Deano stopped just short of Zoe's guard post and called out, not wanting to startle the ex-game warden. "Anything?" he asked, presenting her with a small bag of pemmican he had made from a rabbit, nuts, and berries he had dried and blended.

Zoe shook her head, accepting the bag, which coaxed one of the rare smiles she gave, as she rose and stretched. "Nope, it's been quiet, considering everything.  Heard a mountain lion about maybe two or so klicks to the west.  Might have to send out a team to take it down if it gets closer." She added matter of fact. Deano nodded, accepting her expertise as fact.

She slung her backpack over her shoulder and handed her long gun to him with reluctance. "Don't break it," she warned, her tone carrying a slight accusation.

Deano took the rifle adeptly, ejected the box magazine, extracted the loaded round, and worked the action a few times before reinserting the round and the magazine, preparing the rifle. "Wouldn't dream of it," he responded with a grin. "By the way, have you seen Scott today?"
