  1. So after three months, is it safe to say this game has gone the way of the dodo?

Instead, he seemed much more interested in what everyone else around him was saying. He of course made it clear that he was indeed listening as they each gave their brief soliloquies. You know, a polite smile at the lighter beats, a knowing nod at others; all the sorts of things one would expect from a good listener. His sharply manicured brow did perk up a time or two as well. This was particularly true when Brakhammer described the final encounter between Humbert and Kazin, and again when Ariand introduced herself in full. It was only then that he broke his silence, but only to introduce himself in kind. "A pleasure to meet you. Killian Evanero of the Royal House of Evanero of Emhain Albach," he stated simply, bowing his head lightly as his normally muted elvish accent became thick and musical at the end. Interestingly, and while most of you have of course heard him introduce himself numerous times before, it was extraordinarily rare for him to mention the elven kingdom from which he haled. Indeed, he rarely spoke of his homeland at all, as the magically concealed Valley of the Apple Trees was often considered to be more of a fable than a reality, even in a world as fantastical as this one. With that said, he immediately returned to the role of a listener. For his part, Killian's familiar, Perianwyr still had a most cantankerous look on his face after having been woken from his slumber. Peeking out from inside his best friend's vest, the faerie hatchling sort of wrinkled his face grumpily at the golden kitten who was unknowingly responsible. But before he could do anything about it, his little nose sort of twitched a bit. Looking down, he saw the half-full mug of Korova Cream that Killian had been nursing. With a slurpy-sounding lick of his lips he dove straight in, splashing a small bit on the table in the process. Immediately thereafter, the foam inside began to quickly diminish as he glugged away from within. It was clear Peri liked what he found. A moment later, his head popped up as he propped his front paws against the rim of the tankard; a foamy pompadour proudly if unknowingly resting atop his head. The knight-errant of Findeladlara looked down and smiled amusedly while shaking his head. He reached down to wipe away the literal beer head before licking his finger clean. Peri purred in the way only a dragon could at the affectionate gesture, then rested his head atop his paws as he, too, focused on listening to the others. Mechanics COMMON SKILLS Bonuses: Linguistics +8, Perception (Unlocked) +20, Sense Motive +14, Stealth +17. Concentration: +5, +8 with Enhancement or Telekinesis effects or +10 if he's boosted the enhancement bonus of his implement. Passive Scores: Linguistics 18, Perception 30, Sense Motive 24, Stealth 27. OTHER CONSIDERATIONS Escape Techniques: Emergency WarpAs an immediate action, Killian can spend a spell point to teleport 15' away.. Fated Birth: HermitAs a swift action, Killian can aid another on himself, granting a +4 bonus to many checks.. Invisibility: Killian's familiar, Perianwyr, can create an Illusion (Suppression) effect that affects sight, sound, and scent. Phrenic Techniques: AutohypnosisAs an immediate action, the ascendant mind may use a limited form of mind control on herself. She may reroll a concentration check she just made. She must keep the second result, even if it is lower than the first., HypercognitionThe ascendant mind can connect to higher sources of knowledge. When she rolls a Knowledge check, she may use this ability as a free action to reroll a check, with an insight bonus equal to her phrenic ability modifier. She must accept the second result, even if it is lower than the first.. Senses: Darkvision 150', Emotional BondYou can create an empathic link between yourself and your allies, allowing you to monitor their emotional states. Setting up the link requires 10 minutes of uninterrupted concentration from you and all subjects, Who must remain within 10 feet of you. You can link with a number of allies equal to your Charisma modifier. This bond lasts until the next time you regain your spells, or until you go unconscious or voluntarily end the bond as a free action. If the bond ends, you can establish a new bond at will with another 10 minutes of mutual concentration. This link allows you to monitor emotions, detecting when allies become angry, surprised, confused, fearful, or the like, but doesn’t allow them to communicate specific details. You can also easily tell whether a subject is unconscious. If a subject dies or moves to a different plane than you, your bond with that creature is severed. The distance between you and the subjects doesn’t affect the bond as long as you’re on the same plane of existence. At 4th level, the bond also gives you the benefits of the spell with all subjects of the emotional bond., Keen Senses (see ×4 distance in