The sound of hands firmly coming down on the table they were sharing interrupted Star from going on further, the attention going to the source. Fists were closed on the heavy wood, Temperance standing as she tilted her head forward, yellow eyes piercing over the rims of her glasses at the younger nephilim. "Enough."

Her jaw set, the blonde spoke through her teeth as she seemed to focus on her breathing as she spoke, taking much effort to keep her tone level.

"You're not going to win any favors by spitting in the face of those around you. Particularly if they are genuinely trying to find a way to make your ideas work. Kjersti is trying to find a way for you, Rexus is literally offering a solution to your goal and a better one than you could hope at this time. If you can't see that and be open to the ideas, then you're in the wrong line of work."

Retrieving her mug of overly sweetened coffee, the nephilim turned and started to head for the room. "I've said what was needed and will leave it there. Perhaps when you Vlishtati grow up you will see that not everyone is against you."

Without another word, Temperance left, leaving the three of them alone.

Cecilia groaned, seeing stars as she clambered up from her sprawled position on the floor. No doubt there would be a bruise on her forehead later, and her sense of smell was completely overwhelmed by the pungent aroma of garlic. Holding her stomach, the Taldane staggered to her feet, trying to wipe the oil from her eyes with her sleeve.

"Nnh, grubby little buggers. Come and sit what's coming to you!" Ringing the bell vigorously in her hand, the human stepped to the side, providing the pugwampi a direct path back to the hatch...

Gathered around the tables with the others, Temperance nursed a mild scowl at the information that was presented. The gravity of the information's importance was not lost on her. The more observant of those present, new and old, could see a visible eye twitch at the mention that it was the Asmodean Church, arms crossed as she kept her mouth shut.

Eyeing the key as Kjersti picked it up, the nephilim stood, rolling her neck a little in a stretch as she took in a slow, deep breath.

"Either way, we have our mission. We have a number of routes to crack into this shell...hmm." Thinking it over, the blonde brought her hand to her chin, closing her eyes in thought. "A layout would help but I doubt most of us would change our tactics knowing that beforehand. No. Anything to weaken them beforehand would be beneficial. Less nails to hammer, to put a phrase"

The sidelong glance to Kjersti from Temperance was brief, but not admonishing. Despite her conservative tendencies towards asset management, the opinion of the proposed arrangement seemed fair. The blonde made a mental note to keep an eye for opportunities to pass along, should they arise.

3282.jpg.76e38e13a8b503e853e5d8086e9bd84c.jpg"At least two, now." Reaching into her coat, the nephilim seemed to produce her own sidearm out of nowhere, the three barreled pepperbox held deftly in her hands. Immediately, the differences between the two arms are clear, pointing out the style differences between Alkenstari and Chelish make. Forgoing brass, Temperance's own featured longer barrels and additional metal fittings in the handle, not to mention the differences in the action already indicated, the hammer a blunt end and the ignition ports narrow for the percussion cap to fit onto.

Pointing the barrels down first, then opening the hammer to show that the firearm wasn't primed, Temperance offered the momentary trade in kind, taking the Alkenstari pepperbox with her other hand. Fingers gently passed over the engraving work, eyes taking in the compact design, the octagonal rifling, the subtle differences in the barrel rotation. Interest and appreciation filled her expression as she looked up at the gunslinger.

"Astounding. So this is Alkenstari make...truly an art form. I thank you for letting me see and appreciate this piece."

"You didn't. Temperance." The nephilim's measured voice broke the silence as she slid up beside Kjersti, her serious demeanor only broken up by the height difference between the two Ravens.

She did object to Kjersti traveling Unarmed but relented. For all appearances, she herself looked the same, thanks to a certain ring, but Kjersti likely knew that at least the new pepperbox was stowed and readily available.

Glancing at the decanter, Temperance would lift a hand, politely dismissing the offer as she found some crates to lean on, tail flicking under her coat as she crossed her arms in front of her chest.

"This one can lay out how Jills and Ravens can interact. I'm here for insurance. And personal. Assuming you still use flint on your hammer, and was curious if you'd be inclined to switch to something more reliable"

The first breach into the storeroom felt confident. They had the tools. They had a plan. The plan was enacted. The distraction went off without a hitch. Moving with confidence, the Taldane went the opposite direction of Ras, hoping to snap up more of the gremlins before they recovered.

