The planetary government on paper is a constitutional monarchy, with an elected prime minister who oversees a planetary House of Lords and House of Commons. In reality the royal family and their allied lords run the planet, though fortunately the king at present seems halfway benevolent towards his subjects. Were the rapidly growing economy to be upset by something however, it is unclear how the government would respond.

Regional governments are smaller versions of the planetary government, typically with one of the planetary lords presiding over a regional House of Lords and House of Commons.

The planet lacks a military force (as there are no enemy worlds about and no sufficient space travel regardless), and relies solely on Planetary Security to keep the peace.

The dominant religion on Zannqu centers around a wrathful god who sent her Holy Daughter, Jessia, to die for the sins of the world (and so the Holy Mother no longer had to deal directly with her believers). The current religious schism, which has so far only gone as far as some large, mostly nonlethal street brawls in some of the cities, centers around whether worshipers can speak directly to the Holy Daughter or must use a priest as an intermediary.

At present planetary security has managed to contain the two sects with minimal violence, but there are concerns of more radical elements on each side taking things further.

The organization responsible for keeping the peace on the planet, Planetary Security operates both in a everyday law enforcement capacity as well as dealing with the occasional tactical raid on organized crime in some of the more lawless regions of the planet. In more law-abiding areas such as New Ry-Ur, Planetary Security officers spend more of their time dealing with traffic accidents and writing parking tickets, with the occasional smattering of petty larceny and bar brawls.

Planetary security is death on firearms, and their ownership is restricted to those with a license. Considering getting a license requires a mid-level position in the security forces or the right connections in the government, very few citizens possess any firearms.

Knives on the other hand are far less regulated, with fairly ambiguous language about them being legal to carry so long as harm of others is not intended.

Sports

• Football (Soccer) has survived centuries, and is the largest sport on the planet. Large stadiums exist in most cities, each city with its own team, and rivalries can be fierce.
• Combatives such as Mixed Martial Arts and boxing are popular in Zannqu. MMA has the largest following among the blue collar citizenry of the planet, and boxing is treated as a "dignified" fighting style and is highly regarded in the upper class social circles.