mist/fog/etc.), Low-Light Vision, Scent. Emotional Bond: This allows Killian to sense everyone's current emotions, distance, direction, and any conditions affecting them as long as they are on the same plane. He forms this bond each morning with all four party members, plus Perianwyr and one of the familiars (usually Clem as he has a penchant for leaving Lucrezia's side more than Bolt does). If the psychic kitty ends up joining us, he will probably be the prime candidate in the future due to the lack of a mystical bond to anyone in the group. OOC Notes Killian is trying to get a read on what both Brakhammer and Ariand have said. I'm not sure how this works in Pathfinder as they only have a Sense Motive skill but no Insight or Investigation-type abilities that I can think of. As such, I'm just going to make a Wisdom check for both, and if Sense Motive applies, he gains a +14 to each roll. I'll also be using my Fated Birth (Hermit) ability with it, boosting the checks by +4 (or a total of +18 for Sense Motive). For Brakhammer, his interest is piqued by what he said Kazin cackled. I'm mostly trying to see if Killian gets the same hunch that I did; that Kazin transformed or moved Humbert's consciousness into a clockwork creation, perhaps even an actual clock. If successful, he'll be keeping a sharp eye for anything along those lines while visiting the Manor. For Ariand, he's mostly just suspicious about how eager she is to join them in visiting the Hollow. The timing just screams "sus" to me as a player. The first roll is for Brakhammer (15, or 27 for Sense Motive), the second for Ariand (13, or 25 for Sense Motive). Oh, and since they're both talking with the group now, he'll use Sense Enemy again, especially with Ariand. EDIT: Oh, I'd also like to make a Knowledge (Local) check on both of them (Brakhammer 18, Ariand 18) to see if he knows much of anything. He'll be using his Fated Birth ability for these checks as well.

That eternal smile of his was beaming at the mechanical marvel the entire time as he studied its every intricacy. Humbert truly was a master of his craft. "Well that's good to know, thank you!" He looked read to ask something else, most likely for directions to Humbert's manor, but the automaton was quick to excuse himself; a fact that paladin understood completely given how busy the tavern was that evening. Fortunately, he was immediately sidetracked as a sweet voice filled his mind. With only a mild look of surprise, he turned towards Valros' lap before smiling even more brightly. He then extended a solitary finger to the kitten as if to shake its paw. "Well hello there," he replied to the kitten, projecting his thoughts once it touched his finger. "You must forgive me, I would have asked your permission if I knew you could speak. But I'm glad you enjoyed the experience, it was entirely my pleasure to offer it. I only know too well how unlikable it is to be muck and wet." As an afterthought, he quickly added, "The name's Killian, by the by. It's very nice to meet you." Later, when Lucrezia was making her way back, Killian gave a bit of a gasp when he saw Martin's little malfunction. His heart immediately sank as he listened to the clockwork golem's profuse and sincere apologies. He desperately wanted to reach out and comfort him, but Martin was far too quick to make his escape. So instead, Killian just sat there, frowning for the first time that day. Perhaps Humbert wasn't quite as skilled as he previously assumed after all. Regardless, when the dhampyr did finally return to the table, Killian looked over her injury. His smile returned, albeit more weakly than before, when he saw that it was already patching itself up. "Allow me," he said before reaching out to run a finger--the same he had greeted the kitten with just a munite prior--along the circumference of the hole that had been made in her gown. While sensual, there was nothing romantic about the touch so much as it was simply soft and nurturing. As he did so, a tiny, multicolored sparkle followed the trail he made, and when he pulled his hand back, the tear immediately began to mend itself. The prepare wasn't as pretty as it could be, but at least it would hold for now. It was only then that he heard the gruff voice of the man in the booth. Taking his mug in hand, he turned and looked in his direction, not at all surprised to find a cloaked figure there. "Oloré," he spoke in his direction, a traditional elven greeting translating roughly as "merrily met." "Why would you say that, my friend? I've only ever heard good things of Lord Humbert." As he awaited a reply, the elvish orc hybrid could feel some wriggling around inside his vest. A moment later, a very cantankerous-looking faerie dragon poked his head out of a pocket. Reaching up with one of his paws, Perianwyr wiped the sleep out of his eyes and looked around for the source of the buzzing that woke him up from his slumber. While the paladin rarely had any physical need to eat, he did