Sam was looking forward to getting to something close to civilization again. When they finally arrived at the small hamlet, he was not so sure there was any civilization, but it was still better than bouncing around in that cart, which in turn was better than walking the whole way, so he didn't dare complain.

When they arrived, some of his companions jumped right into conversations with the inhabitants of one of the houses. Sam chose to remain outside and see who and what was in this little cluster of humanity.

Hello friend, Sam called to a passer-by who was eyeing the newcomers. We're just passing through on our way to Mosswood. I hear some strange things have been going on down there.
