I have been using this site for a while now, off and on, for character sheets but as of late I have found myself without any games to play. I am curious to try some forum/play-by-post games to possibly join if I can. I mostly prefer high magic with a good mix of both combat and roleplay, though if I were pressed to joined a game that focused on one over the other I would have to choose roleplay as my preferred style. In other words I am hoping to find a longterm game that is somewhere in the range of 75/25 to 50/50 roleplay to combat ratio. Also I am not a beginner player by any means, however I don't know rp systems by heart either.

Not sure what else to say so I will leave it at that for now. Please feel free to ask me any questions you might have and I will likely answer. I am a pretty open book and don't mind answering most any question I can, within reason.

Welcome to the Weave, phirron! A lot of folks were introduced to the site for sheets only, but many of us opted to stick around for the PbP as well.

Anyhow, in case you haven't seen it yet, here's a link to our Baldr User Guide, which contains several handy links that you will likely find useful. We do things a touch differently than some other sites, where we have game ads posted and prospective players apply. You'll want to swing over by our Game Ads section to check that out! Every GM does it a little differently, so check the campaign info and forum for the exact details.

We support a very wide variety of systems here, ranging from good ol D&D (of all editions) to Pathfinder to Shadowrun to Fate to PbtA to OSR to, well, I don't think there's a system we don't support or have players for. So if you spot something outside of your norm that catches your attention - go ahead and apply for it anyways. There is much to be gained by going outside of the box, after all.

Also, I recommend getting chatty through out the forums or even dropping by our Discord Channel, especially if you have questions. Just watch out for those welcoming harpoons - they're harmless... mostly 😂

    Hello Everyone!

I've found this community linked on reddit, thank you for leaving the door open to new comers!

Myself: I've been game mastering a group of 7-8 players since...well, the late '80s on a number of systems, but basically all around Moldway/red book and derivatives (i.e. Rules Cyclopedia and other incarnations of the original rule sets) - we also enjoyed for a while the likes Ironsworn and Symbaroum, and a few other systems, but what kept us together the most is old school D&D.

Nice to be here. I will look around for openings to further entertain myself...as a player, to get started!

Welcome to the Weave, Ainen! There's a chance I was the one who linked the site - I pitch MW quite often in all sorts of RPG communities.

    Hey everyone 👋

I have been playing D&D for a long, long time, but I have never had the chance to really get into PBP.

Now my life circumstances allows, and I'm looking forward to getting into to thick of it with all of you.

Welcome to the Weave, Emil. Don't worry - we all had to start somewhere in the PbP format.

    Howdy all!!!

This site was recommended to me by a buddy of mine since I'm new to PBP so I'm stoked to get into all of this :)

Played plenty of TTRPGs over the years. Itching to try all of this out. So expect to find me lurking in the PF2E, AD&D2e, and C&C posts >:)

    -Mel

Welcome to the Weave, Mel. I very much recommend not lurking, but getting in there and getting those feet wet sooner than later. It's a lot easier to figure things out by diving in.

  5. Don't feel bad, I'm on concept... 4 now, I think? I can't seem to settle on a concept enough to fully build out. I've gotten maybe half-way thru the build when I go "But what if I do this instead?" and then, yeah...

I know LL likes to keep character creation siloed off but does anyone mind sharing what their 'primary' attack looks like (attack bonus, damage, number of targets, etc). I'd like to have some benchmarks for what my own ridiculousness should aim for.

I can tell you not to worry about it, because Llyarden typically has a pre-game balancing thread, so that nobody is really out there in terms of power (or falling behind too badly)... but not sure if that helps at all LOL

    Hello there, :)

New to the site, but not to roleplaying - been playing by post for a number of years now, on another site. I started with D&D, but I've had some experience with Genesys, Starfinder, Monster of the Week, as well as purely freeform or semi-freeform home-brew systems, so I don't mind trying new things.

I'm into all kinds of genres...medieval fantasy/urban-contemporary fantasy, dystopian, futuristic and everything in between. Sadly, due to health issues and other circumstances I honestly haven't had it in me to do much writing or gaming at all in the past year. But I really miss it and would love to try and get back into it.

    Welcome to the Weave, Razia!

  8. I think Llyarden has been bogged down by Real Life lately, but he's still around here somewhere. I got him on discord, so I'll give 'im a poke later today.

The bartender followed along to the wagon, where she realized the lack of a horse or other beast of burden to pull it. She wasn't expecting Ash to pull it herself, nor with the level of power and speed that she exerted.

So when Yuu was riding the top of the wagon, it was a bumpy ride. Not out of raw speedI was curious, so I had the internet do some math for me. 90ft a round (which is 15 feet a second), is roughly 10 miles per hour. Which is blindingly fast for a human to move - the world record is 8 mph btw - but not super crazy in the grand scheme. It's impressively great for a humanoid character, so make no mistakes there, especially when pulling a wagon of gear over considerable distances.

Related, horses have a move speed of 50', although according to records, have achieved a top speed of 55 mph. Which is a sprinting speed, of course, so that isn't very accurate for this scenario. In fact, it'd be very unlikely that the horses pulling wagons would even get close to 10' per round...

This has been brought to you by "Yama has had too much time to think about these things lately"
, although it was faster than most wagon rides typically would go (especially at longer ranges), it was the constant bobbing and weaving and even the occasional jumps that did it. Didn't help that the gear strapped to the wagon, while more than adequately secured, wasn't designed to have people riding on top.

