  1. Business. Will be in Western Kentucky. I'm hoping I can post, but I'm not sure my work computer allows this site.
  2. Have to go out of town for a week starting tomorrow. Any posting on my end may be sporadic. If I'm holding up, please NPC Chess and continue.
  3. Chess (Chester Alsworth) OCV: 7 | DCV: 7 | Stun: 20/20 | Body: 10/10 | End: 16/20 | Conditions: none | Skill Levels: 2 applied to OCV (9), 2 levels applied to DCV (9) =================================================================== The good news was that one guy was down, though not out. The better news was what Alsworth didn't hear- gunfire. No one was shooting. Chess tapped Ben the beggar on the shoulder. "Good time to get out of here." Chess nodded up the street, indicating the direction Ben should get going. After all, no one should be stopping people OUTSIDE the bank from leaving, right? And as he did so, it allowed Chess to peer through the window, inside the bank, watching the gunmen inside. Chess noted that was between two gunmen (Gunman 6 and Gunman 4)- and if all hell broke loose, and either one fired at Chess and missed... they might hit their partner. Something to keep in mind... Plans Right now, holding action. Seeing if any of the outside gunmen are trying to stop Ben from leaving
  4. Test ====================== Geist (Eleanor Wrigley) OCV: 7 | DCV: 7 | Stun: 20/20 | Body: 16/16 | End: 30/30 | Conditions: invisible| Skill Levels: none applied
  5. Chess (Chester Alsworth) OCV: 7 | DCV: 7 | Stun: 20/20 | Body: 10/10 | End: 20/20 | Conditions: none | Skill Levels: 2 applied to OCV (9), 2 levels applied to DCV (9) =================================================================== This isn't good. Chess assessed the situation. Massive firepower... 10 people, all armed with AR15s and AK47s, two vans. On the one hand, that much firepower often meant they weren't looking for a fight. Make threats, get the money, get out. An actual fight might end up putting a bunch of innocent people in harm's way. At the moment, only one guard injured, and not lethally. The smart move might be to let them rob the bank, get away, and then go after them later when there weren't innocent people around. On the other hand, the men were unmasked, and the banks had video cameras. So they didn't care if there was a recording of what they looked like. Which might mean they weren't expecting to escape with the money. And if Chess waited until they started firing, a lot of people might die. Chess looked down the street at the robber looking up in the sky and waving his machine gun around. As he walked onto the street. The street with a yellow volvo driving down it. It'd be a shame if he was so busy looking at the sky that he didn't see the car. Maybe there was a way to take one of them out without having everyone realize it. Plan 1st- does Chess recognize that symbol? Rolling Criminolgy (14-) to see 2nd- using his VPP to has the car clip the guy watching the sky (bank robber 8, I believe). 6D6 Blast, Indirect
  6. Chess doesn't have a secret Identity- he's a known private detective, and his powers are generally subtle enough that no one knows he's using them
  7. Chess (Chester Alsworth) OCV: 7 | DCV: 7 | Stun: 20/20 | Body: 10/10 | End: 20/20 | Conditions: none | Skill Levels: none applied =========================================================================== Testing a new header
  8. Chess rented his office in the East Havens on the second floor of a four story building complex. The building was managed by the Soveign City Asset Management corporation. At first, Alsworth thought that naming the company so the nickname was SCAM was just poorly thought out. Two years of dealing with them, he realized it should have been a sign. Constant complaints about the broken heater, leaky plumbing, and problematic other tenants (Chess didn't mind that there were drug dealers on the floor above him, but did they HAVE to play Drake at maximum volume every single day?) were met with complete and utter apathy. But SCAM was very quick to demand rental payment, on the fourth every single month. Chess had the money. But out of spite, he held out to the last second to pay them. Normally, he paid through his computer. But today there was some internet issues at the office (one more thing to complain about), so Chess trodded down to the First Bank to make sure SCAM was paid. Walking outside the bank, Chess spotted a beggar on the street, holding up a cardboard sign reading "Need food. Anything can help. God Bless." Chess kept a few loose singles in his pocket (he didn't ever pull out his wallet in the street) and handed them to the Beggar as he neared the bank.
  9. and I are going to drop out. Neither one of us are horror fans, and I've been getting slammed with real life work issues. It's been fun playing with everyone, and we hope everyone has a blast in the new setting.
  10. Chess downloaded the videos into both a cloud account and a key drive that he kept in a safe. Sure, they say the OneDrive is impossible to hack- but they also said the Titanic was unsinkable. He left an email to Mrs. Taylor arranging for a meeting in a few days to present the evidence, sat down, and poured himself a Wild Turkey on the ice. It was a good day, and he had nothing on the agenda tomorrow. He might be able to look into finding Wrigley's belongings...
