Traits

NG, Medium, Elf, Human, Humanoid

Appearance

A tall young man with long black hair and brown eyes that dart this way and that taking in all around him, but when focused on an individual they sparkle with humor. While about town, Th'eras carries himself with head high, and his soft robes he wears well-kept.

Personality

For the most part, Th'eras puts on a serious demeanor, but at heart he is an outgoing and friendly young man. However Th'eras sometimes lapses into an introverted and grumpy mood when he has failed at something he believed he could do well. At that point, Ther’al has to step away and force himself to indulge in social interactions. This tends to shake him out of whatever mood he is in and has him quickly back to his jovial self.

Background

The earliest time Th'eras remembers, is one involving cold weather, warm fires, and he face of his mother. He recalls living in a place of ice and snow in a community of people like his mother. He was just beginning to learn to speak at that time, and only understood that the community was one for 'elves'. The next couple of years, he thought of himself as an elf. These were happy years, but a bit tough as hunting and gathering parties returned with less and less each year. Even though there was the difficulties, these were still happy times however, but they were not to last. Before he knew it, he and his mother were journeying south and east, in search of (as his mother told him) his father. For months they travelled, through all manner of terrain until they crossed the Mana Wastes and arrived at the city of Alkenstar.

It was not long after their arrival that Th'eras, at the age of six, found himself alone on the streets. His mother had been killed by thugs and dumped in the streets. They had ignored him, thinking he wouldn't be long for the world. He managed to survive though, and managed to thrive. The daily struggle met it end on the day he managed to steal some fresh food from a blacksmith's family. While he was devouring his treasure, several other thugs surrounded him to take it. He began fighting, but the numbers were a bit much and he felt blow after blow. Just before he passed out, he saw the female dwarf blacksmith fire a shot from a gun into the alley wall next to the leader's head. Without hesitation, the gang fled, leaving the smith to kneel beside Th'eras and check on the young man.

When he awoke, amazingly it was to a new life. The smith hadn't held it against Joral for taking the food, only admonished him that if he'd asked the smith would have given him that and more. Feeling guilty, Th'eras asked to stay to help the woman out with chores for a few days. In the end, Th'eras stayed for years. Over the time, he learned about smithing and metals as well as how to construct the guns that made Alkenstar a place for business. However, not only did the smith teach him to make the weapons, she taught him to use them as well as how to defend himself without any weapons at all. The entire relationship made Th'eras feel like he actually did have a mother again, and the feeling of mother to son also was the feeling of the smith to Th'eras.

The family feeling ended as abruptly as it began however when the smith left to meet an associate outside of the city proper to help investigate a series of attacks on caravans nearby. As the woman had been doing the same in the past, Th'eras didn't think much of it. When he was awoken by the feeling of tragedy his mind changed. Unsure of what he was feeling, he spent days in a bit of a mood. When a package was delivered to him from the smith, he knew what put him in a mood. The package contained a letter and a journal partially covered in blood. The last entry in the journal was made in the hand of someone else, talking about an ambush on the smith's arrival at the meeting place. As Th'eras debated what to do with that information, the door was bashed in as several shieldmarshals burst in to arrest him, announcing they had warrants for his arrest as an acomplice in the robbery and murder of the group of individuals that included his mentor and mother-figure.

Fighting his way free, grabbing the box holding his "mother's" favorite dueling pistol, and using all the skills that had allowed him to survive as a youth, Th'eras fled, losing his pursuers and giving himself breathing room for figuring out his next step. As he investigated, he heard rumors that not only was the warrant signed by Deputy Anjelique Loveless, but they they had been involved in the actual crime he himself was accused of. In hiding and trying to come up with a plan for avenging his family, word reached Th'eras of a job to rob the Gold Tank Reserve, one of the sources of illegal funds to the Deputy and her associates. Intrigued, and with only a few silver remaining in his pouch, he worked his way toward the Bullet & Barrel Saloon to learn more.

@Laird_Thorne, thanks for sending in an app.

Th'eras' backstory roots him firmly in the setting of Alkenstar. It also captures the common motifs of the city: violence, perseverance, and, of course, revenge. His tragedy gives him a strong motive to pursue the campaign hook in pursuit of those who wronged him.

Mechanically speaking, everything looks good. I'll go ahead and mark Th'eras as complete!
