idea that their characters may sometimes know things that other characters do not. Secrets, letters, rumors, dreams, private conversations, separate investigations, and different versions of the same event may all become part of the campaign. Information discovered by one group may eventually reach another through correspondence, rumor, newspapers, NPCs, captured documents, or by the characters finally meeting one another. Historical events will continue to happen around the characters whether they choose to become involved in them or not. The Revolution does not wait for the adventurers. You may find yourself arriving somewhere moments before an event remembered by history. You may become involved in it. You may try to stop it. You may ignore it entirely. And sometimes you may discover that the history you thought you knew was only part of the story. ### What I Am Looking For Players do **not** need to be experts on the American Revolution. You do not need to know every battle, historical figure, political faction, or date. Curiosity about the period is far more important than already knowing everything about it. I am looking for players who enjoy: * Character-driven roleplaying * Investigation and mystery * Historical settings * Exploration * Political and personal conflict * Difficult choices without obvious answers * Slow-burning supernatural horror * Characters who can grow and change over time * Sharing a larger story even when their characters are not always in the same place For now, recruitment will be limited to two characters from each starting group. If additional players become interested later, we can decide how and when new characters can enter the story as the campaign develops. History remembers the Revolution. **This campaign is about what history forgot.**
