Country Roads, Take me Home

Sean nodded. "A beginner at best. Just a pastime." he said shuffling the cards in a way to imply he was absolutely not. He put the deck down in front of him. The back of the cards showed a odd open bloodshot eye, poking out of a deep blue-green sea.

"Cut the deck would you. Better to put a bit of the subject into the deck."

Danny takes the deck, noting the bloodshot eye decorating the back of the cards, and cuts it into four smaller portions of varying sizes. He then stacks them back on top of each other so that what was once the middle was on either the top or the bottom, what was on top was near the bottom, and what was on bottom was near the top.

"I know it's a weird cut," he acknowledges as he slides the deck back to Sean. "Been around plenty of crooked poker dealers, so I've gotten used to making them work a bit harder to pull a fast one on me. Not that you would; just saying it's a habit."

"No offense taken. You should always trust but verify. Keep you unmarred in Silver City." he said shuffling the cards and placing them down

"There are many different thoughts on how to do tarot. Some folks go for 6, 7 cards, 13 even. I just stick to three" he said as he laid the three cards down, each one felt like there was a tug, push and pull on Danny

He snickers. "Death first? Death of a life left behind. Death of who you were. Death is not cataclysm but instead change. And much like death, it's better to accept it. This is where you were, the death of the past."

"The Hermit. Withdrawal, solitude. Silver City is a place a part from much of the world... and Nomine House is isolated further. You're meeting with a man that has been isolated but has gained wisdom in that isolation. Or maybe YOU are the hermit, and this is your path to enlightenment." he then goes to the moon and raises his eyebrows

"The Moon. Illusion, mystery. Your future is shrouded and nothing is what is seems. You need to be prepared for lies and half truths, and you need to beware those things that are hidden." he says, Looking up to Danny. As Danny talks, about 20-30 seconds into his response, he feels a wave of fatigue hit him, like the bed was the best thing in the world...

A stern and solemn expression showed across Danny's features as he listens to Sean's reading and contemplates what significance it would have in his every day life. Death of the life he had before was pretty spot on, though given how varied his experiences were any number of cards could have had some tie-in with his past. Same with the Moon; without much of a past and little guidance in the present, his future was indeed shrouded in mystery and uncertainty. At least whatever power or lack thereof was behind the cards wasn't trying to railroad him into some destiny that might not be one meant for him.

But the middle card--the Hermit--stuck out as a sore reminder that he now only had one person in his life--the same person he had neglected in hopes of making others in his life proud of him.

"Maybe a hermit needs a home in which to be a hermit?" he remarks with a slight, sad smile. "Seems pretty spot on, but also very open-ended."

He stifles a rather long and loud yawn with the back of his forearm. "Thanks for the reading, Sean. Would y'all mind if I crashed nearby for the night?"

"Your story is open ended, the future isn't set, only the paths available." he said, Danny felt another wave of fatigue. "Go close your eyes. You have a big day tomorrow."

Danny rather automatically went to sit down on one of the cots. He barely remembered hitting the pillow.

The sun was in Danny's eyes. He winced as he got up. The first thing he noticed was that there was not a tent around him anymore, the second thing he noticed was that his clothes were... well they were still HIS but they were... nice? They almost seemed new. They felt odd on his skin.

The last thing he noticed as he realized the tent, the men, the fire, and the cot were gone was that a new item had appeared near him. It appeared to be a motorized bike that had a piece of paper on it flapping in the early morning breeze...

  • 2 weeks later...

"Well . . . " Danny mumbles to himself apparently as he looks around at the rather barren desert around him. "Don't know what to make of this." He strides over to the bike, takes the paper and examines it.

Danny got to the bike, opening the paper a key is taped inside, it looks like the key to the bike

The paper reads

"Happy to do business with you. Take the bike, you'll need it. Tell B Sean says hi."

Looking up the motorized bike had a small pack on the back as well. It seemed filled with clothes and a small bundle of dried apples and meat.
