  1. Posting has been quiet, which is definitely my fault with the stalled start and slower posting rate. Are people still here and willing to play or are most of you wanting to bow out? I know I said in my guidelines that I would post for players who missed a post, but not if more than half the players are gone. Let me know if each of you would like to still play and, if so, what you would need to see going forward to keep you around.
  2. 1.1.12. Maddie's attempts to relocate the kid proved fruitless as the beach was just far too crowded and the kid just too small and wily, though perhaps there was something less ordinary at play as well. The child's strange demeanor and tone seemed far unlike that of most children his age; it had definitely been an odd and uneasy interaction. As Maddie combed through the crowd, it had just begun to be evident that she would not be able to find the child again when she bumped into Michael and Manfred briefing each other on this morning's observations. 3. Your go at the mechanics @Roughtrade is spot on thus far. To explain a bit further, grit is spent more like all-purpose health, luck is spent to activate a perk, quirks are activated to regenerate luck. And yes, finding the child would have been a higher difficulty than easy.
  4. Post is up! How was the Vista Viking Festival? Also, don’t forget to bold and color your dialogue, folks.
  5. As mentioned in the first scene, a small sack of coins, and then three additional coins, have been found thus far. However, the appraisal of them being almost entirely pure gold and of unknown origin (combined with an overzealous media) has caused them to be highly valued and sought after. The first discovery of the sack was made by a young woman named Sandy Flores, who was all over the news for several days after the discovery. After the whirlwind of interviews died down, however, she seemed to retreat to her family home on the outskirts of town. The first and second coins were found by private collectors, and you are sure, with some digging, that you could find out the names, but not off the top of your head. The third coin, however, was discovered by a local celebrity, Zac Danvers. Zac was a California heart throb, having recorded several popular albums within the last few years before landing several lucrative endorsement deals. He does more commercials than songs these days, and his party barge can be seen off the coast of Sunset Hills quite often.
  6. 1.1.10. Madeline The small crowd that had gathered around Madeline clapped upon the close of her delightful ditty, and then began to disperse about the beach. As the child pushed through, he reached out and dropped the shell into Madeline's outstretched hand. It appeared to be a calliostoma tricolor (if you know about such things) shell, not entirely uncommon on this beach, but this one did have a certain completeness and sparkly allure. After depositing the shell in Madeline's hands, the child looked up at her with beady eyes. "You must kill the beach," he said. "You must," he mumbled again, before taking off and disappearing amidst the thighs, trunks, and towels of other beachgoers. Spotlight Manfred and Michael, you may continue you to have your conversation. See OOC for clarification on coins. All 96 hours
  7. 1.1.5. Madeline Madeline's morning was busy and eclectic, as was usual for her. When you had as large a family as hers, related or not, and as many hobbies and odd jobs as she did - well - you had a tendency to keep busy. Things like masquerading as a mermaid weren't nearly out of the ordinary, and puppy therapy was a casual and consistent treat. However, what was strange about this particular morning was a man who seemed to keep popping up wherever Madeline was. On the first and second appearance, it was likely someone wouldn't think anything of it. But there he was, staring at her from the coast as she rode by on her boat in the morning; he was in the crowd on the tour barge when she swam by as a mermaid; he was outside the coffee shop window, there one second, gone the next, after she turned away for the briefest of moments. He was a wide-shouldered, robust man with long, sinewy hair, and he wore swim trunks colored like a sunrise with a white sleeveless shirt. His head stood out as odd; it definitely seemed smaller than it should have been, but there was something else that seemed off, something that Madeline couldn't quite put her finger on. However, as she played her ukulele on the beach, she hadn't spotted her potential stalker in some time. If she scanned the crowds, he didn't seem to be in attendance, as far as she could tell. However, a little boy with hair that looked simultaneously sopping wet and strangely ruffled ran up to her chair and held up a colorful shell he had found amidst the sand. The boy seemed eager to share his discovery and a tad embarrassed at the same time. "Look" he mumbled, holding the white and orange shell above his head. Manfred (and Michael) It was hard not to find things at the Sunset Hills beach with a metal detector in hand. Some of the folks Manfred had spoken to on various forums had told him that they always had a much harder time finding anything of