As she leapt up to grab at the southernmost, she hopped up, intending to spring off a barrel on the way for more height. However, it seemed the barrel was about a few inches off from where she observed, and her foot slipped off the edge of it as she pressed her weight down.

"Ack!"  Pitching forward, the human smacked her head forward onto the shelf, scrambling to right herself.

Temperance listened intently, tilting her head gently to one side as her eyes fell on the mark. At an appropriate moment, delicate fingers traced a couple of the lines. "Or perhaps you are your goddess's vision that you fail to notice. Time will tell."

Another lingering moment and the Nephilim broke away, nodding her head to the tall farmgirl. "I do have quite a bit to accomplish as well as a meeting. The distraction was...pleasant though. Thank you"

Turning to her work, the blonde picked up her pen, starting to scribble on the ledger once more. As Kjersti got up to leave, Temperance spoke up once more, eyes not looking up from her work. "I won't object to more, though, perhaps later?"

The words fall upon Temperance and seem to have the intended effect. Eyes remaining closed, her knit brow relaxes as she breathes, jaw starting to unclench as she rode out her roiling emotions...or further suppressed them, that was difficult to say.

The mention of Temperance's reasoning for her name caused the corner of her mouth to twitch slightly, curling upwards fleetingly before she opened her eyes. "One of two gifts I took with me, the name. A reminder" Leaving it at that, the nephilim turned again to her sugary offering, finding it mostly consumed by now.

Finishing it off, she turned again on the farmgirl, thinking about what she said, eyes falling on the rose imprint on her arm. "...You seem to carry that reminder as well...your stigmata. Your faith is enviable. Admirable. Time will see if it serves you well."

"...As for what it's worth...what I've accomplished here would not have happened without the right...encouragement."

On the other side of the table, yellow eyes glanced up as Temperance listened to the conversation, working on her breakfast. Picking up her mug, the pitborn nephilim sipped at the overly sweetened and creamed coffee, the steam of the pale brown beverage filling her senses. It was a long moment as she paused, eyes trailing down as her brain worked through some things...calculating, processing.

    "...Thirty five."

After the out of context statement, the blonde glanced up at Kjersti, then focused on Star, yellow eyes giving direct attention.

"That is how many mouths ten sails will feed if you intend one basic meal a day for a month. Much less if you need to hire serving staff."

Temperance paused to take another sip, closing her eyes. "I'm not saying it is a poor idea. But having a basis of understanding the means required would not go amiss"

It was no mystery that the yellow eyes of Temperance wandered to the chained-rose imprint on Kjersti's arm every now and then. The wheels in her head were turning, and at a few moments it seemed as if she was going to bring it up to the farmgirl, only to stop. When the questions went back to her, the Nephilim's breath paused, cheeks flushing a little.

"...What is there to say? Westcrown.."

The words that followed seemed practiced, measured. "Westcrown is a jewel in the southern heart of Cheliax. A place of finery, innovation, industry, artistic renaissance, and commerce, second only to Egorian in Chelish tradition and custom."

Letting out her breath, a simmering rage undertoned the Pitborn's next words. "A center of decadence and corruption. Power fleeting and in flux, blood and souls serving as bread and circus. To step in the shadows meant to risk your being. To step out of line risk your life."

Taking a deep breath, clearly a practiced measure of centering, Temperance continued. "I saw much of the suffering from the outside, in my own Hell. Trained in servitude, given status only in appearance. A trophy, a novelty."

Her eyes narrowed, a cold seething underlying her expression. "The riot and revolt that burned half the central square gave me my opportunity to leave, and I haven't looked back." Temperance softened, sighing as she closed her eyes, lowering her head after taking a very long drink of the very hot, sweet beverage. "The energy in my breast...rage...boiling...Temper Temper...keep myself of use, focus on the good...can't lose the good..."

    The Rose of Kintargo

Since returning from rescuing the de facto leader of the Cloven Hoof Society, Temperance seemed to be working tirelessly on something. She made several trips outside of the Wasp's Nest (It needs a new name...) and the Longroads Coffeehouse, returning as quietly as she left. Whatever time she spent was more often in her workshop on some task or other, personal or for the Ravens. Otherwise, she was practicing and training with whomever occupying their base would permit, or running up what is likely the largest tab of coffee, hot cocoa, and baked goods that Laria has ever seen (if she is keeping track).

The biggest observed trend from the others, though, is that with each progressive day, the nephilim seemed to be in an increasingly sullen mood, growing quieter and more withdrawn with time.

