Lassen - Human Swashbuckler 1 AC (CMD): 14 (14) | HP: 12/12 | Init: +3 | Prcptn DC: 14 | Fort: +1 | Ref: +5 | Will: 0 | Speed: 30 |   Seeing the situation rapidly unfolding in a way he did not expect, Lassen drops all pretense of being bound. Trying to draw the guard's attention away by showing his hands free, Lassen shouts, Guard, both of us have our hands free. Your best hope is to drop your weapon! Then to Tannus and his unfamiliar companion who, Lassen notes, seems to be not an enemy: Tannus, hold fire if he drops his weapon! He saved our lives by providing water, and he has not been rough with us.

He whispers a quick aside to Jinx: Let's keep hidden for now that our bonds are free. Then he struggles to get to his feet, hoping that his awkwardness in keeping his untied hands behind his back looks as awkward as if they were tied. Once on his feet, he shouts to Tannus in a rush of words, Well met, Tannus! We had almost given up on seeing you again! Who is your friend? Do you have any food?  

- Human Swashbuckler 1 AC (CMD): 14 (14) | HP: 12/12 | Init: +3 | Prcptn DC: 14 | Fort: +1 | Ref: +5 | Will: 0 | Speed: 30 | Lassen slowly moves closer to Jinx so that he can get at her bonds once his are free. He pauses frequently to gauge the attentiveness of the guard, hoping not to alert him to anything amiss. Once he is close enough to Jinx, with his own hands free, he whispers: I agree that we should not attack the guard. But I also don't want to make him any more nervous than he is, so try to keep hidden the fact that your hands are free. Let's wait to see what happens when he is ready to leave, but I like the idea of offering to join forces with him. Once he realizes our bonds are off, I hope it will work in our favor that we have not been aggressive. Once that is accomplished, Lassen will remain where he is, trying to compose himself to rest and see what happens.

Waiting until he thinks the guard is at least inattentive, if not asleep, he whispers to Jinx: I've got my bonds close to being untied. I can probably help you with yours if we get a few minutes of not being watched. What do you think we should do?

He accepts the water gratefully, trying hard not to drink too greedily. After he drinks, Lassen waits until the guard has backed up a couple of steps, then he says, Is there a water source in this cave? Do you know anything else about it? It looks like a ruin of some sort, definitely not altogether natural. Have you seen any clues about the people that lived here in the past, or any signs of recent activity? Then he stops abruptly and chuckles. I know that's a lot of questions. I am just trying to figure out what has happened in the past day or two, and any clue I can gather might help me puzzle it out.

 

- Human Swashbuckler 1 AC (CMD): 14 (14) | HP: 12/12 | Init: +3 | Prcptn DC: 14 | Fort: +1 | Ref: +5 | Will: 0 | Speed: 30 | Noticing that the guard seems anxious, Lassen begins to develop an inkling of a plan. The main thing is not to seem or act threatening. Hah! Threatening? Nearly dead of thirst, tied up in a cave? But maybe I can convince our guard we are on the same side, or at the least not enemies. Lassen first ensures that his hands are underneath his body. Then he calls out to the guard: Ho there, do you think we might have a bit more water? We sent our other friends off in the direction of what looked like a lake in hopes of finding water. Do you know anything about them? Did they make it? Are they alive? If you have any news of them, we would like to hear it. I can assure you, neither we nor they mean you any harm. Lassen pauses for a bit, to see what reaction he gets from the guard. Proceeding with his plan, whether or not the guard comes closer, he continues in as conversational a voice as he can muster under the circumstances: By the sound of your voice, you are a Norlunnder like me. How did you come to this place? I have a strange story to tell, and I wonder if yours is similar. Lassen will make no threatening moves, or reveal his success at loosening his bonds, whatever the reaction of the guard.

 

- Human Swashbuckler 1 AC (CMD): 14 (14) | HP: 12/12 | Init: +3 | Prcptn DC: 14 | Fort: +1 | Ref: +5 | Will: 0 | Speed: 30 | Lassen fades into and out of consciousness for a time...a few minutes?...a few hours?...but his rest and the small doses of water he has been slowly erase some of his fatigue and restore some of his mental focus. As his eyes open again, blinking against the brightness of the fire, he looks carefully at the size of the blaze and the surrounding ashes. OK, so probably more like a few hours than a few minutes. I wonder if it is night outside yet, or maybe even morning? Shifting his position a bit, he tries to sight toward the corridor that opens to the cave entrance. But to no avail. In doing so he notices, perhaps, a slight looseness in the bonds around his wrists. A knot tied not quite tight enough? He decides to find out, working the knot surreptitiously against the floor underneath him. Thinking back to what Jinx told him about the conversation he overheard, he tries to recall the voices. Well, they were speaking my language at least. Any discernible accent? Listening carefully for signs of movement or voices from his captors, Lassen alternates between working on his bonds and lying still to listen for anything sounds he might be able to interpret.

 

 

- Human Swashbuckler 1 AC (CMD): 14 (14) | HP: 12/12 | Init: +3 | Prcptn DC: 14 | Fort: +1 | Ref: +5 | Will: 0 | Speed: 30 | With a nod and a shrug toward Frood, takes a slow step backward and in a direction to make himself more visible to the men at the corridor opening. He drops his spear and raises arms above shoulder level, fingers pointing upward. He speaks in a voice loud enough to be heard, but not loud enough to sound threatening. Not that he is any shape to seem, or even to sound, threatening. I'm Lassen, this is Frood. We are the only two up here. We have three or four friends that are headed this direction, maybe even down below the cave opening by now. They were in bad shape when I came up the slope. He pauses to regain his breath and his composure, then continues: I hope they are still alive; some may not have survived to make it this far. If they are still alive, they need help quickly. Water and shade immediately, I think. I can help get them up here, but not before I get some water.
