Book 1 - Cape of Stars

The three compatriots sat at a long table in the communal building of the village Zambezi. Hot and humid but with at least a breeze, they still felt they were better off than they had been yesterday. 

The warm and deep voice came from the man with the eyes of a scientist but the body of a gorilla. 7ft tall and covered in dark black fur, not yet having gone grey with age. “My friends, let’s rest here a moment before continuing. That last adventure… harrowing…”

 

A high and tight voice came from an exhausted Anubin, sitting in front of him “Whatever you say boss. Just glad we made it this far. I knew I was rolling the dice when I decided to travel with you, but this is a lot.”

 

The final friend, human with brown skin and long hair and wild eyes, spoke with a haunted voice “Sure. It doesn’t matter. We have time. Let’s gather our strength and figure out the next steps from here.”

The trio sits in silence for a moment sipping their fermented brews before speaking again.

Maso, the Lemurian and their leader, speaks after they have some time to decompress. “The intel we got brought us here to Zambezi. Of course it may or may not brought some others… but that’s as far as the info brings us.” He looks at Lypera the Anubis and Khulna making eye contact. Meaningful eye contact. 
 

“So… now let’s talk next moves. Do we split up for a bit and go search for information. Or stick together?”

After some talking amongst themselves and strategizing, the three split up.  As this is a small village on the east coast of Gondwana, there is not a very great distance to go to spread out.  The city center, the docks, the market and the huts where people sleep are the only areas.  Maso stays in the city center, Lypera checks the dos and Khulna, the market.


Maso - The Engineer
Maso dismisses the others to do their investigating and goes to speak to the host of this long house, this meeting place, they are currently in.  It's a small old woman named, Chaka, and he speaks with her (Ignore).  Try as he might though, he cannot get her to give him a response.  Is it because he's a stranger? A lemurian? He doesn't know.

In fact, almost everyone he speaks with ignores him or is only tersely civil before leaving.

Trio

After some talking amongst themselves and strategizing, the three split up.  As this is a small village on the east coast of Gondwana, there is not a very great distance to go to spread out.  The city center, the docks, the market and the huts where people sleep are the only areas.  Maso stays in the city center, Lypera checks the docks and Khulna, the market.

Mask - Engineer

Lypera headed to the docks as they were. A few small piers surrounded by fishing boats and people.  He asks around, finding no leads.

Khulna - The Mage

Khulna goes to the market.  The market is dusty and flat.  Sparse wares of fruit and meat are arranged on carpets on the ground with umbrellas for shade.  Wary vendors watch the wild haired man as ambles through. A prickling of heat, his instincts, tell him to ask a certain person about any leads.  Alas, he comes up empty

Trio

After conferring, Maso determines there is only one place left to go to investigate.  The huts of the elderly and infirm.  There, they may find the lead they need.

Rolls for this

 

The trio go hut to hut, looking in and around, trying to find someone who can help them.  Evenually they do.  An old wise lady.

The speak with her, initially disturbing her, raising her ire and making her hostile due to Maso's interrogative style of asking questions.  Luckily, Khulna can calm the situation, soothing her a bit.  Eventually, she opens up them.  Questioning their motives, but alos worried for thier safety.  Eventually, she aquiesces and tells them that the Cape of Stars was last heard of when she was a child.  Some set of ruins in the north west was said to hold them.  By following the river until it ran out, then heading straight nrth.  That would be how to find it.

The men thank her, then turn to exit the village of Zambezi.

Trio

The group travels the veldt, sticking close to the river as instructed. They march all day, a full ten hours at a nice pace.

Nothing I asked the oracle if the attack happens while traveling. It said no...

happens while on the road. Lypera the Anubim keeps the group talking and discussing the future. He's very invested in Maso's dream of an a place of learning and safety. A place to scientifically analyze magic items and see what the science can tell them. Khulna thinks this is a fool's errand and suspects that magic is magic and science is science and the two have no place meeting. A rivalry fuelled discussion lasts the day until camp is

made 17 was rolled. That's a success.

. Night falls on the group. As Lypera takes his watch, he hears a shuffling coming out of the dark and seemingly approaches the light of their fire. He focuses his eyes in time to wake the others. To thier horror... 6 shambeling human bodies appear at the outer ring of light, the only sounds emanating from them beign the sounds of gasses escaping. Dark skin falls from them, rotting off of their bone and muscle...