enjoy their worldly pleasures from time to time, particularly after having been on the road for several weeks. The novelty of hardtack, dried fruits, and other common trail staples could only satisfy his love of culinary delights for so long, after all. So when the opportunity came to indulge himself, he most certainly did! Thus it was to absolutely no one's surprise that he had already began to tuck in even before the serving wench had time to leave. A moment later when Martin arrived and began to perform his serving routine, the paladin paused long enough to give a gentle applause as a genuinely delighted expression found its way onto his face. His smile only broadened when the foamy libation began to pour forth from the automaton's spigotted forefinger. "Oh, how charming," he complimented, laughing lightly as the mugs filled to the brim. "A marvelous trick, that is!" There was a beat as Martin came to the conclusion of his task. "Forgive me, but if it's not too terribly rude of me to ask, you wouldn't happen to know a magus by the name of Humbert, would you? My friends here and I were hoping to meet him and possibly tend to some business." The gloomkin suspected that he already knew the answerI rolled a 26 and 28 respectively for his Knowledge (Arcana) and (Engineering) checks in the dice thread., but decorum demanded that he nevertheless ask. After Martin left the table, Killian noticed the kitten that had crawled up onto Valros' lap. While taking a long, slow draw from his Korova Cream—oh! that is a delight!—he brought his free hand up and sort of gestured lightly in the air. By the time he lowered it back down to his lap, the kitten's fur had poofed out a bit from the sudden cleaning and drying ithad just received courtesy of Killian's simple little cantrip. With a smile, he looked up into Valros' eyes. "You look like you could do with a bit of a drying off yourself. Do you mind?" He brought his hand up again in preparation for a repeat performance. At 4th level, the bond also gives you the benefits of the status spell with all subjects of the emotional bond., Keen Senses (see ×4 distance in mist/fog/etc.), Low-Light Vision, Scent. Special: Unless anyone objects, it should be assumed that Killian creates an emotional bond with all of the party members and both Perianwyr and let's go with Clem since Bolt rarely seems to leave Lance's side. And also because Clem's persnickety attitude amuses him to no end. He does this every morning after finishing his reverie and/or while they are sleeping unless otherwise stated.
  6. The dice, they be rollin' as Killian ponders Martin while he serves them. Actually, I'm going to use his Hypercognition class feature on both of those rolls. It allowed him to reroll as a free action, with a +6 insight bonus.

The handsome knight could only sigh inwardly at the likely inevitability of that happening again after the last handful of times she had gotten into one of her, hrm, let's call it "moods." Fortunately, his attention quickly shifted when Valros returned his handshake. In return the gloomkin bowed his head out of respect of the tiefling's conscious effort to be gentle. He definitely liked the cut of this man's jib already. After the crimson warrior took a seat, Killian did as well, this time switching to where Lucrezia had been sitting so that he could keep a better eye on her. Almost as if on cue, the telltale glint of his holy symbol caught the light and sparkled whimsically when he bowed his head respectfully at the fellow warrior. Between Bolt, Clem, and Peri, their familirs were certainly a handful to be sure, but oh how they made life so much more interesting. Note also that the entries that refer to art and artists also refer to architecture and architects as appropriate. It should also be noted that paladins of Findeladlara are more morally ambiguous than others. While cold-blooded murder and other crimes of that ilk are as abhorant to them as anyone, her champions are willing to bend the rules if the cause is just. For example, stealing for a noble goal is perfectly acceptable to them, and even aiding known villains and criminals in the pursuit of the greater good or to convert them to the light is not only fine by them, but something that they eagerly pursue to mirror their goddess's conversion of the succubus . Not surprisingly, her followers share a close bond with those of the Redeemer Queen., Findeladlara Str 14, Dex 14, Con 14, Int 14, Wis 14, Cha 22 AC 22 (Flat 20, Touch 14) · Fort +12, Ref +10, Will +17 · BAB +5 · Init +4 · CMB +23, CMD 30 · MSB +5(+8), MSD 16(19) Spell Pool 26 · Phrenic Pool 8 · Hero Points 3 · Combat Stamina 5 · Lay on Hands 8 · Smite Enemy 2 Immune: Disease, Fear · Resistances: Spell Resistance 22, advantage on Poison saves Conditions: Healthy Active Sphere Effects: None Currently Ever the optimist, Killian nevertheless felt the somber 'greyness' of the town deep within his soul; the sheer lack of artistry on display was