  1. (Sorry, I'm very absent these days. Have the amendments. I'll give a little extra voting time. Let's say by Tuesday evening give or take) GCC Amendment No Elect, regardless of points earned in the race to become Patron, may become Patron if they were Patron in the current or previous cycle of selection. In effect, 12 years must pass before any one elect might be eligible after they pass the Patronage off. They may still submit to the Arkhive and be ranked accordingly." ARK Amendment, with encouragement from CUS No Patron may instruct to Arkhive to swear fealty to any power (vassalize action/mechanics).

  3. 🐝A.P.I.S. Presents🐝 The Fourth Hexenniel Conference for the Liberation of Knowledge and Fostering of Growth in Sansar The Meligogue Conclave An introduction to religion in the Arkhive, the practice and process of mellification, and the sacred duty of the Meligogues The Arkhive Æternal has no state religion, though the practice of Coedd is a fundamental cornerstone of the landscape. Even those who do not worship Coedd know the omnipresent nature deity to be a basic truth of the planet which bears the same name. This regularly places the Arkhive on lists of Coeddite powers, and no one but particularly unsubtly attention-seeking scholars would dispute that. Coedd is the dominant religion of the Arkhive, and that is unchanging. Unchanging too, however, is something deeper and more fundamental to Arkhvie spirituality. The highest calling in the Arkhive Æternal is mellification, and the entering of a person's memories and knowledge into the greater pool of understanding is the guidepoint of all Arkhive cosmology. No, mellification is required of no one, though all Librarians and Queens undergo the process, much like the slim majority of residents. However, the fact of it, experienced bodily and mentally through the communion of Honeyed Words and, for the few, Royal Jelly, creates a very particular understanding of the world. Mellification is an involved process. Years before death, a candidate begins to wean themselves from solid foods, consuming honey more and more. Such is the nutritive power of the Arkhive's sweet sweet juices that they continue on this way for a long time, slowly thinning out, growing golden-eyed and softened. Though they diminish into almost nothing, never do they grow sharp, their corners kept to a softness by the sweetness of their diet. Eventually, as their sweat and tears, their excreta and even their blood begin to assume a honey-like quality, the time has come. Yet living, they enter the sacred center of the Hive, and enter a great cell of honey, where the bees seal them away. Here, their bodies unite with the honey. This is not the well from which Honeyed Words are drawn. This is food for the bees, who learn and understand and know. These same bees brew the Honeyed Words and Royal Jelly separately and this is imbued with what they know. This means both that the Arkhivists do not consume their dead and that the dead can and do bring messages to the bees. When a scholar specially prepares herself to deliver this message, bearing it into the mellification process, she is known as a Meligogue, an Oracle of Honey. Ordo Roberts, the sixtieth and forty-two hundredths is one of these Meligogues on his way out. He expects but a week more to live, and has offered his services to the Hexenniel. The Queen, herself beginning the mellification process, much more slowly given the fabulous powers of her unique diet, accepts with honor. The Hexenniel Though the amendation and emendation of the Charter stands, as ever, as a purpose of the great meeting, the Queen is greatly pleased to invite all Members to a special meeting to discuss with the Oracle of Honey what might need to be brought to the bees' attention. Ordo Roberts looks at this point like a dried flower, a beautiful husk, and is willing to hear all that is said. The bees will be made aware. Opportunities: Speak to the bees! This might influence the miracles we start to do on Hives, the general trajectory of the Arkhive, maybe the eventual replacement to Connie, and most excitingly a potential to change how points are calculated. The Charter described what the Arkhive can do, but the points are entirely the will of the bees. This is the chance to change things! Mingle, chat, do diplomacy stuff. The Arkhive specifically welcomes use of itself as a forum. Constance is glad to participate or be excluded, no fear. The Arkhive Charter is going to have two proposed amendments. I'll wait for EmBark's amendment before I present mine. Every Sansarite member gets a vote (plus EmBark) Tech trade! 