  1. spacer.pngBruti nods at Caspian's suggestion and keeps his eyes peeled as they await his reconnaissance, his free hand hovering near the sheaf of arrows on his hip.

  2. I was thinking that if I could recall anything about the bird, I might be able to find a nest. Who knows, maybe Ot is wearing something with quail feathers and we're just not seeing it

"Must I always be the cat who ate the canary?" Silas jests. He scratches behind one ear with a claw, ruminating momentarily over the puzzle presented and the bird itself. Presently he pulls a somewhat tarnished and aged but quite ornate folding mirror from a pocket, scarcely bigger than a locket or small pocket watch, and flips it open, his eyes darting to the eaves where the quail had so recent hidden from the cloudburst. His mouth curls into a wry smile.

"I suppose we could ask it nicely? I'm trying to think if I know anything of the species, but then again, perhaps I'll just sort the bird's eye view first."

With a glint in his eye matching that crossing the reflective surface of the mirror, Silas appears roughly fifteen feet up into the eaves where the bird had just been, despite also remaining in the same position on the ground.

"Now let's see..." says the Silas crouched on a cross-beam, mostly to himself.

    Silas smiles.

    "No shame in delegation, either."

  5. spacer.png"Good eye. Steady on, then," Brother Bruti says, his voice dropping lower. He draws his own bow and moves forward, positioning himself as a wing to Ehrlick's lead. He keeps his eyes peeled for signs of life, and motions for Kaspar and Caspian to follow in a loose formation.

  6. spacer.pngBrother Bruti would not consider himself an outdoorsman, but he certainly found himself there often enough that he could at least make use of his natural hypervigiliance and strong observational skills from time to time. Whether this is one of those times, as they, is in the hands of fortune, presuming Deus is too busy to hold everyone's hand all the time, which Leslus could understand.

"What would you say is the most likely? I hate to backtrack, but I hate going the wrong way just as much. My instinct is to try the eastern shortcut, but I cannot be sure. How far back whence we came would we even stop searching?"

Brother Bruti scans the area himself, hoping to catch something that helps inform his decision but failing utterly to do so.

Silas blinks with a wry smirk on his face as Teacher Ot begins the orientation. He listens attentively to Kaikara before speaking up himself, his voice a thing of rumbling honey.

"Silas Foljet, Teacher Ot. Truth be told I am here because all the Foljets are sent here. No doubt you've met some of my elders already, though if you are expecting another aspiring arch-mage you may be disappointed. My talent and passion - magically-speaking, of course," he adds with an upward twitch of the eyebrows, "Is thaumaturgy. If I must be here - and to be perfectly clear my enrollment was not my idea - then I will fulfill my obligations in that pursuit. As to what I've done for Magaambya, nothing at all, although I do bring a certain style and sophistication to the place. My family, however, are longtime patrons of the academy. I believe we have a library and some sort of wing or tower or what-have-you with our name on it. Possibly some benches."

    Silas shrugs and smiles good-naturedly.

"I don't care for the atmosphere but I do care to master my craft and wring every bit of worth from my 'sentence' here, so to speak. I may even entertain the possibility that Magaambya is more than a networking opportunity for the rich and magical."

Silas raises his eyebrows at Jorlin's expository effluence.

"Marvelous!" he grins. "Can't say that I have much of a preference myself as to construction materials, I tend to focus on what things do or can be made to do. Swords and scrolls and sticks and stones, all might contain secrets and power."

"Thaumaturgy is a...let's call it a 'results-oriented' field. The methodology is almost entirely anecdotal and is intuited rather than 'properly' trained, which is right up my alley, although the Foljet name requires of me that I attend our prestigious alma mater here and learn the standard curriculum," he continues, rolling his eyes mischievously, which causes them to fall upon MAX and his operator Radio.

"Now just what is that? Silas Foljet, by the way, pleased to make your acquaintance," he says pleasantly to the newcomers as he looks the metal man up and down. He raises (or perhaps lowers) his gaze towards Radio. "It looks like a golem, but it's...mechanical? Clockwork or something of the sort? Fascinating."

  9. spacer.pngLeslus downs about a third of his coffee without registering how hot it is, thanks the innkeeper with an obliging nod and plods stoically over to join Kaspar and Ehrick's table, putting his plate down noisily.

"Provisions? What, you run out of rope?" he deadpans sardonically, picking up his fork and segmenting a sausage paired with a fried egg and baked beans. He shrugs and shakes his head. "They have food, at least. Caltrops, I dunno," he concludes with a mouthful of breakfast, as flatly as ever.

  10. So if the wagon came from the West, should we assume it went in through the western gate to get to the brewery and then followed the road through town, leaving through the east gate? Or did they intend to go back the way they came?

EDIT: I see the IC thread was updated as well, got it now. Bruti is already committed to trying to save the guy, so I think we're all in agreement

  11. I only mean that we're kinda using Lightbringer as a plot arrow and as Bruti's entry point to the party, so he's 'with' him until the party has a reason not to be (like if Lightbringer goes on ahead to see the Baron, for example, Bruti will go after Wortman/the goblins with the party regardless because he's already decided on it).

  12. spacer.pngThey didn't find out all that much, but it was enough to go on. Leslus was pretty confident that even a novice tracker could find a few goblins, and his companions looked capable enough. He slept, he dressed, and he prayed - or rather he mumbled to himself, mulling over half-thoughts about what magical aid he might need for the day as he unsuccessfully polished his armor, before leaving his room to locate coffee, breakfast, and the others, preferably in that order.

  13. I'm just thinking that in order of priority I'd put rescuing the guy over asking a possible business associate about him (unless we're assuming Wortman & co are dead already). So long as we don't take too much of an ass-kicking from the goblins (and I can always cast Prayer of Healing outside of battle even so), nothing to stop us from heading towards the Baron immediately after, especially if Lightbringer (and presumably Brother Bruti as well, unless the story points us in different directions) is headed there anyway. Can't hurt to meet the Baron with a notch in our belts.

  14. I suppose we only really need the gist of what we can figure out, unless there's a particularly suspicious NPC who attracts our attention. I'm just hoping to get the rough location of where the villager(s) would have been waylaid and anything about the goblins themselves we might find useful, like how many there might be or if they have some kind of structure or live in tunnels or caves or something, although that's probably a stretch

  15. spacer.pngBruti nods appreciatively to the barman.

"East, and just passing by. Overheard somebody went missing, goblin raiders and such, so me and my new friends here are going to bring them back. You know anything about this Wortman situation?" he asks, eyebrows raised over the rim of his mug.

Mealtime is a good time in Silas' opinion, although he would have greatly preferred if there were more than two of them in a day. Perhaps an open buffet, should he wish to nab himself a single bite of food every twenty minutes. Still, someone else made it, and that was a victory in itself. He smiles appreciatively as he receives his meal and slinks over to a nearby bench, taking a seat diagonally across from Jorlin.

"How goes it, Jorlin? What's new in the world of beasts and botanists?" he says with a smile.