completely anathema to everything he stood for. He also couldn't help but question the stories he'd heard about how the town was founded in part by his kinfolk; it seemed highly unlikely that their descendants, muddled as their blood may have become, would allow such dreariness to dominate their lives. It certainly didn't help that the bad weather had already put him in an unpleasant mood, too. Well, as unpleasant as he ever gets anyway. Nor did the saddle sores he could feel creeping into existence betwixt his thighs; sopping wet clothes plus chaffing leather wasn't exactly a pleasant combination. Together, it was enough to put anyone into a foul mood, and Killian was no exception. Regardless, the surprisingly bright colors and welcoming ruckus issuing forth from the approaching tavern was already beginning to turn the paladin's spirits. A soft smile—the first any of you had seen since breaking camp this morning—began to form on his face as the quartet made their approach. Oh, just the mere thought of a blazing hearth to dry his bones and a glass of that creamed beer that he'd been hearing about for weeks was enough to warm the cackles of his heart. And what if they had a bath available? Dare he dream such dreams?! After dismounting and tipping the androgynous young stablehand an extra silver piece, Killian gave his , Oissin, a lovingly reassuring rub along his muzzle and turned to follow the others into the Golden Gear. Similar to Lucrezia, the gloomkin's clothes seamlessly shifted from the sheepskin cloak and heavy leathers that he had been wearing in a feeble attempt to stave off the torrential downpour into the more traditionally elven finery that all of you were used to seeing on him. He reached up and ran his fingers through his tousled hair—which clearly hadn't been properly taken care of for months judging by the state of his braids, but of course that only served to make him that much more attractive—and, as he did so, a sprinkling of magic simultaneously dried him off, cleared away all of the grime and muck he had accumulated on the road, and even gave his gilded jewelry and flashy rapier a little extra polish for good measure. Judging by the growing smile on his face, he was definitely beginning to feel a lot better. It was just after the little sparkle of magic that his familiar, Perianwyr, finally poked his head out from his lair within Killian's vest and had a quick peek around. Peri's feathery antennae twitched happily upon hearing the dulcet tones coming from the cerulean bard, which in turn solicited a little scritch on the head from his friend and master. Content that they were both in a safe place, the little faerie dragon yawned and tucked himself back inside to snooze away atop his treasure hoard. Taking a seat across from Lucrezia, Killian shifted to and fro until he found just the right position to help alleviate the soreness from all that riding. Before he was able to, however, his companion's teasing caught his attention. His smile turned into a wry smirk. "Indeed. Though I cannot lie, it will be nice to not be the center of attention for once." There was a slight twinge of sadness in his voice as he said that, but he'd never admit—even to himself—how vain he truly was. Such behavior was unbecoming for a gentleman-warrior, after all. "I'll have what she's having, but with a mug of that creamy delight if for no other reason than to see if it lives up to its sterling reputation," he winked playfully after Lucrezia made her order. "And you wouldn't happen to have a hot bath available, would you?" he continued, batting his eyes hopefully. Once satisfied, Killian leaned back a bit and casually let his gold-flecked eyes drink in everything that was going on around him. OOC Notes Killian is going to make a Perception and Sense Motive check to see if anything unusual or suspect jumps out at him. He's using his normal (albeit Keen, from both the oath and origin talents) senses, and his full Scent sense is always active. And shoot, while he's at it, he'll throw a Detect EnemyThis works like except that it's a move action, he gets a full 3 rounds read instantaneously, and it senses if anyone views him as an enemy or has any sort of hostile intent towards him, as we discussed. I'm not really expecting anything in this regard, but never hurts to check in new surroundings. out just in case. So many sus things going on around here, lol. His main attention will be on the landlord, the blue-clad bard, and anyone else who seems really out of place. Strangely enough, he got a read on the bouncer as he came in and won't suspect him of anything even if his Detect Enemy goes off like a siren; dude is just doing his job. Respect. Also, please feel free to make additional rolls on your end if they're required. Perception is at +20, Sense Motive is at +14.
  13. That was totally my bad, I had meant to include that in the summary, but I was so on the verge of passing out, lol. I've amended the ending.
