  1. No.17 After a few seconds passed, No.17 let out a soft sigh and leaned back into his seat, checking the radar sensors an instant too late. Not noticing anything amiss, he send a brief congratulations over to Remy. "I'll divert power to the shields in preparation of any traps or guards. I think it's time that we begin moving in." As he waited for her to respond, he began to switch his power banks over towards powering the shields and ablative plating instead. ---- Action: Durability/Internal Systems CaA for extra Protection ---- Trackers Lurking: 1 Free Invoke ---- No.17 PILOT ASPECTS Self View: Humanity's Product Social Type: Silent, Investigative Type Trauma: Occupational Paranoia Pilot Style: The Second Route of Assassination Dream: Freed of the Bonds of Duty SKILLS +4: Melee +3: Agility, Toughness +2: Investigation, Situational Awareness, Mental Fortitude +1: Contacts, Mechanics, Medical, Diplomacy Stunts: Martial Exemplar: +1 Free Invocation when performing Melee-related CaAs Whirling Dervish: When being attacked by more than one individual enemy, gain +2 to Melee Trained Bodyguard: Once per combat, take a single attack meant for someone else in the same zone, defending with half stats(minimum of 1) ---- Mecha: Lie Vante Lie Vante Design Concept: Melee-Focused Assassin Design Flaw: "Get me closer so I can hit them with my sword!" 2. No.17 No.17 sat somewhat awkwardly in Lie Vante, not quite knowing what to do. A stealth mech was, after all, not exactly intended to be for the public eye, and his own social skills were hardly in the range of reassuring. However, after a second of thought, he phoned a few contacts to see if they could dig up any information on what these people were protesting on, and how best to get them to calm down. It was a faint chance they had any postings out here, but it was a chance nevertheless. ---- Action: Contacts CaA for Remy ---- Trackers Lurking: 1 Free Invoke ---- No.17 PILOT ASPECTS Self View: Humanity's Product Social Type: Silent, Investigative Type Trauma: Occupational Paranoia Pilot Style: The Second Route of Assassination Dream: Freed of the Bonds of Duty SKILLS +4: Melee +3: Agility, Toughness +2: Investigation, Situational Awareness, Mental Fortitude +1: Contacts, Mechanics, Medical, Diplomacy Stunts: Martial Exemplar: +1 Free Invocation when performing Melee-related CaAs Whirling Dervish: When being attacked by more than one individual enemy, gain +2 to Melee Trained Bodyguard: Once per combat, take a single attack meant for someone else in the same zone, defending with half stats(minimum of 1) ---- Mecha: Lie Vante Lie Vante Design Concept: Melee-Focused Assassin Design Flaw: "Get me closer so I can hit them with my sword!" 3. No.17 Inspecting the civilians, No.17 tapped his armrest thoughtfully. In an extreme case, they could always use their Mechs to clear the civilians out, although the PR fallout would be equally extreme. However, if the infantry was forced to focus on clearing the crowd out, No.17 suspected further groups would be filtering their way inside. "There should be some mines detonated a safe distance away, but close enough to spook, perhaps. Give the cover of terrorists having mined the entire place to blow, that we're mine-sweeping. That should persuade the civilians to keep a safe distance, if nothing else, and give pause to the enemy's reinforcement, who might not know if we've done it or not." ---- Action: ---- Trackers Lurking: 1 Free Invoke ---- No.17 PILOT ASPECTS Self View: Humanity's Product Social Type: Silent, Investigative Type Trauma: Occupational Paranoia Pilot Style: The Second Route of Assassination Dream: Freed of the Bonds of Duty SKILLS +4: Melee +3: Agility, Toughness +2: Investigation, Situational Awareness, Mental Fortitude +1: Contacts, Mechanics, Medical, Diplomacy Stunts: Martial Exemplar: +1 Free Invocation when performing Melee-related CaAs Whirling Dervish: When being attacked by more than one individual enemy, gain +2 to Melee Trained Bodyguard: Once per combat, take a single attack meant for someone else in the same zone, defending with half stats(minimum of 1) ---- Mecha: Lie Vante Lie Vante Design Concept: Melee-Focused Assassin Design Flaw: "Get me closer so I can hit them with my sword!" 4. No.17 The soft, reassuring hum of Lie Vante always managed to relax No.17 by inestimably small degrees, even though arguably, he was in more danger. Here, the qualities of the pilot did matter, but not so much as the mettle of the machine. Still, exchanging brief communiques with Remy, he nodded. Lie Vante entered Entrance Alpha after the scanning had concluded, treading lightly with cam-shielding engaged. ---- Action: Stealth CaA ---- Trackers ---- No.17 PILOT ASPECTS Self View: Humanity's Product Social Type: Silent, Investigative Type Trauma: Occupational Paranoia Pilot Style: The Second Route of Assassination Dream: Freed of the Bonds of Duty SKILLS +4: Melee +3: Agility, Toughness +2: Investigation, Situational Awareness, Mental Fortitude +1: Contacts, Mechanics, Medical, Diplomacy Stunts: Martial Exemplar: +1 Free Invocation when performing Melee-related CaAs Whirling Dervish: When being attacked by more than one individual enemy, gain +2 to Melee Trained Bodyguard: Once per combat, take a single attack meant for someone else in the same zone, defending with half stats(minimum of 1) ---- Mecha: Lie Vante Lie Vante Design Concept: Melee-Focused Assassin Design Flaw: "Get me closer so I can hit them with my sword!" 