    PART 1:
    A GATHERING OF WANDERERS

Tros smiled at Billie's eagerness, she seemed to be a quick learner. "I'll take you up on that, and indeed I am. The Halysik," Tros answered as he retrieved another Javelin. "It's a series of sporting events between elite athletes. Meant to honor the gods, with some training. I think you'd do very well." Tros said as he made his way to the pitch. Again he displayed the same routine, sprinting, lifting the Javellin, the bounding strides, and then the pivot to his back foot for throwing power as he launched the Javellin through the air.

The Javellin raced through the air with even more power and speed than the last, landing a few feet in front of his and Billie's first throws. He stepped back and placed his hands on his hips as he slowed his breathing. He looked back to Billie and then walked over. "Looks like I'll be taking those pointers," Tros said as he ran a hand through his hair, sweat dancing down his body. "Perhaps I could offer some one on one practice in my field of expertise." He said with a wink. "Are you free anytime tomorrow?"

"No thanks needed, Mags. I am merely playing my role." She said as she began to usher the rest of the remaining party out. Before they had left some questions were asked of her. "Oh yes here." The Triton said offering Dae a piece of chalk from a nearby table. "It would be quite hard to miss," Deypho said as she soaked in the questions Dae was asking. "Thiovanya's resting place was underneath the lone temple to Xoros at the top of the mountain. It was used as an observatory of sorts for some time before it was abandoned. As for a stargazer, I do not personally know one here in town." Deypho said wishing she knew more. There was little time though and so she did not have time to sulk.

"And you," Deypho said looking at Damaia. "Please keep these ones in line," she said jokingly before giving a nod and then sitting at her desk.

Alright heroes, you have been given a lot of information. You likely need a pitstop to rest and eat before you head out to your next destination. What would you like to do?

According to the DMG (Ch 7, Identifying Magic Items)...

So Mags has handled the signet ring. Does he sense anything extraordinary about it?

Sorry missed this. You do not sense anything magical about it.

@TheWordWeaver Dae assumed Deypho could at least lend her a writing instrument. Let me know if she can keep it? 😄

As for next steps, I guess we can discuss them over dinner at the pub!

    Of course, that's fine 😛

A carriage with 4 to 6 horses or individual horses would be fastest... Unless there's an airship 😛

Could be something even better here in Baromenes if you guys make the right connections 😉

😮 nice. Any chance we can get a thread of notes or something @TheWordWeaver?

Most definitely ill put it in the Game Threads

Nice! I have something similar offline, missing a couple of those things, but I can add:

    • Orc's name: Krykon, Human's name: Andropeclis (and he was the sliver bearer), but both had signet rings (one given to Deypho for "further investigation")
    • Compass addition: Death was at the initial meeting and gave us the box for it
      • Personal speculation: that Death or his king, Siarus, was sending the dreams... he cares about what happens here.
    • Re: "the Oria in the Storm Quarter", I thought it was to find more information about The Corruptor? Also, such information can be found in the libraries of Anthropoi.
    • Re: painting, the 6th hero was Serysh from Erenae (village near Baromenes), was a sixth name, he died and villiage destroyed in an ambush when Deypho had set up a meeting with him

There might be more notes to add, I'll look later when I have more time. 🙂

Re: WordWeaver, the map... I was wondering if it was regional or if it had any more details for the cities... particularly of Baromenes? If it did not, I might edit for Dae to ask for one of the city.

The map is a map of the city, Which I will be giving yall access to once I finish it up. The Oria is Baromenes's biggest Archive/Library so their could be info about the corruptor there?

    2 hours ago, fenrirlokison said:

@TheWordWeaver I think I recall you saying the voice sounded familiar? I can't really seem to find it, but did it sound similar to the voice in the dream/nightmare/vision?

    This is correct

  4. Yep, each hex is 50 Miles. Overland travel is about 24 Miles in 8 hours at a normal pace.

An airship would definitely help. If only you had one of those 😛

    PART 1:
    A GATHERING OF WANDERERS

"Very impressive, have you done this before?" The man said in perfect Grehesian as he grabbed a nearby Javelin. "I am Tros, it is a pleasure." He said with a smile as he walked past you. He moved to the pitch and readied himself. "Let us see what I have left in the tank," Tros said looking back at you with a blink. The sweat danced down his form as he made his move. Muscles poised to react at a moment's notice.

Holding the spear with his right hand he sprinted forward, lifted the spear above his head, and gained speed as he took 10 powerful steps. Then a series of crossover steps to transition into a better position to throw from. The last step was wider than the rest, allowing him to push off his back foot as he aligned his throwing arm and launched the Javelin down the field.

The Javelin sailed threw the air as Tros threw it with precision. It finally found its landing place right next to Wilhelmina's own javelin. Tros looked back to Billie and gave a slight nod and bowed. "It seems we have a competition on our hands, Billie."

