Show Backstory

Adalet Bladeseeker was born to Markha, a renowned hunter, and Kiyore, a blacksmith, in the town of Yamonji. A rambunctious child, she spent her days trying to climb everything and pestering the traders who came through Yamonji for information about the world beyond the town's walls, when she wasn't doing chores or undergoing the basic weapons training that all Matanji children complete.

At the age of eight, her adventuring career almost came to a very abrupt end when she fell down a disused well. However, even the youngest of Matanji orcs possess an intense sense of community, and her playmates snapped into action. One of them stayed with her, leaning over the well and trying to reassure the scared child. Another ran for help, and quickly returned with what seemed like half the town, led by Adalet's parents and Chijoke, the local priestess of Majagua. Adalet watched in awe as Chijoke took one look at the situation and rallied the townsfolk to throw a rope into the well and tie it around a tree. Chijoke, Markha, and Kiyore coaxed Adalet to climb up the rope, and when her exhausted little arms ran out of strength, she organized the adults to pull Adalet the rest of the way out.

Like any good Matanji child, Adalet had come to appreciate the importance of gratitude at a very young age, and as soon as she recovered from the ordeal, she sought out Chijoke to thank her for her help, and ask how she could repay the aid. Chijoke smiled and replied that "Majagua smiles upon those who seek to offer aid, no matter how weak or helpless they may be." Adalet frowned for a moment and asked how she could offer aid. Perhaps seeking to stave off an absolute avalanche of little kid questions, Chijoke directed Adalet to transfer from the general weapon training program to that sponsored by the local temple. There, in addition to basic demon-hunting techniques, Adalet would learn the tenets of Majagua's faith and work to aid the community.

This referral turned out to be the best possible thing for Adalet. While she found the organized book learning side of things a bit difficult, she thrived in weapons training, and Majagua's teachings of respect for one's community and defense of one's people spoke to the young girl. Through all this, she maintained her curiosity, still reading everything she could find and asking every question she could think of.

When Adalet was seventeen, Yamonji sent out a call: they wanted to send someone to the Magaambya. The Magaambya could provide a new way for the Matanji to teach the world their demon-hunting techniques and thus better Golarion, and the knowledge of the scholars of the Magaambya could improve the lives of all Matanji. The village council wanted this student to be the vanguard of an exchange program that would allow both groups to prosper.

Adalet applied for the position, but didn't really expect to be accepted. After all, the Magaambya was a school. Where one learned magic. Adalet had been an average student at best, and the only spell she could cast was the standard lay on hands that all champions learned. Still, though, learning magic did sound cool, and she thought the village council's idea of an exchange to be a very good one.

Everyone, Adalet included, was very surprised when the Yamonji council announced that the scholar who was to represent the village-represent all Matanji-at the best academy of magic on Golarion would be her.

Head still spinning, Adalet was given the honorific of Bladeseeker, for she was to seek a new blade to drive into the heart of the fiends who haunted the Mwangi jungle. Then, with the teachings of her faith to guide her and her trusty machete at her side, Adalet set off to Nantambu, one question burning in her mind.

Why did the council pick me?
