These Nights are Getting Longer

GM Quint Essence · 5 players

A contemplatively paced campaign set in Rainien, the seat of an Empire in recovery after the recent defeat of a demonic Winged horde and the return of its royal family. While the courtly drama dies down and warriors return home from the borderlands, everything should be looking up - but an unqualifiable malaise seems to be sapping that positivity before it can take hold. At first, it seemed like simple cultural exhaustion but the more wary and unhinged say it is more supernatural than that, and more and more reasonable people are giving those thoughts weight.

Now Hiring: Adventurers With a Pulse

“The world hasn’t ended. It just stopped caring.”

In Rainien, crops still grow, townsfolk still trade and worship their Gods and receive simple blessings, but something is wrong. Music doesn’t stir the soul like it used to and laughter feels thin and distant. People go through the motions, eyes not quite hollow; with dreams good or bad forgotten upon waking, never lingering.

Something is draining the world... Not with blood or fire as had been the fears of the last generation, but with silence, stagnation, apathy. You feel it too, but unlike the others, you haven’t given in. Not yet.

You might be a mercenary, an unusually curious scholar, a runaway priest, a bard wondering if they are alone in feeling through art... The world is safe enough for all kinds of person to thrive; in a manner of speaking. Together, you and your companions will uncover the slow decay at the heart of the realm and maybe, just maybe, remember what it means to feel alive.

Story Expectations

  • A slowly unraveling mystery where your character motivation and interaction is vital as the plot

  • A grounded fantasy world with magic yes, but also real consequences

  • Themes: existential dread, buried secrets, reaching for hope in the fog

  • Heavy roleplay focus; combat will not be a constant, and the results of interactions will carry forward.

  • Adult mentality and themes; This will be a maturely minded game (though not explicit), the details of subject matter will be discussed throughout recruitment and remain open to adjusting during the game.

Looking for 3–5 players who love:

  • Thoughtful character arcs

  • Moral ambiguity and strange truths

  • Bringing light into life or learning to live without it

If you’ve ever wanted to explore a dying world not in flames, but in forgetting. See character creation section
