Mery gives a chuckle at Decimus' question. "I hardly studied military strategy or command," she begins, "but let me think a moment..."

After several seconds, she says, "Blocking communication, transportation, and the ability to pay an army's soldiers are all good, though blocking payment is somewhat less effective if the army is fighting to defend its home territory, as those fighters tend to see themselves as having more to lose than just gold. I'd assume, however, that an evil invading army would rely more on gold and other forms of payment as well as punishment for failure to motivate its soldiers."

"You can also destroy an army's food supplies, but they will often just take to pillaging the countryside for the food they need in that case. That can cause more problems than it solves."

"Blocking transportation often requires knowledge of the surrounding lands. But narrow mountain passes, swamps, and deserts have all been used in the past to slow or stop an enemy army. Destroying bridges and ships, too."

"Bad weather can at least delay an army."

"Anything beyond that requires specific knowledge of the army in question." She gives a shrug. "Does that answer your question?"