Deypho couldn't help but show signs of worry on her face as she watched the sliver disappear and then reappear in the small jewelry box. The sliver itself made no fuss as it was placed in the jewelry box, instead, it seemed to rotate a few times as if steadying itself back and forth until it stopped and pointed west. Even if it were moved it continued to point in one direction almost like a compass. "You might be able to find information about the corrupter in the great libraries in Anthropoi. but you could also search the Oria in the Storm Quarter."

"I do not recall any prophecies from Thiovanya regarding you all, his death was some time ago. If he is chained there is only one way to be certain. You must check his gravesite." She said with finality. "He was buried in the Xorinófot Mountains in between here and Thespoe," Deypho added pulling out a scroll tube and handing it to Dae.

"In case you all did not have one already, here is a map." She said before moving to the door. "It is as Mags says," Deypho paused "It is best you move now, rest and gather yourselves. You can find me here most times of the day if you need me." She said opening the door to the rest of the temple. "Till we next meet."

    PART 1:
    A GATHERING OF WANDERERS

Deypho watched Wilhelmina move to leave, she hoped her hard-headedness would be of use in the battles to come. Giving no protest to Billie taking the scroll she turned and watched the sliver vibrate and shake in place as the door to her chamber opened and then closed.

"Huh?" Deypho said looking up at Mags. "Yes, the scroll. When it first appeared the army was not there and then one day it was..." She said offhandedly, swiping a finger slowly in the space between Lulani and the angled sliver but finding no purchase. "Not help, Prevent." She said before being shown a signet ring by Mags. Deypho looked over it closely "If I may can I take this for further examination?" She said bluntly.

As Damaia and Dae spoke Deypho caught a bit of their conversation. "Yes, um, I think I've heard the tale of such a group before," and then Deypho heard the name 'Thiovanya.' Deypho turned with a quickness toward Dae. "Where did you hear that name?" She said surprised. "Thiovanya was the longest reigning Oracle of Thespoe. He has been dead for some time though." Her words were spoken with confusion. "What does he have to do with the Chained Ones?"

Before her question could be answered Lulani retrieved a cloth from her pack and laid it on the table. From the corner of her eye, Deypho turned and watched as if in slow motion as Lulani uncovered it. No sooner had the sliver from Andropeclis been uncovered did the two shards, as if attracted to each other, move across the table on their own and fused together in a terrible screeching sound.

Deypho had tried to reach out to stop what had just happened but she was not quick enough and immediately covered her ears as the screech started. As the screeching stopped Deypho uncovered her ears slowly, a shocked expression on her face. "That... Can not be good." She said as she looked upon the sliver that fell to the table with a soft thump. "If that is his heart, it just got one step closer to being complete."

From outside the temple, Wilhelmina found herself graced by the warmth of the sun once again. She wasted no time heading down the path they had come and, after a few minutes, spotted the field and the javelin throwers. Most had filed out only leaving a couple left on the field still practicing their throws. As Billie approached one of them. A young man of olive complexion, hazel green eyes, and black hair looked at her. He was topless and only wore a simple cloth tied at his waist that stopped halfway down his thighs. He was lithe but muscled and toned, the sweat from his body gave him a slight sheen in the sun.

"Greetings!" The words came in Halaen common which your mind took a second to decode into something that made sense. "I've never seen you here before, are you new?" The man said as he eyed Wilhelmina up and down.

@TheWordWeaver how big are these slivers?  I imagined near half the size of a sewing needle.

yeah, that'd be about correct. The one on the table is about an inch long, and 1/2 inch around and the other from pale face is mostly the same.

Not exactly, it shows up when there are multiple "Marked" In close vicinity. Hence why you all never really noticed before.

    PART 1:
    A GATHERING OF WANDERERS

"Eclipse? I'm not sure but it should be soon." Wilhelmina's rambling caused a retort from Deypho. "This "sliver" is a piece of a very powerful artifact," She said sucking her teeth. "I would request not disrespecting the gods on their holy grounds. Cause for bad luck." She said dismissing Billie's wildness. Deypho was about to move before Dae called out to her, asking another question.

"Nightmares? I ensure you that neither I nor the Oracle has such powers. Someone, or something, has been giving you these visions." Deypho said as she eyed the auburn-haired girl. She couldn't help but notice how unsure she looked, Deypho wished she had more answers. These sorts of things were never transparent, this much she knew firsthand.

"The marks, yes. uh," Deypho gathered herself "They're indicators, symbols given to us by the divine's to give us our roles." She said in passing, her head perked up when Lulani asked about the Oracle. "You very well could, she is in Thespoe. A few days travel southeast." Deypho paused looking at Billie, she could feel the need to roll her eyes but held back. She adjusted her clothes and then sat up "As I said, it made itself. It all just appeared one day five years ago. Yes, Serysh is no longer shown and his name is crossed out." She said pointing to the crossed-out name. "I've only seen it change twice. Once when Serysh died, and the other when the Shadowy One's army appeared. I believe it changes whenever either side gets closer to reaching their goal." Deypho said before looking to Damaia, she noticed some eyes had drifted to the sliver.

