Game Expectations

Familiarity with Castles and Crusades is not required, as the system is pretty easy to pick up and hybridizes ideas from 2nd and 3rd edition D&D while streamlining the resolution mechanics. In addition to this, it is worth noting that I gravitate toward narrative first gaming and will lean a lot on the 'rule of cool' when it comes to heroes doing hero stuff. Taking chances and facing risk is something I like to encourage in my efforts to weave a fun story, so the rules take a backseat to what is interesting when conflicts arise.

This will be a collaboration heavy game with players taking on the responsibility of creating cultures, nations, and religions to fill out the world. There will be a lot of freedom in defining the world and how things function when deciding on backstory and character information. As such, players will need to be involved in the discussion and willing to work with others on defining the setting.

In that vein, it will also be important for characters to interact in this game and for players to communicate outside of the IC framework. If you have a direction you'd like to see a story go for your character, or a goal in mind for them to pursue to make their story interesting, I'd like everyone to feel comfortable discussing those things. The game is primarily about telling a story that we collectively find interesting and we should all have weight in guiding it. I believe it is equally important to clarify what we individually do not want as part of that story, so I will be opening up a conversation on lines (things that will not appear in the game) and veils (things that exist but don't receive focus) before play begins.

I will post twice per week, with 72 hours between posts as a general rule. One post to move the story forward and one to fill in details, answer questions, respond with NPCs and the like. I expect posts from my players at least once per week to keep pace with that. Situations WILL arise where posts are missed, both from myself and from players, and I only ask that people communicate about expected delays.
