  3. spacer.pngBrother Bruti narrows his eyes at the mention of the Dark Lord of Kolia.

"Did this Dark Lord's trail that led you to Anchorhead? Sounds like the sort of individual I might need to have a conversation with."

He scratches his nose with a thumb (his thumb, specifically), pressing his lips together in such a way that his mouth seemed to disappear into his whiskers momentarily.

"Duel first, though," he says flatly, looking sidelong at Kaspar. "I'll fix you up if you take a beating but I'm no miracle-worker. Try not to get stabbed too bad."

Brother Bruti nods as he takes in the situation. He turns first towards Kaspar.

"I'm...something of a roving agent of the Church. Was in the area, ran into Lightbringer, figured I'd see if there was work to be done."

He shrugs, looking towards Ehrick next.

"Seems there is. I gather the mission is to escort the woman, but somehow you're friend has talked himself into dueling what I am assuming is a well-equipped and well-trained noble of some sort. That about right?"

  5. Brother Leslus Bruti

    spacer.png

Brother Leslus Bruti, overhearing the commotion among Lightbringer and the newcomers, plods over to the assemblage and announces his presence with a scratchy clearing of the throat. Standing a bit under six feet with a thick beard and weather-beaten skin beneath his apparel, it is immediately obvious from the embroidery on his robes that he is an agent of the Church; the unusual styling would mark him as a member of the Eastern Orthodox order, as would the somewhat exotic blade he carried at his side. His armor was simple but sturdy and lacked the gleaming mirror-like appearance of Lightbringer's plate; aside from the trappings of his faith he looked very much like an infantryman or, perhaps more accurately, a sellsword.

He lifts his chin as he catches the group's attention, with a quick nod to Lightbringer implying some sort of familiarity.

"Some kind of trouble on the way? Thought I caught talk of a duel."

  6. rolls for HP and gold (Cleric w/ 13 CON) down there somewhere

    Iustitio Ex Deo

    spacer.png

    "Knock it off."

    Name: Brother Leslus Bruti

Race: Human (variant, Eastern Sidonian Empire)

    Class: Cleric (War Domain)

    Background: Acolyte

    Snapshot

Brother Leslus Bruti is frank, soft-spoken, and a little too serious. Driven to service mostly due to his consternation over the unnecessary - and, worse, impractical - evils of the world, Leslus has always been too much of a realist to enlist as a rank-and-file soldier and too terse and impatient for priestly work. Leslus stands just a little over average height with a medium build and the posture of someone who has been waiting in line for too long. Always the pragmatist, Leslus confronts evil with righteous annoyance and looks for cures and solutions, not palliative or temporary measures. Underneath his skeptical stare he is an honest friend and companion, a fair dealer, a true believer in doing the work of Deus where others cannot, and someone who genuinely cares for his people, even if he doesn't particularly want to stick around and chat with them.

    History and Backstory:

Born into an unremarkable family that owned a small restaurant in the Eastern Sidonian Empire, Leslus Bruti joined the Church as a young man after a few fruitless (and smoke-filled) seasons in the kitchen, done mostly at his parents' behest. Leslus did not and will likely never have any talent for cookery, nor did he exhibit any particular creative inspiration or passion as a child. If anything, Leslus came across as somewhat recalcitrant, preferring not to exert undue effort when more sensible solutions were to be found and having a somewhat narrow view of what might be considered 'important' enough for him to act at all. Despite this, young Master Bruti was nothing if he was not capable. Never the biggest, strongest, fastest, or most skilled or academic, Leslus always strove to find clever and efficient ways of dealing with problems, and his combination of decent reflexes and good instincts as well as a healthy natural skepticism and bullheaded stubbornness have made him an individual who gets results, even if his methods are ad hoc.

Joining the Church was an easy and obvious decision. Leslus liked peace and order. He liked when things made sense, and when people kept their hands to themselves. And deep down, Brother Bruti truly cares about people and wants them to be safe and happy. In a world of indecisiveness and petty cruelties, Leslus is a problem-solver. A man with the heart of a lion and the personality of a rhinoceros, Leslus will risk life and limb to safeguard any and all of Deus' children. He just doesn't necessarily like them all that much, necessarily.

    Preferred Play Style:

I like a solid amount of combat but a good story is more important, one that we figure out together especially. I value a sense of progression, be it by killing bandits or solving puzzles or whatever, and it doesn't necessarily have to be XP or magic items. I like puzzle-solving and open-ended problems that can be solved in creative ways. I like consequences to actions and narrative consistency, and I like to strategize with my fellow players. I tend to view the GM as a fellow player as well, just one with a different role. I don't do a lot of 'inner monologue' stuff but that's ust my preference as a writer.

    Game Expectations:

Mostly I want to have fun collaboratively telling a story and solving problems. I guess I'm also planning to learn the intricacies of the Baldr site in greater detail as I play. As far as the campaign itself, I'm hoping to get a little mystery/detective action as well as exploring and fighting, and I like when the story narrative and party interaction gives a chance for some character development. I don't like to make the game all about me and I hope the atmosphere is very team-oriented.

    Favorites and such:

I don't know that I have a favorite type of story, I like many styles and genres as long as the material is good and I'm in a good group. I do have a thing for the old AD&D-type modules where one adventure was kind of in its own world, and you'd take a part that just finished the Tomb of Whatever and then, bang, the next adventure is in Analogue-Egypt, and then they end up in Ravenloft, that kind of thing, using the same character through progressive adventures.

  7. Hey, wanted to say thanks for the invite. Had a bit of a crazy weekend but I'll have my first post up later today, just need to read through the IC thread and get caught up on the story thus far.

  8. I've always felt the Monk is an odd fit for the standard-ish high fantasy settings because they lean so heavily into Asian/Eastern fantasy tropes and mythology. Credit to Pathfinder 1e for giving us the Brawler, which was super fun and much less setting-specific by virtue of being a true martial and not having any mystical power sources.

  9. Gotcha. I'm ok with calling the scimitar something else like a gladius or spatha if we like the Roman style, or an arming sword, I just didn't want a piercing weapon and 5e insists short swords are thrust-only. 'World-weary' is his personality, the way some people just have a slight air of 'grumpy old man' even when they're young. Experience-wise, as a Level 3 character I'm figuring he's been on 'active duty' for a year or two; not a rookie, but nowhere near a seasoned vet.

  10. Still WIP, sheet is up-to-date with all the important stuff, just need to put together the stats and such for the spoiler tags

Link to my character sheet-in-progress is right here

Also rolls for HP and gold (Cleric w/ 13 CON) down there somewhere

I will use the format below (with some adjustments I imagine) for posting if accepted to the game, feedback welcome

  11. I was thinking of a War Domain Cleric, I like a little extra toughness in a small party. Is there a region or denomination that would best fit (or not fit at all) with that lore-wise? Building a human, figured being a Sidonian feels the most natural if he's a holy warrior of sorts, employed by the church to protect the common people and put himself in danger in their stead, should the need arise. If the church has a hierarchy or system or ranks I would want to know what his would be. Acolyte, Comrade-at-Arms? Not important but I am curious.

  12. I've been gone for a long time and now I see we've got a whole new site and whatnot. Hopefully I can get myself up to speed on the coding stuff quickly. Cooking up a character right now, just wanted to check who/what is already in the party as I didn't see a Roster thread (although maybe I just didn't find it yet)

EDIT: found the thread, but it looks like only 2 party members are still active?