  11. Like , I am also out from Friday through Sunday Everyone have a great weekend!
  12. I will be afk from Friday until Monday...
  13. Chess breathed a sigh of relief as the trio fled. It was a complication he really didn't need tonight. Complications gave him migraines. Turning back, he saw Barfly and Scumbag making out. The lighting gave him a good view- he saw Barfly's back tattoo clearly. The barfly was a brunette, unlike the blonde wife or the auburn-haired girlfriend. Variety is the spice of life, they always say... "Time for my closeup, Mister Demille..." Chess muttered as he started videotaping the encounter. It didn't make him feel good to be such a voyeur- but Chess wasn't being paid to feel good. And, having been through two divorces himself, Chess was always in favor of supporting the aggrieved party. Both of Chess' wives had cheated on him. ... ... ... to be fair, Chess had also cheated on both of them. And there was some debate over who cheated first. No time for that now. Chess focussed the camera to get a clear shot of both of their faces.
  14. That actually probably is the kinda guy Chess is (though I like to keep the posting PG), so let's run with it. Their robbery would still cause problems and Chess is hoping to chase them off with the fake police siren. Applying the four skill levels to my preception... (rolled an 11) As far as Chess can tell, he can only see the crowbar. But, rubbing his ribs from the memory, crowbars hurt like hell. (Rolled 2 6's) The sudden appearance of the siren shocks the trio, and Chess can see their eyes widen. Fear can lead to a 'flight or fight' response- and in this case, flight won. The trio take off, leaving behind a half-pried window and the stench of someone pissing their pants in fear.
  15. Double checking1) These three are breaking and entering Scumbag Taylor's house, correct? 2) Are any of them armed, from what Chess can see? You've got to be kidding me... Chess had it made. More than enough proof that Taylor had cheated on his wife. By all rights, he should be home, kicking off his shoes, seated in the Lay-Z-Boy, and seeing how the Giants choked away the lead in the final three minutes of the game. But, no. He had to earn the extra credit. And now these three bozos were going to ruin all of his hard work. They'd either get arrested, alerting Scumbag Johnson. Or steal something, causing the police to find Chess when they investigated the area. Or do something even more reckless and stupid and get Scumbag Johnson hurt, which would make some very unpleasant conversations with the cops. So... gotta run these three outta here, before they were in. Chess reached into his cell phone, found a youtube video, turned up the volume all the way, and hid himself behind the picket fence. Pointing the phone towards the three men, Chess hit , hoping to scare these three away from the building... EffectMaybe a Prescence attack? How do you want to handle this?
  16. A couple of thoughts: * I figure his office is in the East Havens, and in my mind I see him as a near cliche of a private eye (small office with piles of papers everywhere, along with a trash bag of empty bottles of alcohol * Even though he's gotten really lucky, that hasn't translated to being 'rich'. He's still a private eye to pay the bills (strangely, the superhero business isn't nearly as lucrative as you'd think) * I know at least three of the other heroes (Geist, The Shriek, The Rescuer) wanted to know Chess in the past. That works- he fell into the Supers business. In his mind, he's still a private eye; it's just now the people involved are capable of throwing trucks at him
  17. Heads up- I am out of town starting tomorrow and any posting for the next week will be very sporadic.
  18. So here's what I have for the group: Player Character Concept The Shriek (Sergio ?) Sonic Blaster with Sonar-based powers Recuer (John Harcourt) Mentalist with Alien Symbiote Iron Tiger (Johnny Chen) Martial Artist Geist (Eleanor Wrigley) Former Podcaster, now Ghost Chess (Chester Alsworth) Lucky ex-cop Medusa (Lilian Grey) Literal Gorgon The Fluke (Charles Martinez) Rich and Lucky Scion Looks like a good mix. I'll be glad to work with others as a contact. and I already figured out a history with our characters. Given Chess' past as a cop, he could be a way for the others to meet each other. I'm thinking Chess' office is in the East Havens.
  19. Fair warning- I will be at a customer's site for work next week, and my posting will be sporadic at best. Apologies if this causes any delays.
  20. I'm looking forward to playing- it's been years since I played Champions. I'll go through Chess and find 60 points to remove. Sorry about the confusion over the points.
  21. Human Bartender (retired)/Monk AC: 15 (Unarmored, WIS) | HP: 19/19 (2d8+4) | HD: 2/2 | Speed: 40 ft. | Initiative: +3 Senses: Passive Perception 12, Insight 14 Investigation 9. Str: 13 (+1) | Dex: 16 (+3) | Con: 14 (+2) | Int: 9 (-1) | Wis: 15 (+2) | Cha: 11 (0) Languages: Common, Arden listened to Sergeant Lin with a frown, nodding in agreement with D. "Not good." Anything that they didn't give you the details meant that it was probably serious. But it made sense to wait for the morning. "Let's get some rest- we'll take the second watch."
  22. Updated with first pass of character sheet
  23. A pair of questions: 1) Is Normal Character Maxima a Complication? 2) Do we get any everyman skills? Thanks