5. No.17 "...Politics" Normally, nobody would have heard the faintest murmur leave No.17's lips, save for Remy through her communicator. No.17's voice was wry with irony and a hint of weary contempt. He had begun, unconsciously, down that most particular route unique to intelligence agents and similarly grey agents of the state, who began to recognize the inherent flaws that such policies might produce. When the civilians began turning against them, No.17 pulled out an extendable baton and extended it length-wise, using it to push back the crowd. He wasn't about to lay about it just yet, but he was certainly shoving the most eager ones away in an attempt to clear up space for an escape with the Principal. ---- Action: Defending with Melee: Result of 6, Normal Success ---- Trackers ---- No.17 PILOT ASPECTS Self View: Humanity's Product Social Type: Silent, Investigative Type Trauma: Occupational Paranoia Pilot Style: The Second Route of Assassination Dream: Freed of the Bonds of Duty SKILLS +4: Melee +3: Agility, Toughness +2: Investigation, Situational Awareness, Mental Fortitude +1: Contacts, Mechanics, Medical, Diplomacy Stunts: Martial Exemplar: +1 Free Invocation when performing Melee-related CaAs Whirling Dervish: When being attacked by more than one individual enemy, gain +2 to Melee Trained Bodyguard: Once per combat, take a single attack meant for someone else in the same zone, defending with half stats(minimum of 1) ---- Mecha: Lie Vante Lie Vante Design Concept: Melee-Focused Assassin Design Flaw: "Get me closer so I can hit them with my sword!" 6. No.17 "..." No.17 was silent as he watched the suspect cuffed and roughly handled into the back of a waiting van, no doubt armored and with an escort to take them to some very dark and cramped cells. However, there was the faintest of frowns present on his face. In his mind, if the intel had been better, perhaps they could have bagged the lot of them, and neatly transported them down to hidden facilities where they could be made to speak far more quickly and efficiently than the law would allow. Raising a hand, he waved lightly to indicate that he was alright, ignoring the twinge of pain in his side. The wound was light and could be tended to early on. Moving forward, he began slipping through the commotion to get to the VIP, in order to escort her out. ---- Action: None ---- Trackers ---- No.17 PILOT ASPECTS Self View: Humanity's Product Social Type: Silent, Investigative Type Trauma: Occupational Paranoia Pilot Style: The Second Route of Assassination Dream: Freed of the Bonds of Duty SKILLS +4: Melee +3: Agility, Toughness +2: Investigation, Situational Awareness, Mental Fortitude +1: Contacts, Mechanics, Medical, Diplomacy Stunts: Martial Exemplar: +1 Free Invocation when performing Melee-related CaAs Whirling Dervish: When being attacked by more than one individual enemy, gain +2 to Melee Trained Bodyguard: Once per combat, take a single attack meant for someone else in the same zone, defending with half stats(minimum of 1) ---- Mecha: Lie Vante Lie Vante Design Concept: Melee-Focused Assassin Design Flaw: "Get me closer so I can hit them with my sword!" 7. No.17 Now that the crowd had begun to move, however, it was No.17's element. He was everywhere and nowhere at once, a grey blur making ample use of the panicked droves of civilians, ingrained training kicking into action. Lunging, No.17 knocked the pistol up towards the air with his knife's edge, before executing a lightning backhand stroke towards the man's tendons. ---- Defense roll: Melee Defense SWS Melee roll to try and subdue the man: +10 after using Boost and Free Invoke from the recent CaA ---- Trackers ---- No.17 PILOT ASPECTS Self View: Humanity's Product Social Type: Silent, Investigative Type Trauma: Occupational Paranoia Pilot Style: The Second Route of Assassination Dream: Freed of the Bonds of Duty SKILLS +4: Melee +3: Agility, Toughness +2: Investigation, Situational Awareness, Mental Fortitude +1: Contacts, Mechanics, Medical, Diplomacy Stunts: Martial Exemplar: +1 Free Invocation when performing Melee-related CaAs Whirling Dervish: When being attacked by more than one individual enemy, gain +2 to Melee Trained Bodyguard: Once per combat, take a single attack meant for someone else in the same zone, defending with half stats(minimum of 1) ---- Mecha: Lie Vante Lie Vante Design Concept: Melee-Focused Assassin Design Flaw: "Get me closer so I can hit them with my sword!" 