Still, this was much faster than what Yuuko herself could manage, even with magic. Despite the hectic ride, it beat walking. "Yeah, doing okay..."  If she hadn't been such a drinker in her younger years, the bartender might have lost her breakfast during the ride...

  10. image.jpeg.b097448d78d5b189c5dff71ce6595f06.jpegYuuko Hoshino

Yuuko chuckled a bit. Of course the whole hooha had been flubbed. She never had much faith in the kingdom's upper ranks, and was only involved in the trial for her own self-interests.

She looked back at Ashleigh. "Right, where's my own manners? Yuuko Hoshino. Feel free to call me Yuu if that's easier."  She stretched out a hand to shake. "And no worries, both about the flirting or needing a wagon - I came here as you see me. I have a few magic tools to haul my gear for me. But I wouldn't say no to a ride. Better than hoofing the old fashioned way."

The bartender opted not to correct the woman on her own gender, mostly out of her own amusement. It hadn't been the first time she had been confused as one or the other, and it wouldn't be the last.

  11. Okay, my real life issues have mostly wrapped up (TLDR - brother was in hospital, wasn't looking good but he recovered. Still in hospital, but should be released in the next few days), so therefore I'm back for posting.

  12. image.jpeg.b097448d78d5b189c5dff71ce6595f06.jpegYuuko Hoshino

The bartender sighed loudly. While she was particularly skilled at team-based approaches to hunts, she didn't really enjoy them much. But she understood, maybe better than most, the necessity of it all. She also didn't much care for all the ceremony involved in royal procedures. Yuuko figured the King didn't either, or else he would've shown up by now.

Despite this, she began looking around for familiar figures in the the crowd. At the very least, she knew she wasn't going to succeed tackling the Mountain alone. Thankfully, she spotted a pair of fiery folks who looked like they appreciated a good drink.

Yuuko fished out a small flask from her vest pocket. As she approached, she overheard the red-haired one mention something about the lowered quality of younger chefs. "Sometimes I swear they just send in some fodder to feed the fatten up the monsters in these sorts of things..." She unscrewed the cap, but then offered it. "You'll have to forgive me - I know I recognize you both, but I cannot place where. I swear I've seen both of you before this event."

  13. My apologies - it's been a weird couple of days. Meant to post sooner, but then work opted to hit me with a few hot jobs. Let me see what I can knock out in the next hour or two (assuming I don't get smacked again by more hot jobs).

  14. Finally figured out my rework - trading out Armiger for Commander (visionary general). Figure it would help a lot more if we had a more dedicated support/controller. Gonna drop life sphere, and focus more on alchemy. With that mentioned, I'm also trading out the grilling theme and instead working with drinks and booze (fire water, if you will). Still fire themed, though.

EDIT: I actually may change up to an Earth theme (because of acid is a different kind of burning, so to speak). Would be good to have a bit more elemental variety in the team, anyhow.. This is what happens when I have too much time to think over all the things LOL

Will likely also change my character's appearance some, although general background and personality should remain mostly the same.

  15. Meanwhile, I'm half considering dropping a lot of Yuuko's martial stuff to focus more on control and support (since I do a lot of that already - Nature sphere is just brutal for controlling options LOL).  Maybe swap out Amiger for Bard or Envoy or Scholar...

As is, Yu's default combo is (currently) use Lightning Assault to throw her spear, then swap to her lantern staff to hit 'em with either fire or (fired) sandstone, then move in with her axe to carve 'em up.  Repeat as required.  However, I've dipped a bit into the Skill Spheres, mainly Herbalism and Performance, for a bit of healing and buffing, which got me thinking I should focus more on that front...

    Additional Details Coming Soon

All Day Stats - What you can be assumed to have active at any time. These should be calculated using only stuff you have that lasts the whole day (or longer) or that you can consistently repeat (for instance if you have 50 spell points and have an attack that costs 1 spell point, it should be included here), but your personal stats should not include anything you can grant to the whole party.

Pre-Battle Stats - So this includes anything you will reasonably expect to have activated before a battle if you have a minute or so to prepare or stuff you can activate and benefit from while in combat. Again, don't include the effects of any buffs you can give the whole party in your personal stats.

Nova Stats - The absolute strongest you can be, spending things with limited daily uses, or that require specific situations to have occurred beforehand - and each 'set' of statistics should be calculated separately. For instance, even if you have a 1/day use of a resource that can boost either your AC or your attacks, both should be calculated in their boosted state here. And once again, ignore anything that will be given to the entire party when calculating the stats.

Please make only one post per person; discussions on balance can be in the OOC thread.

  17. So a heads up - Yu isn't a tanky sort.  She can hold her own, but she very much does not have the HP to endure a lot of punishment (which is why she snagged some heavy-duty of life sphere stuff).

I'm good with either ideas for background connections.  That said, I kinda saw Yu as more of a street vendor type - she obtains her ingredients through whatever methods (buying from stores, divine tasks, etc), then sets up a stall to grill things up....  Assuming she didn't grill it in the process of getting the materials LOL

Side note: I vaguely remember seeing we weren't doing anything with Guile stuff, but I almost want to dabble a bit.  Mostly for Navigation, and Survival (and maybe Herbalism or Perform if I got room).  No worries either way, of course - I doubt a lot of the skill spheres will actually play into this game's premise anyhow.