4. Her Arkhival Majesty, Queen Constance of Comment, steps out of a spaceship that is more cargo-transit than anything (and how does it fly?) dressed to kill. A golden tophat, Arkhive honeyyellow, shines bright like a diamond. Her dress appears at first to be an inky black thing, iridescent in the light, but close inspection would reveal millions of close-cramped words woven of black thread against a golden background, so dense that it nearly overwhelms the eye. The hypothetical observer, equipped with microscope and patience, would be able to make this out as the unpublished, unperformed script to "Space Ocean's Eleven: The 5D Musical." She also has giant spikes as shoulderpads because she just felt like it that morning. Twisting around them, anaconda like, is a spiraling honeycomb, each cell capped over but showing purple within. She holds an unlit cigarette in a long cigarette holder and it's very cool. Tipping her hat to Pung Neow and giving a wink to the spies and a smile to Siobhan, Constance walks confidently to the Black bird table. Casually setting 250chits down in a smooth motion, she says "Deal me in." If I'm right, I'm at a 20. I'm gonna hold regardless of anything, but I will chat to other players with that patented Constance commentary

  6. Local delegates, including ILU, TEA, and LSP delegates, are invited to a conference room, where, as usual, Honeyed Words, a globule of royal jelly, and a small handout await everyone. "The first order of business is one of interpretation," says Constance without preamble. "There are two tiers of Membership: Local Members (for residents of Sansar) and Visiting Members (for everyone else). So says the Charter. The question has been raised whether a "resident of Sansar" would include any polity that has significant population on the planet* or one which holds the bulk of its population on the planet or one which originates from the planet--though I pray we don't decide on this, as it would be a conference in itself to determine what that means. So, a question for everyone to consider. Does having a significant population on Coedd make a polity a "resident of Sansar?" Though there is no mechanism for deciding in the Charter, I will exercise my authority to determine the exception: every polity represented in this room, including the one which could be excluded by the decision, holds a vote (excepting, as always, the Arkhive). Simple majority is sufficient. "For those that remain, two amendments. The Llort propose the Freedom From Religion Amendment, and I present the Fair Labor Practices Amendment." Freedom From Religion The Arkhive cannot convert outside of Sansar, except for regions belonging de facto to their Patron Fair Labor Practices The Arkhive cannot hold, make use of, or act in any way to support the acquisition or use of involuntary (slave) labor. "The argument for or against the Freedom From Religion Amendment is not mine to make. As for Fair Labor, we have seen the enormous impact that controversy over coercive labor has had on our system, and it is central to the Arkhive's continued success that it not be seen to be partisan. Further, while we cannot speak for, commend, or condemn other civilizations, our small state is grateful to enjoy a relatively meritocratic equality, outside of apian election." *OOC holds a region, to be absolutely clear
  7. Constance sits back and enjoys the spectacle, genuinely pleased for her small Hive's allies. The StarTC would continue to fill the promises started by the STC, and serve to unite a Tekhum that sometimes seemed more than a little fractious. A more diplomatically calculating part of her mind is also happy to have a show here of mutual support between the Arkhive and Burtzland. Between BEES and the StarTC reveal, any impression of disunity in the wake of the confessional dispute some years back would be papered over. Let the system see that the Arkhivists and the STAR RATS stand together. She raises her meadShe, in fact, is only seen to consume honey products at the event in congratulation, nodding personably to the Exalted when some eyes look her way. Victory. There's a certain resignation to some forms of happiness