  14. So, how's this sound to everyone? Oh, and apologies for any typos or grammatical mistakes; it's late and I'm about ready to pass out. Also, if you like where it's going, feel free to fill out some details from your own character's points of view, and/or correct any mistakes I made in assuming anything. Lucrezia and Killian I'm thinking that the first two of us to have met up was Lucrezia and Killian. It was early in their career as adventurers (say level 2 going on 3, and maybe six months to a year prior to the start of the game). I'm not sure where they would have originally met, perhaps at some dissertation a famous artist was giving in a large city? If so, Something™ goes down—maybe some overzealous critics decided to do some nasty things to the artist, or the henchmen of the corrupt governor was trying to shut it down through nefarious means; something like that—and the two end up working together to end the disruption, much to the gathered crowd's celebrative cheers. Whatever happened, after introducing themselves and getting a solid read of one another, they decided that they shared compatible views of the world and complimented each other's skillsets, and because of that working together seemed a wise move. Since it was just the two of them, however, they couldn't exactly call themselves an adventuring company, and were instead more of "a loose partnership of convenience with similar interests." A few months and a couple of interesting adventures go by without a hitch, with their friendship growing stronger by the minute. Then one day while passing through a large town, Lucrezia heard some rumors on the street about this incredibly shifty nobleman that had been hiring even shadier n'er-do-wells to steal valuable pieces of art for him. Amongst his recent acquisitions was a rather famous tapestry that detailed the story of the construction of the elven observatories on the edge of the world. Unwilling to let that swine hoard such an important piece of history, the two conspired together and came up with a plan to reacquire it for the greater good. As they were wont to do. Enter Lance Unbeknownst to them, the wily cad Lance and his even more wily companion Bolt had made similar plans, though their target was a collection of exquisite jewelry that they were convinced would go to waste in the fat slob's vaults. Something that beautiful should be displayed proudly upon one's person! Or at least be up for sale at a local pawn shop. You know, whatever. Regardless, while Lucrezia was downstairs distracting the anything-but-nobleman and his guards with her vampish charms, both Killian and Lance were snooping around upstairs. Killian found it quite odd that all the various traps and other security features he was expecting were disabled, but he just figured his beloved goddess had simply given him her blessing and continued on without a worry in the world. After eventually finding and gathering up the tapestry, Killian was making his way back out when he heard a small commotion around the corner. Curious as always, he took a gander only to find that one of the guards had slipped away from Lucrezia's womanly ways and was doing his rounds. He had stumbled upon Lance and Bolt, both of whom were too busy trying to crack the safe to notice, and he was sneaking up to sap the larger of the two upside the head. Killian felt that the guard's actions were most unbecoming. He also had finally put two and two together regarding Lance and all the traps, and felt he owed the rogue for serving as the unwitting hand of his goddess. Thinking quickly and not wanting to give away his own position just yet, the paladin decided to use a bit of tomfoolery to help out the thief. A little wiggling of the fingers later, and a few pieces of nearby furniture and other bric-a-brac slowly lifted up off the ground as a spooky "oooOOooOoOoOoooh" sound filled the air behind the guard. Like most guards, this one was every bit the superstitious and cowardly sod. Dropping his truncheon, he gave a bit of a scream and bolted out of the room frightfully muttering something about poltergeists and not being paid enough for this drek. Both the guard's caterwauling and the ethereal ventriloquism had also garnered Lance and Bolt's attention, and they turned around with a puzzled look on their faces. That's when Killian stepped out from his hiding position. Lance could clearly see the fancy tapestry rolled up and flung over the massive half-orc's shoulder as Killian flashed a warm and gentle smile at him. The knight said something to the effect of, "as one knave to another, perhaps we should get out of here before he alerts his friends downstairs of our intrusion. I have a lovely friend of my own distracting them who will doubtlessly be making a quick exit once she realizes the jig is up, and we have a couple of horses waiting just outside. Care to tag along until the coast is clear?" Lance saw the wisdom of sticking together, at least for now, and Killian wisely followed him to the preplanned exit point the rogue had set up earlier. As the half-orc promised, Lucrezia was at their rendevous point with the horses, and the three of them quickly made off into the night while the nobleman and his guards were still trying to figure out what in the Nine Hells just happened. Traveling through the night until they were a few villages away, the trio