When Kjersti dropped into her workspace to drop her weapon off, the strange three-barrel pepperbox Temperance had recently unveiled lay in pieces on the work desk, the nephilim currently running a cylindrical brush of brass through the bore of one of the barrels. Quirking a brow, the wordless exchange was enough to let the blonde know she was needed, and donning her longcoat followed the redhead upstairs.

Her spectacled yellow eyes peered intently as the figure revealed himself, and the introduction caused her to quirk a brow. This was a familiar face...this is the same man who designed the threads that she was wearing at this very moment. Straightening her white vest, Temperance also straightened her posture, dipping her head in a respectful nod. Hetamon was definitely a unique Hellspawn, and it made a Pitborn like her feel a little less out of place.

"You put the tailors of Westcrown to shame. You have me as a patron for certain" A flicker of a smile lit her features before the topic turned to more serious matters.

While most of the party was assumedly present (those that comprehended the conversation), even Temperance understood that the weight of connection lay with Maria, Hetamon, and Kjersti. Her eyes peered between the speaking parties, absorbing the weight of what was being shared, but keeping herself quiet.

Her mind turned as the information was shared, various revelations giving the blonde nephilim pause. "We will not forget this offer, nor will we back away from a need you request. We know where to find each other"

"...I would like that, yes" The offer to bring Temperance along actually managed to bring a smile to Temperance's face, the tiefling taking another sip of cocoa before setting the mug down, wiping a bit that stayed on her lip.

"The offer expired when a silver raven was placed in my hands."  Said simply, matter of fact, but the words carried the tiefling's conviction as she looked directly at Kjersti again. "It's no Westcrown, but much of the suffering in Kintargo is the same. I saw so much of it from a so-called gilded cage."  She paused, the observant noting that the blonde was catching herself from heating up by how she averted her gaze and held her breath for a beat.

"...As much as I tried to leave. This is nice" Allowing another smile, Temperance resumed her indulgence of the food provided. "And a good way to channel myself"

The baked confections placed between them was diminishing with certain rapidity as Temperance conversed with Kjersti, turning to give her full attention to the taller woman. Her coat was hung to the side, the tiefling simply wearing her breeches and blue linen shirt I'm the relative warmth of her workshop.

At the mention of the Red Jills, Temperance's tone was flat as she responded. "They will help. Or at least not get in our way." Said so matter of fact: some confidence likely stemming from the shared industry that Ada and Temperance were connected through.

A whisper of a smirk came on her lips as she took another bite, followed by another drink. "I have reason to now." Giving a long pause, she sat back, covering her mouth for a brief breath. "Ports are all but closed, and you...we need all the strength we can muster"

Fixing her glasses, Temperance's yellow gaze trailed up to meet Kjersti in the eyes, the half-eaten pastry momentarily abandoned. "We may not always be so lucky. But the odds have improved somewhat"

The wee hours before dawn was no stranger to work for Temperance, and this morning was no exception. Yellow eyes perused a few documents as she scribbled some notes, the desk the tiefling had claimed for herself strewn with a smattering of documents, drawings, and haphazard notes. As Kjersti approaches, she can make out a few of the images...schematics, likely for the tech that the tiefling had come to be known for. The forefront of her attention, though, seemed to be a ledger or record of some kind.

The short woman's nose sniffed quietly as the aroma of the offering, tail flicking in curiosity as she sat up straight in her chair. Blinking slowly, she kept facing forward as the farmgirl offered the tray, head tilted slightly as she processed the arrival. No urgency nor stress...at least there's that.

Temperance's chest rose and fell slowly as she took a deep, centering breath, her hand drifting over to the fork as she used it to cut a sizable bite of pastry, bringing it to her lips and consuming it hungrily. "Not long. Early start" The fact it was also a late night was left unspoken as she turned slowly to face Kjersti, several more bites passing her lips before she partook of the sweet liquid cocoa.

"Someone has to keep things straight, might as well be me. We won't gain any ground otherwise." Gesturing to the ledger, it was clear she was referring to this fledgling organization's assets. Another bite, another sip. "Still calm since our little rescue?"

The battle finished for the time being, Temperance strode casually onto the main area, boots clicking on stone as her hands reloaded the spent barrels on her new pepperbox. She paid no mind to the fallen, instead watching as Kjersti manages to dismantle the torture display. As Maria tended to Star, the shorter tiefling turned to the taller Zea, offering a hand to help her up and get her moving.