and a grief in some joys. It is a rare smile that, though genuine, does not reach the eyes. Siobhan must be special, if Garrick sent her, certainly. While even Constance knows that the prophet's mind was not at all times and in all ways sound, she had only iron trust in his discernment in matters of Coedd. "Tell me, what study brings you to the grove and to Garrick? What, if I may ask, is Coedd to you? And what, to your understanding, are you to it?" The Queen's answer to Garrick was a foregone conclusion, but she had a duty to her people. A duty to protect, a duty to prepare, and a duty to witness. [MAKING THE ASSUMPTION THAT THIS IS BETWEEN THE DAWN OPENING OF BEES AND THE DUSK StarTC REVEAL] Constance, who is conveniently around for dramatic irony, smiles at hearing that. There would be far more fireworks tonight. BEES has not been a secret project, though its full scale is only made truly public at this event. The Raum Nymph would be appraised of the opportunity, should she or any Queens wish to conduct (or have the sway to have conducted) any projects in any of the three divisions. After all, there's surely much to learn in advance of the homecoming. Her Arkhival Majesty, Queen Constance of Comment the First, is in her full diplomatic readiness with the Caipe Ushere delegates. After making sure to personally greet them, she spends a fair portionDepending on how many other Super Official delegations come by. Constance doesn't ignore, say, a squad of Reserve scientists or anything, but she's a State official working to secure State relations of her time accompanying them and answering their questions. After all, despite the pleasant relations they've enjoyed so far, at the end of the day, there has not been a truly intimate partnership between the Arkhive and its Erebuus...ian friends. "In truth, the story of BEES began with our expedition to the crater. I trust you have access to our reports, which were full of fascinating and ultimately entirely unactionably corrupted data. We had reached our limits. Now, the Arkhive has always had a scientific wing, and we've built laboratories and had fruitful dialogues and fellowships at the University of Burtzlund, but at the end of the day, Coastaphornia could not forever be the cornerstone of our enterprise and the Vault could not accommodate large-scale research in a truly modern setting. Therefore, it was decided, we would build a Scientarium of our own. "What transformed this plan from a mere 'modern facility' to the current tripartite international complex was a confluence of two streams of current event. You are no doubt aware that the Arkhive has the honor of being the heart of Coedd study in Tekhum, and our researchers and clergy have long had questions about Coedd's aquatic presence. As it stands, there has been no large-scale research done on the largest lifeform on the planet--in the system--in the largest environment on that planet. If Coedd proves to be as pluripresent in the seas as on land, it may be able to discover through biology what we failed to glean through technology. Coedd willing, of course. "At the same time, we were performing certain low-G research on bees meant for Mekhala, and so the expansion of our geostationary research satellite into BEES in Spaaaaaaaace! just made sense." Constance asks an attendant to have some files sent to the delegation, and soon has waxpaper versions to hand over as well. 8. (I love you) Douglas pulls at the straps of his overalls and exhales, long and slow, through his teeth, thinking thoughts both uffish and melancholic. "I s'pose that's a matter of perspective, Ma'am, if ya like. I reckon it ain't gonna be the easiest thing to change some things--most things, really--and that plenty of folks won't thank ya if ya try. Might fix things, might spark an explosion. But that don't mean things don't bear changing, if yer following my vein. On the other hand, it ain't easy to live in a way and a world that don't measure up to what it could be. That's a slow death right there, like being trapped in a collapsed shaft. But it do mean that nothin' and on one gets upset." He reaches up to his pins and turns one to look at it himself. I WAS THERE FOR THE WILDLY VIOLENT AND ULTIMATELY UNSUCCESSFUL MINERS' RIOTS AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS COOL PIN AND ALSO PHYSICAL AND MENTAL TRAUMA. "It's real hard to regret tryin', though."