 

What next

Find the data for zombies figure out how to assign weapons do some combat

Trio

Khulna and Maso rub the sleep from thier eyes as the adrenaline wakes them. Hands clutch around weapons while Lypera barks a war cry and ruhes the skeletons. He attacks the first one he gets to, seemingly a weak one. They Gladius swings through the air, biting into the skeleton, cleaving clavicle and ribs but not putting the creature down. Maso fires his gas pellet gun (Bringr) at the horde. The pellet glances off a rib, doing about half as much damage as he’d seen before. The rig chips and fractures a little, but doesn’t shatter. Khulna simultaneously takes a few steps forward and extends his right hand. Light shines from each finger, quickly focusing in front of him. The beam coalesces on one of the skeletons ahead of him and lances through it. The beam doesn’t seem as effective as Khulna had found it in practice. Unfortunately, in the time it has taken to fire the initial volley, the skeletons have closed in. Maso and Khulna, being range fighters, have more space. Lakers does what he always has done, and draws the attention of 4 of the skeletons as they try to pass. Lypera has 4 skeletons on him, Khulan and Maso , 1 each. The Skeleton attacking Maso, misses while the one attacking Khulna bites him. Lypera parries the attacks coming at him. Two bites are deflected off the shield while a bite makes it through. But the bite is weak.

Trio

Grunts and yelps of pain come from the mouths of the e living as they reorient and counter attack. Lypera strikes back out with his Gladius. The blade cleaves through one of the skeletons, the reanimated corpse falling to the ground lifeless. The flat of the blade hits another, causing some damage. Maso fires twin shots off into the shambling mounds facing him and Khulna. He knows that Lypera can watch out for himself. Both shots hit the animated skeletons in the head, driving them both to the ground. Khulna takes advantage of his adversary being on the ground in front of him, and with a hoot, he drives his quarterstaff, point first, into its skull. Cracking it and allowing the foul and corrupt Vril to leave the skeleton.

Trio

The skeleton at the feet of Maso rises up and swipes at him, while Maso takes a step back, the scrape barely missing his face.

The skeleton falls at Lypera sinking teeth into his arm, getting around the armor. It’s not much more than a scratch though, as Lypera brushes the creature off.

The Trio makes short work of the last two skeletons. They breathe and pant, each fatigued in it’s own way. Maso from the stress, Lypera from the damage, and Khulna from exerting his magical will. They look at each other, then silently pack their belongings and keep moving toward their destination.

Scene

The Veldt. The sun rises above the horizon in the distance. Some sense of animal life can be seen on the horizon. Our Trio walks at a brisk pace continuing to follow the trail they believe will take them to the ruin. The lands are filled with wildfires though, and the group must get around those as well as dodge any shady characters or dangerous animals.

OOC

Recover from everything. 5+Con health. Fatigue. Rolls - Perception? - 19 Does anything happen? - “No and…” they find some treasure

Trio

 

The Trio tries to keep their senses about them and avoid being trapped by the wildfires or rampaging beasts. The crackle of smoldering grasses and leaves is pervasive along with the scent of fire, smoke and cooked meat.

They have no problem dodging fires and creatures as they make their way through the wasteland until they see their target. A crag on the side of a mountain. The resting place of the Cape of Stars.

The fires are behind them now and the ground beneath is solid. Maso says to the group with a relieved sigh. “We did it… made it through… those flames. That is crazy that wild fires are raging line that.” Lypera nods and adds “If we come back without this cape, then they’ll have us out in the fields trying to put the fire out. In order to save face and recoup money.” Khulna, dour as ever agrees with Lypera. “Well indentured servants or no, we need to get the Cape before Hypera does. Or else Maso’s old friend will make us pay dearly.” His voice is casual but singed with timidity when speaking of Hyspera.

Maso suggests the trio make camp tonight , then walk the last of the way to the mountain in the morning. So that’s what they do.

Roll for camp - The camp is fine Oracle for if something happens - No door or gate but something does happen here. It’s not a person waiting for us. It’s a Monstrous Spawn. Gets a sneak attack on us. Random number generator said -page 64 - Eloko.

Scene

At the foot of Munboia Tips and the Dolksang Abyss.

Rolls - Perception -10 for Camoflaged Ekolo Does Ekolo speak first or attack? Is the Cape even here?

 

Trio

The group break camp at the crack of dawn and continue towards the chasm. They pause before Munboia Tips. The rocky crag sloping gently upward before becoming more aggressively sloped several hundred feet awat. The foot of the mountain has dense tree cover. Hidden in the shadows of the trees is the opening to the cave which the Trio believes houses the Cape of Stars. They take a few tentative steps forward, cautious of any danger with Khulna pulling up the rear.

Maso puts a hand up to stop the trek about 50 feet from the treeline. “We did it my friends… we’re here as described. The Dolksang Abyss is just ahead of us. Let’s put some obsidian in our backs and go get the cape.” The others, Lypera and Khulna, nod. A brief discussion of walking order takes place and the trio begin to move forward agaon.