"No time to waste" was all that the blonde muttered as she started back the way they came. She only paused to see Deadman mourning one of the dogs, her brow slightly raised. Behind her expression, deep waters rolled, but her usual coldness showed as she pushed for their exeunt.

With the majority of her compatriots (Kyla excepted) advanced into the main point of contestation, Temperance followed suit, her boots clicking on the stone as she made it to the joining path. Her grip adjusted, right hand taking the rifle in the middle as she held it relaxed, barrel pointed away and not ready to fire.

Her left hand went to the small of her back, gripping the handle of her newest armament. Drawing it, the flash of sunlight on gunmetal signaled the appearance of the new Firearm. Smalller, handheld, a trio of barrels aligned on a plate rotating around the firing action, the trademark caplock tech present.

Pointing the pepperbox forward, the tiefling's eyes narrowed at the goon behind Deadman, squarely discharging a shot into the back of their head before pulling the hammer again, rotating the barrels to rapidly send a follow up retort to the remaining perpetrator...

As the vulgar display was underway, and one of the goons decided to taunt their victim, a lone silver raven alighted next to it, perching on a branch of the surrounding shrubbery. A single, pristine caw came out of its beak as it disrupted the otherwise silent tormenting.

In the back corner, the blonde tiefling's eyes were wide open, nostrils flared as Temperance set her jaw forward, lips pursed as she took in a deep breath. Without a word, her arm went back, twirling the rifle into existence from her shoulder as she brought it up to sight.

A loud peal, and the goon nearest Professor suddenly found a hole in its chest, and the one guarding the nearest path was soon to follow. Without any retort, taunt, or outward show of emotion whatsoever, the tiefling began her advancing assault...

Temperance followed suit, her posture impassive as the terms of the new mission became clear. Only the most observant of the other Ravens would spot the slight twitch to her eye and brow, yellow eyes piercing as she looked in the general direction they were pointed.

"It's never simple" Was all the tiefling muttered as she fixed the collar of her leather longcoat, adjusting the invisible rifle strap across her shoulder. Reaching into her pocket with a free hand, she pulled out a small object, bringing it to her lips with a whisper.

With a flutter, Professor came to rest upon her shoulder, a dignified expression on its face as the gunslinger started walking with purpose.

Looking very much like the cat whom ate the canary on the way back to the University, Cecilia found herself filled with pride at her impromptu and clever means of ensuring that their mission was a success. So much so that she didn't mind the myriad bags of trinkets, decorations, and numerous indulgences that she had procured for herself and had to carry the whole way back. Dropping such off, the Taldan spent much of the evening cavorting with her fellow classmates, making a middling show of cards until finally retiring fairly late into the night.

The following morning, Cecilia overslept, again, making her late to the meeting, again. A sweetroll was dangling from her lips as she rushed to the meeting spot, another in hand as she regained her breath, catching up on what the assignment was this particular time. "Gremlins, hm? Shouldn't be too difficult to rein them in. Which storage room do we -mmph- have to go to?"

  24. After confirming that Grimburrow does hold a weekly mass on Sundays, the party departs back to the midday light of outside. Deciding to return to follow Althea's lead on the trail leading away from the vandalism, the long walk gives Keydas a reminder that the old wizard had given them a suggested location to await the hupia after nightfall. It's a winding path, having to find a way across the river to backtrack, but with a little time they make it back to where the trail had initially gone cold.

After a little time (and personal inward unease from Althea), the trail that was initially found is found again. With a degree of meticulous patience, the dueling student follows the subtle signs of disturbance: not quite tracks, but evidence of something interrupting the natural flow of the long brush and grass.

The trail follows east, crisscrossing the stream a couple of times before departing directly east. From there it is not too far before it leads to a structure...a small dwelling, little more than a shack...

"Jorfa is...not related to Harrowstone itself, but she is inarguably the oldest resident of Ravengro, and has been the smithy for the last century. Keeps to herself, mostly."

"The professor did come here for some inquiries..mostly about Harrowstone, so you can understand my trepidation given the location of his untimely passing."

"A hupia...i had heard such a rumor, but I had dismissed Alendru's theories as mad ravings. But, if you believe it worth pursuing I won't stop you. It is, after all, Ustalav, and the chances of some manner of undead are never zero. Here...a gesture of good faith. If it is needed, you can compensate the Temple after. If not, it can be given back without issue."
