The Wondering by Witchlight

GM JaymiiZ · 2 players

The Witchlight Carnival’s lights still shine, but tonight they lead somewhere far darker. Beneath the laughter lies a realm of warped reality and creeping horrors, where puzzles guard every path and riddles hold the keys to escape. Combat may come, but brute force alone won’t save you—here, quick thinking and keen eyes are your greatest weapons. The Wandering is calling… and it won’t let go until it’s finished with you.

Tonight, the Witchlight Carnival is more than bright colors and smiling faces. Beneath the painted tents and cheerful music lies a different kind of attraction—one hidden from the casual guest, and not meant for the faint of heart.

This is a place where the rules of reality twist and bend, where the familiar turns strange, and the strange turns dangerous. You’ll find yourself navigating supernatural horrors, deciphering riddles, and untangling puzzles that guard your only way forward.

Make no mistake—there will be threats that can end you. But this is not a game of rushing in with steel in hand. Here, cleverness is sharper than any sword, and your mind will be your most dangerous weapon. The dangers can be fought… but they can also be avoided—if you pay attention, think creatively, and trust your wits.

In The Wandering at the Witchlight, the path to survival is written in shadows, hidden in whispers, and locked behind riddles. The carnival is waiting. Step inside… if you dare.

A Note on Secrets:
Every traveler who enters the Witchlight Carnival carries a secret, whether they realize it or not. Before the game begins, each player will be given a private role or hidden agenda known only to them and the Dungeon Master. Some of these secrets may be harmless, some may be dangerous, and some may change the way you see your companions entirely. Share them—or guard them—at your own risk.

A note about the game:

This original game was written as a one-shot. I'm extending it a bit to make it more of a campaign, but it will have a more "escape room" feel than a traditional dungeon crawl. If you're looking for a hack-and-slash game with epic battle scenes, this may not be the game for you. This also won't be a multi-year-long-running game, unless the group loves it and wants to keep going.