  9. Diggory Douglas the five hundred fifty-second and thirty three hundredths, arrives clad in his dress overalls and dress mining helmet with a dress little light thing on the front. In light of the occasion, he has put on all of his best buttons to decorate the overshoulder straps, from ASK ME ABOUT THE UNION to BRO, JUST ONE MORE MINING EXPEDITION, BRO to MY OTHER ROCK IS ALSO GRANITE to WE'RE HERE, WE'RE QUEER, WE WILL NEVER FORGET THE GREAT TUNNEL COLLAPSE OF '94. He has the appreciable hacking of someone with a pulmonary illness, but makes sure to politely keep his phlegm confined to a handkerchief black with coal dust. Being from Sansar, Dig is unused to low-G foreigners and is a bit standoffish with them, but as soon as he spots the Mayor, he makes his way over to her. She looks like a good, old-fashioned human. "So! She's sure a good rock, I'll tell you what. Whaddaya reckon she's made of? I'm not sure I ever got sent any analysis." He scans with a critical eye. "Yup, she's a beaut, but I can tell ya one thing. It ain't of this world. Or, I guess you might not have that saying here. Er. It ain't of that world, now is it? Can't say I'm not impressed, but I've always been more of a granite man. D'you get granite out here? Plutonic rock, hardy stuff. We've got a fair amount of it back on Coedd. 'Pends on whatcher building, a course, but it's hard to go wrong with granite. She'll steer you steady." He looks at the asteroid again and offers a final judgement. "Yessiree."

  12. 🐝A.P.I.S. Presents🐝 The Third Hexenniel Conference for the Liberation of Knowledge and Fostering of Growth in Sansar The Grand Opening of BEES Guests arrive at the Arkhive as per usual and are all given rooms, rest, and repast in the vault of the Hive itself. While there is a formal aspect to all interaction, a carefully observed guest rite, this is not the main event and it is not treated as such. Should anyone wish to explore the Arkhive Æternal or the neighboring Console Prisca Museum of Interplanetary Ability, they are free to do so. Outside of rank absurdity, all requests are met and all gifts are freely* given. But that's just preparation for the big event. Transport begins before dawn on the day of the opening. Normally, a pre-daybreak beginning would be something of a burden on visitors, but given the intercontinental and interplanetary nature of the event, what is time even, y'know? One by one, delegates are invited onto the yacht Malizia III and sailed around the island. Now, did the Arkhival leadership specifically plot the event so that the guests, sailing west around the island, would first come upon the new building just as the first brushes of dawn painted the sky with brilliant shades bruise black, blood red, pale desert rose, and several other colors like those? Obviously. That's how this works. Woe! Illustration be upon ye! In the crystalline arctic waters of the coastal Arkhive, a series of perfect white buildings form the entry to a complex. Built into the sea itself, stairs form a dock that accommodates tide, leading to a walkway towards a great metal dome of interlocking hexagons, almost iridescent under the nascent day. Before the dome, before the buildings, there floats a hexagonal platform of beeswax, on which waits Her Arkhival Majesty, Queen Constance of Comment the First herself. She speaks to the nearing ship. "Welcome, friends and visitors, guests and delegates, scientists and scholars! It is my supreme privilege to welcome you to the public opening of the Arkhive's newest construction: BEES! A first-of-its-kind facility, BEES is a research center in three parts. What is visible here forms the terranean BEES, equipped with ample supplies and containing myriad clean rooms, beehives, and enormous computers that slowly spit out a little strip of paper that you can look at and say "By Jove...this changes everything!"--everything science requires! "Below us, the BEES Aquatic Division operates on a scale similar to what you see here, but underwater. Shielded from background radiation, with immediate access to the sea, and equipped with enormous plate glass windows so that scientists can look through them a second too late to see the prehistoric megashark that's about to crash through, our Aquatic Division enables research impossible on the surface. "Finally, our third division." Constance points up at the peach-rose black sky. "BEES in Spaaaaaaaace! After having constructed a geostationary satellite for the purpose of acclimating bees to Mekhalan environments, we have now created a geostationary complex for the purpose of acclimating BEES to, well, Mekhalan environments. Any research requiring consistent low-gravity environments, exposure to the frankly concerning levels of cosmic radiation, or the risk of hearing your colleague returning from a spacewalk only to