8. No.17 "I am not obligated to preserve your physical health in any manner." No.17 said calmly to the man, even as he pulled out a blade to ward off the weapon. 9. No.17 "Intercepting." With the sudden turn of events, No.17 promptly utilized something that abruptly caused the crowd to part somewhat ahead of him, travellers letting out yells of surprise at the things slinking by their ankles. He took the time to bolt through that gap towards the intruders, trying to apprehend them swiftly before they got off a shot. ---- Action: Rolling the Athletics Roll Result: 2 Adding 2 from Encouraged, adding an additional 2 for invoking Trained Bodyguard, getting a result of +6 in total, enough to succeed. ---- Trackers ---- No.17 PILOT ASPECTS Self View: Humanity's Product Social Type: Silent, Investigative Type Trauma: Occupational Paranoia Pilot Style: The Second Route of Assassination Dream: Freed of the Bonds of Duty SKILLS +4: Melee +3: Agility, Toughness +2: Investigation, Situational Awareness, Mental Fortitude +1: Contacts, Mechanics, Medical, Diplomacy Stunts: Martial Exemplar: +1 Free Invocation when performing Melee-related CaAs Whirling Dervish: When being attacked by more than one individual enemy, gain +2 to Melee Trained Bodyguard: Once per combat, take a single attack meant for someone else in the same zone, defending with half stats(minimum of 1) ---- Mecha: Lie Vante Lie Vante Design Concept: Melee-Focused Assassin Design Flaw: "Get me closer so I can hit them with my sword!" 10. No.17 "Searching for my lost things now. I'm sure I'll find them soon." 11. Somewhere in the crush of bodies, No.17 did something that abruptly made the closest to him raise an eyebrow, before blanching and turning away, giving him enough space to tap the commlink in his ear. "Ah, another rat problem? Get an exterminator with a decent terrier. The dogs won't be much use in actually catching the rats, sure, but they're useful to flush out the prey. When they bark loudly and scrabble at holes, you can wait on the other side to catch the rats or dispose of them. if you can't manage it, wait for me to come over and help you, after this little vacation I'm taking." He spoke in a soft, conversational manner, just in case he was being listened in on. Meanwhile, 17 decided to blend a bit further into the crowd, and begin slowly sliding towards sector 9. CAA with 1 free Invoke, Getting Ready to Pounce
  12. No.17 had taken the liberty of donning some normal civilian clothes, dying his hair blonde, and adding in blue eye contacts to hide the strange grey shade of his eyes. He was currently sifting through the crowd, keeping an eye out for any other suspicious individuals that looked like they may or may not be inching closer towards the principals. He did have sniper support from Remy, so that was vaguely comforting at least.
  13. After checking the menu briefly, No.17 exchanged a few bills in local currency for two sticks of sugar-dusted sin, biting into his churro and managing to chew expressionlessly, despite the delectably soft pastry coupled with the decadently sweet mixture it had been baked from. Glancing around at the park, No.17 handed the other churro to Remy, nodding to the general area around them. "Let us eat while walking. We may as well make a shopping trip out of it," He said, clearly intent on scouting out more of the city rather than simply sitting in a park and taking his break normally.
  14. With a faint air of surprise, No.17 took stock of his own traditional grey suit, which while not necessarily military, was hardly the sort of thing a civilian tourist would be wearing on an outing in a foreign city. After a few long seconds of contemplating his looming de-suitedness, he nodded in agreement, almost sadly. Then he would go off to find someplace to change into some clothes of questionable providence.
  15. Nodding, No.17 glanced over at Remy, raising an eyebrow. "There is a place that sells good churros a few blocks away in the city. Should we go and see if its reputation is deserved?" His tone was as monotone as always, but it appeared like he intended on taking Remy with him to scout out the city further, and try to pin down where that man had gone.
  16. After a few seconds of radio silence, which No.17 spent to try and look for the mystery man, he reluctantly broke off the chase and responded to Remy. "Just continue setting up, and keep the pathways in mind. If anyone approaches your position, take all precautionary measures to ensure your own safety and the safety of the principal. I will remain with the crowd in case they try for a direct assault upon this position, but I suspect sabotage is at play."
  17. Watching the man take pictures of the squad, No.17 tapped his comms as he slid through the crowd after the suspicious individual. "Blue Team. You have been spotted. Initiating pursuit of target. Do not stop the ceremony or deviate from established course of actions yet."