finally took the time to find a tavern where they could get some food and relax a bit. There they talked, realized they made a pretty damn good team, and they collectively decided to stick together for a bit longer. Was a trio enough to qualify for an adventuring company? Mmm, probably not. They'd clearly need at least one or two more before they could pull that off. Several more months passed along with a handful of successful adventures. Then, after having helped a halfling village with some trouble they were having with an old wishing well (which was actually the lair of a pseudodragon that had gotten stuck at the bottom; he was giving out "wishes" in exchange for apple pies and grew too fat to get out), the would-be company found themselves entering some spooky ass woods on the way to some middle-of-nowhere village called Canismini. You see, Killian had learned some time ago that a famous but incredibly reclusive sorceress, Kasin, resided somewhere therein, and that she was friends with a famous artificer named Humbert. Having come by a letter of introduction with the sagely wizard, and realizing they were near his residence, the paladin convinced the others to travel thereto in order to see if he could convince Hubert to introduce them to Kasin, as she was said to own an extensive and incredibly valuable collection of ancient elven artwork that he hoped to acquire from her and send back to his home in Emain Ablach. Lucrezia, having heard of Humbert—himself having access to a wealth of knowledge she'd be fascinated to peruse—quickly jumped at the idea. For his part, Lance was just excited to go to see what all the excitement was about from the other two, especially after hearing the words "incredibly valuable." Trellis Shows Up So, they continued into the woods. The further they traveled, the spookier it became. After their fourth or fifth day of traveling, they set up camp and tried desperately to forget just how skincrawling this place was. While sitting around doing the various things they tended to do while camping, the trio were startled when they discovered this fascinating tree-man just shambling down the road seemingly without a care in the world. Lance was the first to react, jumping to his feet and rushing up to introduce himself to the wyrwood. Lucrezia was soon to follow, while Killian was slower to react as he was just completely taken aback at the beauty and awe of the creature; he had heard stories of their people but never thought he'd have the honor of meeting one in person. When he finally snapped out of it and came to greet the verdant being, he was quick to welcome him to their camp, as per the laws of hospitality. It was a terribly bad habit of his, but at least on this occasion Trellis—as the wyrwood introduced himself—seemed a kind and peaceful soul. If only they knew! When Trellis revealed that he, too, was heading to Canismini, the trio invited him to join them the rest of the way. After all, these woods were pretty ominous, and a large group was certainly safer than a smaller one. Besides, if things worked out, they'd be a foursome, and a foursome could totally be an adventuring company! Two more days rolled by and the group finally found themselves in Canismini. They quickly made their way to local pub, The Golden Gear. Therein, they secured a table, ordered a round of Korova Creams to see what all the hulabaloo was about, and planned their next move. And Then Came Valros Not long after their drinks arrived, a towering (to most; Killian didn't see what all the fuss was about) tiefling entered. He definitely seemed out of place, and the locals didn't seem all that thrilled to have a "half-demon" show up out of nowhere... but ol' Lance certainly seemed to recognize him. Not wanting him to feel out of place, he invited the slovenly-dressed tailor to their table and offered him a seat. If things worked out, they'd be five. And five was absolutely an adventuring company! Maybe they should start working on a name for their charter...
  15. Ah ha, I figured out the real culprit of the original problem. It was a font issue; not all platforms have Tahoma installed, which is the default font used on this site. I'm guessing you were using an Apple product when you saw the earlier weirdness? I just got my hands on one courtesy of my daughter and noticed it. Here's a bit of proof. If they don't, then your side doesn't have Tahoma. I can fix it in my next iteration by just forcing a more standard web font, but for now there isn't much I can do other than make lines shorter than they need to be. Well, I mean, I could go through and change the fonts now, but it'd be a ton of work and I don't have the heart for it, lol. That said, I did shorten a few things up, so the character sheet itself should be looking a bit better now. It will still run off the screen on some browers (mostly tablets and phones), but that's something else that can't easily be fixed until my next attempt at building the sheet. The issue with his statblock is due to the different widths used by PCs/tablets/phones, so not much I can do there even after forcing a specific font. Unlike the sheet, I can't (well I can, but I won't) force a specific width, so I'll just have to endure the slight ugliness due to the word wrapping. <dramatically places the back of his hand against his forehead> Stupid mobile-friendliness. 😡
