  1. Option 2 it is. I'll update the post.
  2. Correct. It should say that on the map. 1 square = 10 feet.
  3. It would be a different beast than PbP here on the Weave but it might be interesting if you had a GM and players that were all artistically inclined. It seems like you'd have to make each package worth the shipping cost. Maps, artwork, and player responses done on nice paper... it would be interesting to see what the right group could do with that format. But a lost package could be a tragedy!
  4. I've got Three Hearts and Three Lions and it's on my reading list for this year, but that's as far as I've gotten.
  5. I think we have two potential solutions. The first is to use the Labyrinth Lord system rather than the BFRPG system to turn undead. Converting 2D6 to 1d20 involves a different probability distribution, and a -1 in that paradigm isn't equivalent to that on a D20 roll. Alternatively, we can use the BFRPG table and change the -1 to a -2. That still works out slightly in your favor, but it's a slight difference that preserves the intent of the original module. I'm leaning toward the second option, but I'll open it up for a quick discussion.
  6. That's a good question. The standard door in Barrowmaze is made of thick wood, swollen with moisture. Many will be stuck—most open inward (better for kicking).
  7. Hmm... I forgot the two systems are different. Let me think on that.
  8. Malice Approaches Malice curses and snarls as she approaches the end of the tunnel. First, you hear her talking to whoever is with her. "The filthy little mongrels are probably waiting to ambush us at the tunnel. Get ready!" Next, she calls out to all of you. "Oh yoo-hoo! Hello up there! We're coming for you, you lazy kitchen rats! Time to get back to work! We've got some nice innocent guests coming, and I just know you'll make the best stew out of them. Have you started to remember what you've done yet? Oh, you will! If you live long enough!" Doorfin Malice is close. Now is the time to try to catch her a few feet inside the mouth of the tunnel. Or, you can let her come to you. Letting her get to the mouth of the tunnel will allow your companions to join the fight better, but if you step inside, Malice will be less able to avoid you. What do you do?
  9. Sorry, east. I'll correct the post.
  10. Yes, or after leaving Barrowmaze for a few hours.
  11. That dread sensation Serpe is getting has an in-game effect. In Barrowmaze, the power that is waking the dead is pervasive. It makes turning undead more difficult. While inside the dungeon, you'll have to use a modified turn undead table, which I will add to the setting topic. In addition, reaching beyond that dark power to call upon Arcantryl will wear Serpe out. Every time he uses turn undead, he will take a cumulative -1 for each additional attempt.
  12. Serpe That oppressive sensation is everywhere down here, and you think you finally recognize it. While training as a cleric, the senior priests would use a dark artifact to animate the corpses of hanged criminals so you and the other chosen acolytes could practice turning them. You only did it twice, but you remember the feeling of dread that filled you watching a dead body stand and walk. That same dread is what you feel here. Only it's amplified and nearly tangible. But you're no coward. It's not the fear that bothers you; it's the sensation that the energy somehow blocks your connection to your goddess. It's not entirely blocked, but it feels filtered. Like a pale orb of sunlight glimpsed behind dark clouds. What evil could stand against the might of Arcantryl? Whatever it is seems to call this place home. ** See OOC.
  13. You all climb down the ropes and into the vaulted chamber. You prepare your torches and lanterns and look around. The frescoes are time-worn and depict a burial procession leading to what looks like a barrow mound. Below one section of the frescoes, you find the words "Pullo was here" written on the wall in charcoal. The footprints seem to have been made by several people, all wearing boots. They lead to the hallway and continue for a few feet, but the floor gets rougher beyond that point, and the prints become impossible to follow. The skeletons in the room have all been picked over. Seeing nothing else of interest in the room, you form a marching order and head into the hall, Dougal prodding the floor ahead of you at every step. After twenty feet, you reach an intersection. You can either continue straight ahead (east) or turn to the north. To the left, the hallway ends at a door after thirty feet. The main hall extends to the east beyond the reach of your light. There are closed doors along the south wall and additional intersections. It would be very easy to get lost here. What do you do?
  14. Awesome, I was going to ask you guys to update the marching order. You're ahead of the game. So: torches 1 hour. Let's be optimistic and say lanterns last four hours to make it easier to track.
  15. I honestly believe that the important thing is that people are putting forth a good-faith effort but that doesn’t mean it can’t go comically wrong. Have any of you seen an 80s show or cartoon that tried to be inclusive lately? Oh man… it’s just… I mean, I know we had to start somewhere but my god. So bad, All we can do is our best, I suppose.
  16. That was a major concern for me in that game because, well, first of all, I didn’t want to be that guy and secondly because one of my players was from Singapore and of Chinese descent. Not being Asian, I’m not sure how I did. Hopefully less than awful but I’m not confident about it. Then again, I probably role play my own ancestors just as poorly.
  17. You're in for a treat. It's fantastic.
  18. I watched Aliens for probably the 829th time last night. I continue to regard it as an absolute masterclass in screenwriting and filmmaking for sci-fi action movies. It's also one of the best dungeon crawls in movie history, albeit a sci-fi dungeon. The xenomorphs as a species are also one of the great monsters of movie history. In short, Aliens should be required viewing for all game masters. If you've never watched it through that lens (or if somehow you've never seen it) Grab some popcorn and sit back while James Cameron shows you how it's done.
  19. There are some great recommendations in here. You guys are building a new Appendix N. What about for the new GMs, though? They should probably have something a little more actionable, no?
  20. Here we go, everybody. Almost 1000 posts in, and we've finally come to what you signed up for, one of the most infamous dungeons in the entire hobby. Good luck!
  21. Thomas You find footprints leading off to the east. They seem recent but you're not sure exactly how recent. They could have been left yesterday or a week ago.
  22. , it's instant. No training is required.