interest on beaches than characters in the movies, but not Manfred. He always managed to turn up a sack of ill-gotten gains. Now, of course, most unobservant people would scoff at the things Manfred had dug up, in fact, the local appraiser (really, just a two-bit hack of a pawn shop owner) had laughed him out of his shop, but Manfred knew better. There were patterns, secrets, and histories tied up in the things he found. Not everything, of course, but definitely in some of it. And especially in something Manfred had pulled out of the sand this morning. He hadn't noticed it too well when he first retrieved it, as it had been covered in muck and grime, but upon rinsing it back at his apartment, he discovered one of the dubbed 'Sunset Coins.' Adorned in strange symbols, these coins had started the whole gold craze on the Sunset Hills beach. The first discovery was of a small sack of them, just over two weeks ago. Since then, only three additional coins had been found and Manfred hadn't yet managed to get his hands on any of them... until today. As Manfred headed towards HQ, he noticed Michael heading towards him after leading a young kid to shore. NoteIt's up to you whether you pocketed it or left it at your apartment. Spotlight The focus was more on Madeline and Manfred for this post, as Michael was more the focus of the first. But that doesn't mean he shouldn't participate in the next round of posts! 8. Oh wow, sounds like fun! That's in California, if I'm not mistaken. You'll have to tell us what it was like! Also, no worries. We're taking things rather slow to start, as you can see by the 120 hour timer. With my prolonged absences, it would be hypocritical of me to hold you to a higher standard. I had to work a convention myself today (but thankfully not tomorrow), so I'm tuckered out. I will have a post up by end of day on Monday (if not tomorrow).
  9. This thread is specifically for discussing plans, our-of-character, for scene 1.1. If you want to ask someone if it's ok to take the scene in a specific direction before doing so, this is the place to do it.
  10. 1.1.1. () The glimmering sun glistens off the relatively calm waters as the squawks of a flock of seagulls rises above the din of the crowd that fills the beach on this scorching, yet superb, day. The beach has been busy lately, downright unmanageable. Not only is it peak vacation season, tourists scrambling over the town in droves, but the rumors of treasure washing up ashore have driven even more people to the waterfront. And some of these people, well, they don't understand beach etiquette. Or the beach rules. Like No Metal Detectors for one. Town council banned those eight years ago when a local cult town activist group started a series of unauthorized digs along the beachfront. When a seven-year-old twisted his ankle, fell in a pit eight feet deep, and his parents threatened to sue... well, no more metal detectors and no more holes deeper than two feet. These last two weeks, Michael Bishop has been fighting a losing battle to keep metal detectors and heavy-duty (obviously not for building sand castles) shovels off his sands. Today, however, has been different as there hasn't been a beeping rod in sight. It's busy, but almost... normal busy. Perhaps folks have been getting the message, or perhaps the rumors have finally started to die down as nothing's washed ashore in over a fortnight. Whatever the case, it's a breath of fresh air, which is rare in this bay (often quite literally). Right now, it's hot. The beach is full of towels, umbrellas, and sunbathers, and more people arrive by the hour, hovering around the periphery, waiting to snatch up valuable real estate. But, for anyone who chooses to scan the crowd and the water, no emergencies seem to catch their eye. One family is arguing with another about turning down their music, but that's surprisingly more common than one might expect and it hasn't gotten to a point where interference is necessary. SPOTLIGHT All (What are each of you up to on the beach this fine day? Try to be within relative proximity of each other). 120 hours
  11. *kazoos* Here's a fresh OOC thread to coincide with the actual start of the game. This thread is mostly for hanging and largely non-game related chat. You know what to do.
  12. I just wanted to drop in and say good work everyone. I have to get some sleep right now, but tomorrow I will be posting our official start!
  13. Ah, perfect. That wide approach to the quirk will help you get some great use out of it. Looks like another fine addition to this beach investigation team!
  14. Looking good! I think that all lines up nicely and you'll be happy with those perk/quirk choices.
  15.   Yes, my mistake. It was not clearly explained in the How to Play section, but I have remedied that- Universal Quirk: Slow Motion All heroes in R'lyehwatch have an additional quirk they can use at any time: Slow Motion. The monstrous influence of elder gods bends time in dramatic ways. When you take advantage of that, narrate how you look amazing as time slows, then handle as any other quirk. @RedMax has the intention of the quirk down pat. Oh, I definitely think we can have a lot of fun with this!