  18. Although this was a foreign place to No.17, it would have been lying to say that he had no training in navigating rough and non-standard environments. Climbing up rifts of jagged metal, narrow stairways that were rusted and partially shattered, and flimsy makeshift bridges, they arrived on the rooftop. With the Blue Team safely delivered, he turned back towards them with his usual look. "I take it you can secure the perimeter? I work better down below, within arm's reach of any threats."
  19. Before the flight had taken off, No.17 looked up the map of the expected public location, along with estimated force strength and variable organizations that had interests in the local region. It was always best to be prepared, and even something as small as a fire escape route might prove vital for funneling a VIP or getting closer to a threat. He worked best close-up, after all.
  20. No.17 inspected the casing with a trained eye as it was passed over, frowning. Something about the mission seemed...Off. Surely NATO had far more infantrymen and normal specialists than they did Pilots. After all, it was those who were in short supply. And yet to be asked to be led away from their personal Mechs, to guard a corporate exec on their way to a seemingly routine business meeting...Either this had been set up by conspirators behind the scenes, or it spoke volumes of the budget cuts NATO had been forced to make to keep their existing Mechs running. Both scenarios were equally concerning in their own right, but he merely accepted the new roles they had been slotted into with a nod. If nothing else, they would be someplace with very few entries and exits to guard, so nobody should be able to sneak up on them easily.
  21. After reading the mission file several times, the implied wording suggested heavily that this was but a routine mission, a milk run as it were, in order to satisfy the nervousness of a high-value VIP. It was not expected that they would have to enter direct combat, or do anything else than sip spiced tea whilst shadowing the young executive. Which, of course, meant that No.17 armed himself with his usual choice of hidden and innocuous weaponry, before heading out after a brief warm-up session at the virtual sparring halls to relax his muscles. All Numbered agents were conditioned to react to combat with unconsciously trained skill, but it was best to make sure that he was still up to par. As far as he knew, Remy was a pilot first and foremost, which meant that he would need to deal with any threats comprehensively before they could threat either Glencore or his partner. Heading down to the hangar, he fell into step besides her, his particular suit for the occasion extra-starched.
  22. Watching Houston walk away, No.17 regarded the now empty room with an uninterested gaze. After checking that Lie Vante was still being maintained at combat readiness, he projected out a palm-sized holograph of the Earth, inspecting red points dotted across the globe, all indicators of Kaiju assaults. There appeared to be no pattern to the slowly increasing numbers save for the fact that with every dead Mecha, there was one less to combat further monsters. At length, he turned his attention away from the display towards Remy, raising an eyebrow at her. "In a combat scenario, I would assume you to take the usual place as a sniper and observer? Although with only the two of us, that placement can be dangerous considering that Lie Vante is designed for melee."
  23. Watching the live feed with the others, No.17 didn't appear surprised at the turn of events being shown, nor at the evident outcome. It was the unfortunate reality when an estimated number of Mecha were outnumbered overall by Kaiju, and yet were forced to fight on less than even terms, necessitating teams. Lie Vante had been drawn up precisely to answer such a scenario as a stopgap measure, the developers planning for a specialized Mecha and Pilot being able to drag a Kaiju down...Even if said Mecha was also ruined in the process.   At the order for their suits to be made functional, however, No.17 inched his eyebrow upwards just a hint. He didn't have much information to draw upon in the Congo, but it seemed their CO expected trouble. With a nod, No.17 acknowledged the order, sending out an order to the hangar for Lie Vante's systems to be revitalized and cleared for combat. "We are to remain here? No orders for reassignment or active objectives. Resources can hardly afford to be neglected."   No.17's comments were devoid of judgement or emotion, simply truth.
  24. Several seconds went on in silence as No.17 cocked his head slightly to the side, his brain appearing to try to wrap itself around the concept of not being a unit in practicality, despite being one in name. He'd been aware of their rather fragmented nature and purpose as individual pilots, but had merely considered those to be external forces, rather than directly affecting how they might be as a deployable unit. "Hmm. I suppose practical standards and the battle records demand that efficiency-wise, we would more be considered a gathering of individuals than a single operating unit," He admitted, before raising an eyebrow at Remy's observation. "An efficient viewpoint, although we can always affect the larger picture. It's simply what we'd be willing to pay in return. I suppose difference in training doctrines also accounted for our lack of success as a cohort. Rather difficult to meld together separate doctrines into a conglomerate whole."
  25. "When the unit is reduced to below half, which by most military doctrines is effectively non-existent in terms of capability, one should ensure that the remaining half is in good shape, if nothing else." No.17 remarked, with the faintest hint of a wry tone in his voice. A few seconds later, "Several....Reputable sources also indicate that military operations are going poorly for NATO. The normal resource-bickering, but worsened by civilian death counts and faction fractures. It is likely that logistical resources, amenities, and benefits will decrease in the near future, while danger will increase proportionally for us. What do you make of the situation?"