"It is a piece of an artifact known to be able to control the will of others," She said fearing their attention was slipping and so stood to lead them out. No sooner had Deypho stood so did the shard, standing on a jagged point it slowly turned and pointed toward Lulani. The sliver shook with intensity as if connected with some unseen tether. "I've never seen it do that, Lu what do you have?" Deypho asked a sense of fear layered into her voice.

    Interesting happenings.

Ok, thanks! Just for clarity... Dae does not speak Halaen common, so she's been speaking Urzoa common. I'm hoping that's the general language we've been using to speak to each other.... er... yes?

Also, if she saw the note, would she not be able to read it at all? Total gibberish or partial understanding?:

Edit: And... we all get Urzoa common for free, yes?

Correct, Urzoa common is the "Base" Common for this campaign. All of the other commons are just regional dialects of Urzoa common so you can mostly understand everything that is said even if you do not know the regional dialect. It is mostly an RP thing that will have gameplay factors every now and then.

  13. Heya everyone, Hope you all had a great weekend. Gonna catch up on everything and get to posting.

Then... a couple of questions? @TheWordWeaver

    • In what language is the parchment (and any text on the painting) in?
    • Does the splinter of metal look like it would fit in the small box Death gave them?
    • I feel like rolling for something... haha, maybe a history check on paintings like this? Has she ever heard of such a thing before? I'll go roll in the "Bones" channel...

Edit: And "Akropoli" is "Acropolis" in Greek or something, yes? Would this be the name of such a location in the common tongue that everyone is speaking or in a local dialect or....?

    •  The Letter/message is written in Halaen common, there is no writing on the prophecy scroll other than your names.
    • It would easily fit in the box.
    • Dae has probably heard stories of prophecies and futures writing themselves on parchment. She would faintly recall seeing an animated painting? Scroll? On board Samanthios boat that he kept in his personal quarters of a dancing bard playing the lyre. This scroll though seems much different than that.

Yes just cut up and one letter changed. It's a dialect, in Urzoa common it would be Akropoles.

  14. Lol, good guesses. The sigils that I had written down if you are to check for yours are:

    Mags - Cat

    Wilhelmina - Wolf

    Damaia - Ox

    Dae - Fox

    Lulani - Spider

(Perhaps you can guess their meanings)

    12 minutes ago, Rumrunner said:

@TheWordWeaver in looking at the battle scroll, Billie wants to check to see if their wielding the same weapons/armor they have now, and if they're( especially herself) using any abilities/stances sword maneuvers that she's not yet familiar with.

I'm thinking she's going to want this scroll as a guide to develope her own skill and to see if their choices are making the battle harder or easier. Otherwise she'll be asking if this battle scene has changed over time, which it likely has as there's one less person.

This really could be one of the most useful things ever.

If you'd prefer I ask this stiff ic let me know.  Just woke up and thought of this... Depending when I wake up for realsies and get coffee, I may just post it anyway.

For sure feel free to post a question in IC I always love giving expo.

Wow, I somehow totally missed that battle scroll... 😕 Isn't Dae's full name Diana?

It debated on if it should be her full name but I like to think it changes based on what the character decides they want to be called by others.

    PART 1:
    A GATHERING OF WANDERERS

Deypho Regarded Mags and gave a slight chuckle. "You think of me as someone with status. And our enemies as someone who sits idly by. Do you see my name on this parchment? Do you see armies?" She said shaking her head. "I am just the messenger and the Oracle told me what she knew, what the gods were willing to pass through her. That a time would come when you would all come together to stop whatever this is." She finished gesturing to the scroll once more before holding a hand up. "And that I was to tell you what lies ahead. Believe me, I am not stoked to have this on my head either. But it is an honor nonetheless"

"If it were not true the whole scroll would be wiped out, not just a name. Clearly, you all are special for reasons beyond mine or your understanding." She said holding up a second finger.

"An ambush. I had set a meeting with him in a village nearby called Erenae. When I went to meet him the whole town had been destroyed. I found him, butchered. He was just a boy." She said putting up a third finger.

"Isn't it obvious? They knew you'd be here, just as I did. You are marked." With that, she rose walked towards Mags, and snatched his arm. Flipping it over so his palm was facing the ceiling she did the same with hers. a brilliant yellow sigil glowed on both of their forearms. Mags is the symbol of a cat and Deypho's a bird. "We all are." She said releasing his arm.

"Every step I take towards helping you the enemy takes two more, there are agents in this city who work for him. I have gathered what I can for your fight. Starting with this." She said as she moved back behind her desk and then crawled under it. A sound of pops and clicks rang from within the desk itself and then she appeared once more. She held a black cloth and laid it on the table. Grabbing the corner she threw the cloth off revealing what she had been hiding. "Do not touch it." She instructed.

On the table sat a splinter of wrought metal about an inch in length, it was shattered and jagged on either end. It was the deepest black you have ever seen, darker than the night and it seemed to call to you. Almost willing, begging even for you to pick it up.
