The Visit

GM Aglaophotis · 0/5 players · posts Every few days

“Winter, 2001. You’ve come to Damariscotta, Maine for Christmas week with Aunt Frances and your cousins. The cocoa is warm. The guest beds are made. Uncle Gregory is still at work. Grandma Sanders is her usual enigmatic self. It's sure to be quite the stay...”

Premise

You arrive in Damariscotta, Maine just as the snow begins to stick. The last miles of the drive are swallowed by tall pines and roadside drifts that look more like graves than snowbanks, and the quiet out here is so deep it makes you shiver.

Aunt Frances meets you at the door of the Sanders home with her usual warmth, along with warm drinks and your cousins Mark and Kate, who help you settle into the guest rooms. Uncle Gregory isn’t home yet. He’s handling some last-minute work matters, and he’ll be back whenever he’s done. Grandma Sanders is puttering about, still a looming presence despite her advanced age.

It’s only a week before Christmas. That’s long enough to share a few meals, trade gifts, and enjoy the rural charm of Maine’s midcoast. What could go wrong?

The Game

This is a one-shot for 5 players who want a fun, spooky time. Expect small-town atmosphere, family dynamics, and a slow creep of dread as the holiday visit turns into something else.

Characters
Concepts can be broad. Your investigator can be anything from a teenager to an adult. The only requirement is a family tie that makes Gregory and Frances Sanders your uncle and aunt, whether by blood, by marriage, or by some other close connection. Think about how close you are to the family, how often you visit, and why you came this year.

Rules

  • Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition

  • Characters are built with the default build method from the Investigator's Handbook

  • You may reroll up to three characteristics you aren’t happy with

Beyond that, have fun!
