The footsteps pause. From your hiding place, pressed against the base of the rocky wall, you can see a dark, stout shape surveying the small canyon. It grumbles quietly to itself and says something in dwarvish before the sound of the steps retreat away from the opening and away from the cold winds.

The axe beak plods away to the east and is soon out of sight.

Prevailing light outside is Dim, so for creatures with Darkvision it's treated as Bright (w/in Darkvision range). Those without Darkvision (and beyond Darkvision range for those that do) have disadvantage on Perception checks (and a -5 to Passive Perception).
