Game Expectations

Posting Rate

This game will accept five players. I am typically available week days to post at least once a day, sometimes at weekends too. I try to post after the majority of the players have posted unless in combat. If you can't post at least twice a week then you'll probably be frustrated with the pace of this game. Similarly if you want to post twice a day and the other players only post every other day, you might be frustrated. I am generally looking for people to post three or four times a week.

Sometimes the dialogue between a PC and an NPC won't need additional PC input. In which case other players should indicate that their character is listening or waiting. I don't want to keep everyone waiting because we all assume someone else is going to chime in.

Communication

The key to a good game is good communication. Life happens and if you need to be absent for a time, just say so, it's not a big deal. If you need to leave, that's OK too. If there is something that prevents this, don't feel embarrassed to drop in after the fact and let me know. I'd hate to lose a good player because they feel embarrassed about a sudden absence.

If you don't like something in the game, speak up. Similarly, if you really enjoy one particular aspect of the game then say so. If there's something that you particularly want to avoid, just let me know.

Animal Cruelty

Later in the AP there is a part of the game that features animal cruelty. If this bothers you in a fictional setting, please say so. Early on you use animal parts in your quests so if this bothers you speak up. I can downplay those parts.

Mistakes

Nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes. Generally speaking, unless it involves character death, I will just run with the mistake and learn from it. If you cast a Fear spell, for example, and I get the number of targets wrong so a whole group of enemies flee, that's not terrible. Maybe they were cowardly and one enemy running caused the others to run. Just point out the error in the Out of Character thread so I don't make the same mistake again.

I'll do the same if I see a player make a mistake. This isn't to call anyone out, just to ensure that we all use the same mechanics and learn from mistakes. Sometimes a player might post four actions in error, like move, cast a two action spell, and maintain a spell. I'll usually ask Out of Character for the player to clarify.

Posting format

Your posting format should include some basic information like your character name, a portrait, and statistics like AC, hp, etc. It doesn't have to be a lot, just basic things to stop me needing to look things up too often.

The Pathfinder 2e three action economy is fantastic so please use this in your posts when in combat. Also post downtime and exploration activities too. I prefer that these are separate to narrative and not in a spoiler. The reason for this is that I sometimes miss actions tucked away in spoilers.

For example

Actions

Exploration: Avoid Notice Stealth check at +8

or

Actions

Action 1: Stride N, N, NE, E
Action 2: Demoralise the goblin. Intimidation (20)
Action 3: Strike the goblin with my short sword (Attack 22, damage 12)
Reaction: Raise Shield

Maps and Combat\Exploration

Where there are maps I'll either use grid coordinates for you to use or, if I don't, please use directions where North is up and East is to the right.

Alignment and Cooperation

I tend not to be too strict on alignment and I'd honestly be quite happy not to use it at all but it is part of the game system so make use of it. That means there is no restriction on evil or chaotic alignments however, all PCs should be expected to cooperate and get on well together. Antisocial characters will find NPCs refusing to help them or actively working against them. Your actions have consequences. If your character murders someone, for example, expect to be arrested and thrown out of the Magaambya. Minor crimes will also have repercussions.

Role playing and combat

The first part of the AP strives for a "magic school" experience of helping peers, earning teachers' trust, and even getting into trouble. There is little combat and a lot of role playing. Inventive solutions that avoid combat are rewarded as if the combat were won. If you enjoy that in a game, please apply.