remember that they left a week ago and you should be alone oh no oh no what is that thing? can be conducted there." A banner unfurls behind her, hung from hovering drones, reading Burtzland Economic Endowment Scientarium (which explains so much about what she was actually saying). "Welcome, to BEES." Tours of the labs are available. There's room for visiting scholars to come, with financial support from the Hive, so long as all research is made public. You can see one room on ground level where a pod of Durats is examining a Stage Tree crossection in a room separated with a sterile chemical shower nonsense thing I don't do science. They stack on each other comically as they observe a fungal growth on the tree, which pops comically and makes them tumble comically down in a comical shower of comic spores. It's very funny. In the Aquatic Division, scientists are examining a strange abyssal tube worm that spits polyps like fog. They suggest there's a sort of hive intelligence about them, but it's a reference so it won't be investigated further. BEES in Spaaaaaaaace! currently has a squad trying to find a clause in the contract that suggests Snimt Glek's appropriation of the room for research into Long-Term Return to Low Gravity Environments In Mekhalan Natives, an obvious grab at a nicer apartment, violates terms and can be cancelled. *Visitors to the local mediocre cafe-chain-slash-microstate enjoy no such generosity while there. The Arkhive Æternal has no authority over Milk & Honey. Opportunities: Mingle, chat, do diplomacy stuff. The Arkhive specifically welcomes use of itself as a forum. 15. GUYINEBER: "You are far too kind, but I'm afraid I'm weaning off of foods. I expect I am entering the final decade of my rule, if it's not yet begun." CLAGATH: "We could not make the attempt at our strange ways without the indulgence and support of those powers who tolerate and shelter us. We hope only that we provide a service worthy of what we are given." And then to the Aonach. "Ah. Input. Then I will thank you for your courtesy as well. The Earl is a man of incisive but...singular thoughts and generous loquaciousness." "There is no universal character shared amongst all of our citizenry, and to assign one would be crass stereotype. However, there are phenomena which repeat themselves often enough to be of note. Most relevant here is that of scholarly enthusiasm bleeding into daily life. If a man studies the shades between white and black long enough, it stops being work and becomes his entire being. He may become the very Earl of Grey, such is his dedicationHis name was already like that tho. Nominative determinism (and puns) are extremely common among Arkhivists.. Among our religious scholars, this bleed of study into daily life means that we often produce small communities of the pious wherever a new religion is studied. This was how Coedd originally took root. Indeed, the extent of Coedd in the Arkhive likely owes itself as much to the breadth of study coupled with ease of access as it does to any natural inclination on the parts of the researchers. If the Imperial Cult were more available to study in the Arkhive, I have no doubt adherents would be generated from many of the researchers--and this with my blessing, so long as it is not forced upon anyone." "Have you not heard reports from Eilif Dhaoine's wars? Priests bleed, it is certainly true, but the followers of Coedd have seen the flora contribute meaningfully to the battle. Priests bleed, yes, but so far the goddess has not. On the field of battle, Coedd is able, and that's a relatively unique divine interaction. Even military security is difficult to keep when the foliage sends out runners to undermine. Have you considered this aspect of religion's import in your wars?" "The Arkhive is always open to you. I will be glad to welcome you in any season and fortune." "The Arkhive has no intention to recall him as of yet. Should he tire of his work--of which he has yet given no indication--he will be invited to return, though if you allow it, he would also be free to settle with you in Mekhala. We may recall the position, but the man is free. If you suggest he may be less able than at arrival, we would gladly send a supporting scholar to prop him up and perhaps ease a suggestion of retirement." She allows room for that suggestion to be made. "While I have you, I would like to offer a visiting team of scholars who have been somewhat taken with descriptions of your society. They have some interesting ideas on adapting versions of our technologies on Coedd to negligible-gravity versions. They would be sent on a three-year mission with the hope of refining our science--and perhaps with some of your people, this could be mutually productive." [THIS IS JUST IC GIVING YOU TECHS] Constance smiles at the Bloodlord. This guy gets it.
