  1. spacer.pngBruti moves into the passage along with Caspian and Kaspar, grumbling slightly as he steps in the sticky blood of a hobgoblin.

"We should assume they've heard us by now. And we could use some light."

Silas acknowledges Esi and Noxolo in turn.

"Charmed," he says somewhat automatically, his intentions elsewhere. Silas moseys around the dormitory area until he arrives at what is seemingly the most remote room, in the southeast corner. A room with a window that opens right into the yard and the convenient-if-needed cover of a bush. Satisfied, Silas roams back into the larger area to find Alandri acquainting himself with some kind of odd-looking creature.

"Two of a kind, how quaint!" Silas japes, taking on an exaggerated bardic tone and grinning smugly. "The age-old story of starry-eyed young classmates opening their timid hearts. There's more than just magic in the air at Magaambya!"

The sudden appearance and disappearance of the wizardly man left Bhagat as stumped as before, just with more context to the complete enigma he found himself embroiled in, apparently further than he had imagine.

"I feel so informed. I'll post down here with my rifle; they get too close, I'll give 'em the David Byrne," he says, unshouldering his rifle and heading for a position at a ground floor window. "Oh, pleased to meet you, but you won't guess my name. It's Bhagat - hey , how ya doin, all that."

  6. spacer.pngHrmmm, Bruti groans in annoyance as the Hobs hunker down. He points his blade towards the apparently stalwart goblinoids and the divine sparks flowing from his blade flare hot and bright for a moment, the energy rippling towards the point of the weapon and lancing outwards.

"Deus would prefer if you knock that off."

Bhagat stops with his hand in the air, about to knock at the decaying door of the house but hesitating as he hears the vague murmur of voices inside. He frowns, his hair moving with a breeze that wasn't there, and pulls off his glasses, rubbing his glimmering white eyes. He takes a breath, exhaling with some embellishment.

"So weird. Ok," he mumbles to himself, flicking at the handle of his gun with the thumb of his free hand.

    He knocks.

Silas nods his head noncommittally towards Alandri and turns to Teacher Ot.

"I seek to perfect my peculiar art, and collect what secrets and power lie dormant in so many things. Especially if those things are shiny." Silas says, pausing. He takes a breath, his mouth a flat line, looking down and then up again.

"As to what defines me, beyond my intriguing love-hate relationship with my lineage and status, is that I can't help myself. That is the Foljet curse - obsessive curiosity with a covetous streak. The impulse is irresistible even for the dullest academics in the extensive Foljet line. In my case, magic and treasure are one and the same. What else is there for me to do?" he adds with a shrug before turnign aside and scratching the bridge of his nose in just such a way this his mouth was obscured.

Words are heard in Alandri's ears only, as Silas makes immediate use of his new gift.

'Shiny, shiny things, Malfore. Try not to step on my toes too much, would you?'

"Coulda sworn somebody said that before..." he mumbles, trailing off wearily as he scoots up to the mouth of the western passage, flanking it on one side and gesturing for Caspian to take the opposite position.

"Remember, no resurrections. We swallow up whatever comes through here."

  13. Thinking about technology levels, no electricity means incredibly limited surveillance, since the best you can do is manually-developed photography, and once the stores of existing modern film rolls run out I wonder if you can manufacture 19th-century film media without electricity, or even source and refine the materials. The equipment isn't exactly in abundant supply even now, I'd bet. Photography might be a rare or lost art.

This also means no fancy vision goggles or video of any kind, nothing more advanced than manual binoculars or telescopes. No flashlights. It just occurred to me that this feels analogous to Escape from New York, whereas I was previously picturing something more like Jin-Roh.

  14. I just didn't want to do anything overt because it's not my style - if we need to be more identifiable for the story, I'll come up with something. Are auras/lighting/weird effects cool, or should we be considering a bodily feature?

That adds a fun wrinkle to the characterization, as the more noticeable the trait the more it would affect how you think and behave
